For example, would you call your kid Squall, Vaan, Rinoa, Aerith, or god help us all, Zell!?

Me personally, no.

Maybe something less bizarre i.e. Cloud or Lulu.

Maybe Zack, and the other less eccentric names, but Cecil would probably be a great candidate; what a lovely name.

I might consider naming one of my kids after one of the names in the games..... that is, if I wanted kids!

I always thought Raine was a cute name.

I'd name them Tidus, Lulu, Yuna, Wakka, Rikku, Auron, and Blue Mage. Yes, then one can develop many complexes and watching them age will be entertaining instead of annoying.

09-09-2007, 02:24 AM
Of course! Well, as much as I love Tidus, I would never name my kid that. It sounds silly in real life.

Most likely I'd name my kid Roxas. That's an awesome name!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned baby Sephiroth yet.

If I only had to choose between FF names, I might choose Terra or Zack. I think thought I if I was gonna name my kid after a game character it would probably be Laharl or Flonne or Rozaline or someone awesome like that.

Probally because everybody would know that you got it from a video game.

Yeah, I'm generally with everyone saying 'only the normal names' (except the people who then said Cloud or Terra). Naming your child something that can easily be identified by popular culture kind of makes you a sadistic asshole.

Pishaw! You guys don't know what your missing out on. Naming your kid Ifrit would be awesome. "Hey Ifrit get you butt in here!" Then me and my wife and friends will laugh.

Or Megaman...

Well, I think FF girls have nice names ^^ Like, Lenna, Rydia, Tina (aka Terra)

Perhaps I would name my daughter after one of them, if I have one, or if I won't prefer the name Luscia XD

But if I have a son, nope, no FF names. Except for maybe Cid. XD

There was a member at Fool's Gold who I remember being rather adamant about naming a child after Rydia for FFIV which I always thought was quite something. I can think of one or two literary characters whose names I might like to use as a middle name or something, but I don't feel particularly motivated to use a computer game character.

Kids? No! Pets? Maybe.. names like Lulu or something could be cute for a cat or dog.

No.

And if I (God forbid!) had children, you'd all be more worried the impending apocalypse that would result, so what I actually named the kid would be the least of anyone's concern.

I wouldn't go for the "weird" names like Cloud, Squall, Aerith, etc. But "normal" names like Sara, Tina, Zack, Vincent... No objection here.

Being someone who has a "weird" name (or rather, a name which is considered weird here as it is supposedly a masculine name), I wouldn't want my kids to be teased constantly like I was when growing up.

I want to name my daughter Reina (Lenna from FFV's 'American' name), but it's not cos I have any affiliation with the character, I just like the name very much and it's listed in a baby names book so it's okay! Yeah I wouldn't want to send my kid off to school with a name like Squall or something, poor thing. I named my cat Aeris...and one of my hamsters Selphie (I was 12, okay).
I remember telling someone my name was Tifa (I had just started playing FF7 at the time, I was very young and silly). They cracked up laughing and said "that's a weird name!!" Needless to say I never used FF aliases on holiday again.

Guy - Possibly
Leon- Yes
Cecil - No
Kain - Yes
Edward - Yes
Cid - No. Sydney maybe, but not Cid.
Rosa - Not likely
Edge - Well if I happened to name my son "Edward" and make "Gerald" his middle name, I might take a shot at seeing if the nickname "Edge" would catch on...
Rydia - No, though I do believe "Lydia" is a name, which is a possibility
Palom/Porom - No
Butz/Bartz - No. Variations on "Bart" maybe, such as "Bartholomew" or "Bartek" (which is Polish)
Lenna/Reina - Possibly Reina, or Rena

Terra - Possibly
Locke - Possibly

Quistis - No!
Zell - No
Seifer - No

Ultimecia - Only if Future Esthar were the biological father to my wife who had cheated on me and he died before the birth and if I were subsequently nominated the unborn child's legal guardian

Garnet - No
Vivi - No; wouldn't even name a daughter "Vivien" either
Freya - Um... maybe

I would like to use one but it would be a bit weird to have thatsort of reasoning. I have a strange name so I don't want to cause bullying and stuff but having real common names sucks.
I did convince a couple of people in my year that my name is Ricard/Richard. It was good.

If I ever ran across someone who was named something very obviously FF-ish like Sephiroth or Wakka, I would laugh in their face. No joke, I'd point and laugh.

The only FF name I kinda sorta like is Terra, but even then I'm pretty much set on the names I want for my kids and none of them include FF names.

I think my kids would like to be named for themselves, rather than fictional characters. It's different if you name them after, say, Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, but I'm named mainly for relatives and I hate it.

I'm never having kids, but if I ever had a daughter.... I wouldn't mind naming her Selphie. I think it's a cute name.

Other then that I don't think I would name a kid after a video game character.

I like Rinoa, it just doesn't flow good with other girl names I like xD

Maria - Kinda plain :p
Guy - Good old-fashioned name
Leon- Doesn't really suit me, but it's acceptable xD
Cecil - Old-fashioned
Kain - Has some bad connotations :}
Edward - Doesn't suit me
Cid - Doesn't suit me
Rosa - Too plain xD
Rydia - Hey sure
Lenna/Reina - I like Lenna
Faris - It depends if ferris wheels are still around by then.
Terra - I'd spell it Tara
Edgar - Edgar is awesome as poop but the name is kinda old fashioned xD it makes me think of dweeby little boys.
Gogo - Adlai is a good solid name.
Mog - It might be a good nickname :p
Tifa - It'd be a cute nickname for a Tiffany
Nanaki - The whole foreign sounding names thing goes out the window when you aren't actually foreign.
Aeris/Aerith - It just doesn't sound as pretty as it looks
Cait Sith - The gaelic would laugh at me :(
Sephiroth - hasn't that been done?
Riona - Yes:}
Zidane - No soccer players plz
Garnet - No nouns plz
Auron - could you imagine a little boy named auron? xD
Lulu - kinda old fashioned in the 'c'mere little slave girl' way.
Ashe - no nouns PLZ.
Fran - I've always hated that name xD
Balthier - too regal :}

Yes, I'd DEFINITELY call my first son Black Mage and my first daughter White Mage.:rolleyes2

Firion- HA! No.
Maria - I've always rather liked that name, so maybe
Guy - No
Leon- That's my dad's name, so no
Hilda- Perhaps, I doubt it though
Cecil - Probably not, as cute as it is
Rosa- I LOVE that name, so quite possibly I would name a daughter that, but I hate the character
Kain - I quite like it, but no
Rydia- I like it, but no (maybe "Lydia", though)
Edward - Nope
Cid - Nah, reminds me of that problem child from Toy Story
Porom/Palom- No and no
Tellah- Hah! No
Yang- not unless I name another child Yin
Edge- Nope
Lenna/Reina - Reina's the better name of those two, so maybe
Faris - No
Bartz- Hell no
Cara/Krile- Neither of those two I really like
Galuf- no
Terra - yes, I love that name
Edgar - No
Gogo -No

Ah, I'll do more later.

Nope, I wouldn't do it. If I was forced to do it, though, I guess Sara (FFs I, III), Maria (FFs II, VI), Jessie (FFVII), Tina (FFVI) and Vincent (FFVII) could do. Maybe Lenna (FFV) and Rosa (FFIV) too.

Oh, and naming your child Sephiroth isn't as bad as naming him Exdeath or X-Death. :p
