Yay! My dad arrived to Dubai, United Arab Emirates a couple of days ago to start his new great job as the international oil parts salesman of the middle east! This is a great thing for him because like for 30 years he had been in the oil field industry, he had done international work for Central america and such but left the oil field when the crash happened in the late 90's. Just a year ago he was an assistant manager at a home depot, and now he's doing what he does best, making a crud load of money just by being a rough neck! =D!
I'm going to go to Dubai next summer on Vacation, so I'm totally stoked about it.

What's your daddy do?!

(btw, my entire family is oil field related and have been since the day I was born, so any anti-oil or "He's only over there for the oil" comments I will personally call out and correct you. )

[EDIT] I wanna see this~

Dude! Like when I was 4, we moved to this town who was basically taken over by the oil field because it was ripe for the oil reaping and my dad's told me that when we would go shopping that there would be people who would refuse to check us out if he was wearing his work clothes, so we'd have to go to another checkout person for help. People can be viscious! Then when I lived back in Texas, people were causing problems and stealing the trailers to carry the rig parts in attempts to stop rigs from going up, and this was like 4 months ago!

speaking of playing with oil, my daddy and I used to love to play this little game called Oil Baron that came on a cd full of shareware/freeware games. I would always make extra characters that I said we could use to help us both out and invariably make that character only help me out 8) I can persuade my daddy to many things!

My daddy fixes people's heaters and air conditioners. Therefore he provides a very great service, especially in January and especially in July and August.

My old man used to be in the oil business. He worked in finance for Conoco. Now he's a Vice President of Finance at Exelon, a power (as in electricity) company created by the merger of Commonwealth Edison and the Philadelphia Energy Company (PECO).

xD

Yeah my dad's going to be making 6 figures over there which would put him in the upper class society here, over there he's only middle class because the people there make close to the 7 figure mark.
In terms of the money I made as a retail sales person I'd be dirty scum that lived off the streets begging for money, and people like my sister who get paid by the government and live pretty well are low class people in Dubai terms.

I've never actually asked him about that, but in my own terms, everythings going to end up scarce when it comes to being a natural resource that takes a damn long time to remake, but like the oil pockets shift, which is why the rigs end up shifting as well. Like in Kansas for example, you go down one of the main high ways and there are -many- -MANY- random little oil pumps, but very few actual tanks to hold the oil, because not all of them are able to hit an oil pocket. Granted we do grab a hell of alot of oil, but due to the fact that the pockets shift at a very sporatic pace, we'll most likely be able to find another source of energy before we hit -every- oil pocket. There's been many a time that oils been found by accident of the people setting the rigs up, say they put the drill like 15 feet over from where the cordinates said to be, they hit oil and they're like "wtf" because the only reason they found it was 'cause they screwed up!

Moral is, the chances of us sucking up -every- single bit of oil before we instate a new form of energy is pretty rare, due to the fact the pockets move and regardless if there is a science to find the oil, there is -no- --exact-- science.

Dead being. (not kidding, my dad died when I was like 3) before that he started off as a mechanic in the merchant navy where he fixed anything from bikes to tanks, he left there and went in to the mechanic business for himself, owned his own garage then he went in to managing offliscences untill he died in 88 of heart disease.

My dad owns a mechanics shop (...forgot what it's called, that place you go to get your car fixed...). My grandfather (mom's side) has a more interesting job though - he owns a seafood exporting company, so he and my grandmother can get giant lobsters and shrimp whenever they want
