Once, me and my dad were bike riding, and we passed under this telephone pole, and my dad saw this huge eagle in a giant nest on the top of it. He motioned up at it, and when I saw it I said, without thinking, "Holy :skull::skull::skull::skull:, that's a big smurfing bird!"

He just sped up so that he was next to me and said "That's a big WHAT?" with this big, round smile on his face, laughing.

So, have you ever cussed around your parents? How'd they react?

Yes, all the time. It's no big deal. I don't see whats so wrong with it. My whole family cuss around one another. I think it's funny :jess:
But in saying that, I don't like swearing and keep it to funny ocassions and never use it out in public. I'm the good sort ;)

Yes, but not intentionally. And it's usually me muttering curse words under my breath, forgetting that my parents are in the room. I don't think I've ever cursed directly at the before. Maybe when I was really young and didn't know what I was saying. I didn't know what the F-word meant for a really long time. But I acquired that word at a very young age (by my slightly older brother who also didn't know what it meant) so that's no wonder.

i still feel weird about it, and i'm 25. but they don't care, it's mostly a personal hang up i guess...but when i was a kid it was strictly forbidden, which is why i assume i'm so vexed by it now.

I generally don't like swearing in front of my parents. My brothers, however, do swear in front of them like it's no big deal. I don't know, I just find it odd that I'm the only one who feels it's awkward to swear in the presence of your parents. Maybe behind their backs under my breathe, but definitely not in their face.

I did once :( they were really mad at me, because according to them girls can't swear :(

But I swear a lot when I'm really mad!:(

Yeah, sure.. Cursing is pretty normal around here. I don't think I know someone who don't curse, and haven't done it around their parents.

i do have a dirty mouth, but out of sheer respect with my parents I tend to avoid cussing around them unless it's truly an accident, even so they usually don't care or might laugh, :skull::skull::skull::skull: man I'm 20 so I can say whatever the flyin' fuck I want :)

I use curse words as adjectives, adverbs, verbs, and nouns so you can imagine.

I've been doing it since I was like 12, but got in less and less trouble for it until I got old enough where it didn't matter anymore. I have a pretty foul mouth so they just sort of got used to it :}

I rarely feel the need to use foul words around my parents, but sometimes I use the f-word to emphasize my adjectives. And perhaps sometimes when losing a game or making food.

I don't swear when speaking to my parents, but I have no problems swearing while around them.

What's this thread about again? Oh yeah -- where did the word smurf come from? Lemme check the wiki.

They don't mind if it's used appropriately. You example would be fine. But if I just went around going "OMFG THIS FUCKING FUCKER FUCKED A FUCKING FUCKEE AND THEY SHAT ON A FUCKING BADGER FUCKING DICKSTAINED WANKER" then they tell me I'm being a dickhead.

I can curse in front of my parents. My dad doesn't really mind, but my mum gets annoyed if I swear too much.

Do I swear around them? Occasionally. Hell! I have even given them the finger one time. My Dad got a bit mad and said that was very rude to which I replied "That is the point." I think he got the message that I was trying to be mean towards him so he just kind of dropped that one.

Sometimes no other word can accurately express what you want to say and with the force you want to say it :P We are all adults so it really isn't a problem.

My parents are conservative Christians, so of course I utter obscenities and curse words in their presence.

I observe certain limits around my mother. Although I end up using profanity in her presence, it's only under certain circumstances. Sometimes she'll chastise me a little bit, but it's usually half-hearted.

I say anything and everything in front of my old man, especially when we're at the sports bar. xD

Absolutely I swear around my parents, and have done since I was a badass rebellious teenager. They just say "Don't use that kind of language please", but eh, it's not really a big deal to them. I wouldn't in front of my grandparents though.

I swear in front of my parents all the time. I do not swear at people, mostly just at things or at myself. They usually complain about my language yet they swear as well. I have cursed at my parents before but only when they really pissed me off.

The only time I ever used foul language in front of higher generations of family was when I told a joke about fish poop (bass turds).

I do. But I'm old enough where they can't really say anything about it, and they know I'm not swearing alot. So they don't care.

We're all a big happy swearing family. We generally don't mind each other's language if it's used tastefully to make a point. There isn't excessive use of swearing and it's never used in an insulting way. I don't see any problems with a family occasionally swearing if all the members are over a certain age, at which point they can use proper judgment for the use of such words.
