What would be the easiest way of tricking money out of someone on the internet?

Of course, this question is entirely hypothetical, or I'm asking for a friend of mine, whichever sounds more believable.

Telling them you are the ghost of their late wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend and they need money to buy stuff in heaven.

That worked for me >D

Ok not really.

Set up a fake online store, and tell people they have to send in a picture of their credit card.

Pretend to be a girl, seduce a guy with e-boobs, cyber sex, whatever. Wheedle credit card info from him and ta da!

It's a fairly common thing you'll hear from FFXI where someone gave their in-game girlfriend/boyfriend account info and that person went and sold all their gear and their character and then locked them out of the account.

Sad.

It's best to set up a phony stand and do this kind of thing on the street. Some people can be easily persuaded into giving their details

Just waiting for someone to actually scan their credit card, you know, one of those people who rebel against everything. FIGHT THE POWER, LET US HAVE YOUR MONEY.

hmm the best way I can think of? the charity scam or set yourself up as an mp3/divx distributer site (illegal files) some of those charge or just grab a couple of slutty girls who are up for a laugh get them to strip and have sex with each other/sex toys and then sell the resulting images on the net as porn. I happen to know some girls who would do that. Or become a financial dominatrix.

I assume that it would be easy enough. Getting away with it however. That is the task.

Hello I am PG of the Republic of Uzbekistan. I am held as a prisoner in their country, and they will soon strip my bank account of my funds. I need you and your american bank account to hold my money until I can arrange an escape in the next month or so. At that point I will contact you once more in order to arrange for the funds back. For your involvement I shall give you a sizeable amount for your time and resources. Please reply back with your account information and I shall update you with further instructions.

Smurf the internet. The easiest way to do it is by phone. Look up someone in the phone book. We'll call her Betty Smith. You call her up and say the following:

"May I speak to Betty Smith, please?"
"This is Betty."
"Ms. Smith, I'm sorry but we have to swear out a warrant for your arrest."
"Why?"
"It seems you haven't reported for jury duty."
"I never got a letter."
"Hold on. Let me check something. [brief silence] You're Betty Smith?"
"Yes."
"Let me check your social security number. Can you give that to me?"
<betty gives="" ssn="">[Betty gives SSN]
[Brief silence]"Oh. I'm sorry, Ma'am. It seems you're fine. We called the wrong Betty Smith. Don't worry about it. You have a great day."

Now, you have her name, her address, her phone number, and her social security number. That's enough to get a credit card in her name. Then you just go shopping until she realizes she's in outrageous debt and tries to figure out how it happened.</betty>

Mistaking Levia for a girl is a common mistake though.

Yeah, well I chose the name Betty Smith because, not only is it a name many people can have, but it sounds like the name of one of the naïve little old ladies. Besides, when you use the card, you can always say you're her husband or you can just use it online. If you're really afraid you'll get caught because you're not a woman, call a man. Naiveté comes in both genders.

I think the most memorable thing I've seen is when we were on holiday in france, on a subway a supposedly "Homeless" man came around and gave everyone cards with french and english writing on them saying he was homeless, had no job and 2 kids to support. The cards were made on a computer, how could he afford that? About a minute later he came and recollected them and took money from people who gave some.

Does it have to be an e-scam? Why not just have a few beers with them and steal their wallet? :p
