View Full Version : Shameitude

So a user of livejournal got multiple journals deleted because they posted a sexually explicit picture of Harry Potter and Severus Snape.

The LJ HP community has got kinda up in arms about this, posting various cat macros and multiple insults, and deriding LJ much (possibly some suppressed anger from a similar incident a few months ago)

Then some people posted more cat macros making fun of the first people.

So whose actions do you think are the most shameful in this scenario:

Livejournal (owned by blog company SixApart) with vague rules they were enforcing;
the Fandom (made up of a lot of people and owned by no one!) with their threats of ending their paid accounts (But not an outright boycott, hmm?) and frantic complaints;
the scavengers taking advantage of a good brawl when they see one and making the matter more confunded.

(poll forthcoming)

Frankly, there are some good cat macros I found while perusing the comments on the last lj news post (I would link it, but some people found it appropriate to repost the image the original user was banned for, and obviously it would be not appropriate for EoFF postage!), so I can't say the third group is too shameful.

In fact, with the behavior of second group, the third group can hardly be blamed!

I reckon lj/sixapart is within their rights, but maybe they should state them explicitly (kinda how the image showed various parts of the anatomy explicity!).

Anyways, it's kinda scary to think that a bunch of harry potter fanatics think they could bring down a whole corporation.

(Any cat macros posted in this thread will be deleted, and that's as explicit as I can state this)

The LJ owers are entitled to do as they wish as it is their site. Sort of like we are entitled to do as we wish here with our bannings even though we end up getting many complaints from the members for our actions. Same thing with LJ as it is not a democracy.

Unless a site specifically allows explicit anatomy images, it's pretty much understood (I would think) that they should not be posted.

Oh no, more Livejournal related drama, whatever will we do? I know, let us protest at this by placing the phrase 'lolita' and 'paedophilia' in our interests field in our profiles, or post an entry within our Livejournal displaying disgust at sixapart. While we're at it, let us make fun of some Harry Potter fans and trolls. Oh and don't forget the furries, no internet drama is complete without furries.

On a more serious note, the fact that something like this has happened on LiveJournal doesn't surprise me. With any large community based site like that your bound to have your 'deviants' and finding those people is quite difficult. In fact people can go un-noticed on these sites indefinatly, however usually on these sites when the owners do a large purge alot of 'innocent' users get harmed at the same time as tracking down individuals in such a mass is difficult, hence the use of automated scripts.

So in conclusion, cram it rubah :p

There's not really any restrictions to LiveJournal and people of a variety of ages have one. Posting Harry and Snape doing the kazoo-kazoo is generally not good. I say the people that put it up and the group that got huffy over the consequences have shameitude.

Ugh, this all made me picture Alan Rickman naked.

Oh noes. Those rabid HP fans. Shoot them.

(I always blame the HP fanatics. They brought the world male pregnancy fanfiction.)

The company will always be in the right if the issue is Harry Potter porn. Whoever posted that should be shot.

Honestly, who would want to see fictional characters having sex? Drawings none-the-less.

Anybody who has anything to do with cat macros deserves to be shot in the face and raped by a pack of angry mountain gorillas.

Also, cat macros don't win wars.

LOL! Harry and Snape is the tamest of the shipping stories. They should see the Buckbeak / Dumbledore pics!

For internet drama, it had to be LJ.

Scary and amusing.

I think that the fandom have basically overreacted. At the end of the day, as Leeza said, unless it's explicitly stated that you can post that kinda thing you're best assuming you can't anyway. Even if it was, it's perfectly within LiveJournal's rights to do whatever they please with their website. The whole cancelling of paid account thing does make me laugh a bit, because it just shows how petty the whole thing is. If they were that desperate to prove a point, they'd stop using the site entirely. While they may cost LiveJournal a couple of quid, it's relatively worthless in the grand scheme of things.

Actually, forget that. I think the third group deserve to be the most ashamed of themselves. I mean, good God, cat macros are boring as hell now.

There are too many weird pairings that people make up. There are SO many weird "coupling" videos on about every character imaginable on youtube. :eep:
