ok i have a question. this may seem very stupid and childish, but could some one give me the answer?? i have been wondering about this for a long time:

i have ff8 the PC version. and i have bought a sound card as well. but i can not hear voice of the "ppl" in the game-such as squall, rinoa or the others speaking..
i can hear the background music or the fighting sounds or whatever, but not the voice of a single soul-character!!

is it like this for everybody, or is it just me?? am i not doing something right, or we aren't supposed to hear them speak?? and just read the lines?

The first final fantasy where you can actually hear the characters talking is Final Fantasy X. All the others before that you have to read the text...

Sad but true, ff8 has no voice acting. You could always listen to fan voice overs, such as the ones here Wing Heart Productions (http://wingheart.rinoa.nu/ff8-downloads.html)

The only words you hear in the whole game are those in the song eyes on me.
I think if they had voice acting the game would be about 2 disks longer

Oh dear. That's really sad. The acting's not very good either.

What about Rinoa's heavy breath in space? That totally counts as voice acting. That voice actor was talented and deserves some cookies.

Hate to burst your bubble, Lunar, but I'm pretty sure Rinoa's heavy breathing was purely synthesized. You want to give your cookies to a computer? I'd totally take them instead. I doubt the computer wants them.

i did a project on speech synthesis using LPC coding..

to synthesise breathing, you just use white noise with maybe a bandpass filter and different amplitudes..

probably the easiest thing to synthesise, so it takes little to no coding

Such a shame that theres no voices. I'll bet Selphie has the sexiest voice in the whole galaxy.
