View Full Version : PS3 Promotion

Hi all,

As the date for the PS3 drawing approaches, we've decided on the entry promotions and drawing format.

To enter, send a PM to ps3promo with the following information

Name: (this name will be used on the package)
Mailing Address:
Desired PS3 Package: The new PS3 SKUs starting next month will include a $599 with an 80GB HDD and a copy of Motorstorm bundled with it. The $499 SKU will have a 60GB HDD (the current high-end SKU) and no game bundled with it. (So pick the package you'd want, or specify your own of similiar value).

Please remember the contest rules. Multiple PMs and/or entries will be disqualified.

- Forum members have until Nov 1 to accumulate 500 posts or more.
- Only one entry per household.
- A random drawing will be held shortly after Nov 1. One lucky winner will receive a free PS3!
- Spamming or making a bunch of bad posts will result in disqualification.

Good luck to all!
Warren

I have a question. If we don't have 500 posts yet, but expect to have the required amount by the drawing date, do we have to wait until we have the necessary amount of posts before signing up or can we sign up now and just be disqualified later if we don't accumulate 500 posts by then?

But sweet. :choc2:

I believe that the model they're phasing out (is it the 60 gig?) still has the guts of a PS2 in it, allowing for near-perfect quality when playing old PS1 and PS2 games. The newer systems do away with that and are compatible with the older games through emulation, which isn't nearly as reliable. I think.

Is Warren avoiding the question of why someone would choose the cheaper one? I do think it's a valid question. It has been sort of answered by others, but Warren seems to be the one who knows for sure, yet he's not answering this one.

I cut this out of my PM answer to the first person who asked the question:

I questioned that at first. However, I vaguely remember something about the new 80GB PS3 losing some features and being more cheaply made. I'm sure there was a thread about it here. If you can dig that up and we can read it again, that might answer our question. Our question, being the one that both of us are thinking of, but you're the only one who asked it. I mean, if you think about it, who would take the cheaper one unless there were something wrong with the other one? That's something we, as the potential winners, should research before signing up for the contest.

The Ceej

So, yeah. I was actually thinking about looking that up. However, if Warren wants to answer before I get around to doing that...

Does it really matter? So you have a choice. Surely this is good? Also, he stated that you can find a deal to the same value so I don't see how this is anything but a win-win situation, especially as you're getting a console worth hundreds of dollars/pounds. One should not question such things!

This sounds like a reasonable request. And if this is possible, can I assume it would be possible to withhold other information until after winning? The reason I haven't entered yet is that I'm not sure which package I'd like. If I can decide this later and still enter now, then I surely will. Also, I'm all for withholding my address until after winning.

The Ceej
10-06-2007, 05:35 PM
The way I understand it, Spatvark, is that your post count must be 500 or higher by November 1st. This means your total post count. If you spam to artificially raise your post count, those posts don't count. So, I would have to assume you're eligible.

I was wondering if I can enter now and decide which PS3 package in the event I won. Or change my mind later. Why should I have to worry about right now anyway? As Ted Kennedy once said, "Let's drive off that bridge when we come to it."

But you don't have to reply to give me a confirmed receipt. Simply opening the PM results in a confirmed receipt. You'd think you'd know that being the all-powerful administrator. But what about after the contest is over? Will every non-winner have a permanent uncomfirmed receipt? That would be mildly annoying. Good thing it's not a major enough annoyance to not enter.

That was what I was concerned about.

From my own research I had heard they were phasing it out of most models, especially in Europe.

And I can't be sure A. if you've bought it yet and B. if the buyer will be from Europe

so if I'm going to select the model of generally less worth just for that hardware, I want to be sure that it's included. If you don't know, I'll just go with the other model.

When Danielle signed up she asked about this and I just told her to put down "Will discuss options if I actually win" or something like that.

Apparently there's a 40 gb version coming out...though I doubt it will be out before November...

The 40 gig version was discontinued some time ago according to the links I posted. Apparently no one wanted to buy it due to its nonexistant backward compatibility. Give me limited backward compatiblility over no backward compatibility any day.

I was certain I saw it on AOTS last week...That's what I get for listening to Kevin Pereira.

Just a confirmation, but you mean backwards compatibility with PS2 (like how the Wii can play GC games) right? I have a ps2 so I can just get either.

Uh, no, the 40 gig version wasn't discontinued months ago; it was just announced a few weeks ago.

Everybody, it's pretty easy to just check the Wikipedia page to see the differences between each version. And considering this contest lets you pick whichever you want, there's no point in freaking out about it. Just be confident that if you want a PAL console you'll be getting the short end of the stick.

As long as I've been a part of this board, I don't think I am anywhere close to 500 posts... which is kinda sad. That said, can someone tell me how to find out how many posts I do have? If I'm somewhat close maybe I'll give it a shot if I see stuff I want to talk about...

You have around 260 posts. Just go to your profile and click "View all posts by this user" and it will tell you a total.

Maybe because I've been reading so much Wheel of Time Mat's crazy luck will rub off on me.

Yes, I'm desperate enough to turn to fictional characters for luck.

The whole thing of the last few months of waiting has made this the most hyped event on EoFF if only the UK meetups could get this much attention.

He's going to be all cocky about this now. :rolleyes2

Sure it's great being with Daniel but when he dances like a five year old girl showing off his pants it's not quite as romantic as you'd think. "But the pants!" As he said just now.
