I was lurking for about a couple of weeks since I joined but I have automatic login so I never lurk anymore.

Something in the range of five years before joining. I was much more impressed with FFInsider until they removed half of their content. Then they went to :skull::skull::skull::skull:.

I signed up the moment I viewed the forum (I actually have never seen the front site, hmmm, I should go have a look some time). I can't remember what forum I was on before hand, I think it was FF Shrine or something (this is in 2001-2002) and Shinra Online.

I think it was Eternal Fantasy (http://forums.eyesonff.com/members/%252Aeternal%2Bfantasy%252A.html) that invited me all those years back.
