Speaking of Star Ocean, I still haven't finished SO3...

How do they plan on continuing the series after that absolutely horrible the whole world is a computer program and you're a virus plot twist? How do the expect a single player to take the next game's story seriously?

because it makes no difference if there is a dimension over you. Would you think your life would be less worth if you found out you were a program?

Here is some more info
RPGamer - News Bulletin - First Star Ocean 4 Details Revealed (http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-2007/090507g.html)
New details have been released for Star Ocean 4, and it seems, so far, as if Square-Enix and tri-Ace are trying to find a delicate balance between old and new.
It has been announced that SO4 will be released for only one platform, but exactly which one remains unknown.
This game will live up to its title more than past games in the series by allowing the player to pilot a spaceship and travel to different worlds.
The story is finished and will have a slightly different setting than Star Ocean 3 but it will not be so different that characters from past games will not be able to return.
There will be more than just a few planets in the galaxy this time around.
The heroine's name will be Reimi and the hero's name will be Edge Maverick.
You will be able to have five members in your party (including you, the player) and the battle system will not be the same as the one featured in SO3.
Private Actions will be back.
More details will be revealed soon after the release of Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution, the remakes of Star Oceans 1 & 2.
Ouch!

I've never picked up any Star Ocean games before, but I've always been interested. I'm assuming it's still the kind of series I can just pick up anywhere?

You can,but you'll get more of the references if you start with them chronologically.

Ooh, a different system than Star Ocean 3's. I'm very interested to know how they'll be improving the battle system even further, and very excited about five characters in battle at once!
And, PAs didn't really go away in SO3, they were just automatic and not triggered outside of a town by the player. I assume this means they'll be going back to activating the PAs outside of towns, which is cool.
The plot twist in SO3 ruined it for me, but I won't let it get to me in SO4.

If you think like that, you missed the entire point. Which was that just as Descartes said, "I think, therefore I am". The game was saying, basically, in another fifty years if we can make videogames so powerful that the AI therein is genuinely intelligent and thinking, what have we done? Can we just have shmups in a situation like that? Is turning off your game murder? And so forth. It worries me how many people who one would think would consider games as more than 'just games' in fact go directly to "it's just a game" when they find out this plot twist and somehow the whole thing is supposed to have lost meaning.
And anyway, even if you didn't like 3, their own conciousness created a universe once the thing was turned off, so their universe is now real and you don't need to worry :monster:

Whatever, I still think the plot of SO3 was poorly executed either way. Really the SO series main strength is it's battle systems/uber battles, not it's plotlines.

Well, now I can't come in here and troll the latest Star Ocean thread because it's been done. Thanks a lot, guys. :mad2:
All I'm left with saying is End of Time didn't float my boat much, but I enjoyed it just enough to show interest in another entry and follow its development.
I actually was perfectly fine with the story and characters of 3, though. I've seen so many animes I think my suspension of disbelief has become too powerful.
i cant wait for SO4 i only played SO3 and i loved it. i can see why so many people would not like the plot twist in it but to me it was very interesting and who knows maybe even possible why not?

Ah now, I never said it was a particularly well-executed story ;) And I do agree that the gameplay tends to beat the stories out, although they've all got their plot moments as well.

Lucky for me then that 1 and 2 are getting remakes, eh?

SO3 is a great game and I think it was a clever plot twist. And the best part of the game was that really cool character who starts off as a bad guy, whats his name again....? Oh yeah, Albel.
I like the part in the one rabbit's house in the Volcano.
Albel: "I told you it was a waste of time coming here."
Nel: "I don't remember you saying that..."
Albel: "Neither do I."
BADASS.
