View Full Version : To Be Continued (Or An Ending You'll Never See)

Now, I don't watch a lot of commercials these days, thanks to the invention of the DVR, but recently (recently being in the last six to eight years) commercials seem to have endings that you must go online to see.

This gets on my nerves. I hate commercials in general, but if you're going to go to all the trouble of having a commercial that I'm interested in, at least have the decency to show me the ending. You and I both know full well that I'm not going online to see the ending to your mediocre commercial, so save yourself some time, money, and energy and show it to me now.

You'd think these people would have learned from Brady Games' Final Fantasy IX Strategy Guide.

Your thoughts on said commercials?

I have never seen a commercial where it leads you to the Internet to see the end. And not everyone has played or heard about Final Fantasy IX and its guide.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but the FFIX guide was stupid.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about:

A. Why do you care enough to post that you have no idea what I'm talking about?

And B. The most recent one of these commericals is nowwhat.com. I have no idea what they want from me as I've never been to nowwhat.com to see the end of the commercials, but usually in the commercials, someone gets their car or their computer stolen or something like that. So, maybe they're selling insurance. I don't know. I don't care enough to go to the website. For those who've been to the website and wish to tell me, I also barely care enough to read a post about what they're selling. I may skim it for key words at best.

There was also one I remember several years ago, where they had two cars driving behind a big truck. One was one make and one was another. The back of the truck was open and they were throwing crap out at the cars. Both cars seemed to be handling well. Then, they were going to throw cars out the back of the truck. The commercial stopped and they gave a website to go to to watch the rest. Well, if you're not going to tell me which of these cars handles better without having me go to the internet, you don't have much faith in your product, do you? I never did find out which of these cars they were advertising because I never went to the website.

They have endings that you must go online to see probably because they get extra advertising revenue from the ads on their website and thus making the total cost of airing the commercial lower. It makes sense at least.

I just never care. IT is a poor excuse for habitual marketing, really. I wonder how well it even works.

Ouch!

Well enough that they're still doing it.

I never like sex with my goets but I kept doing it. IT doesn't always have to make sense, now does it.

I think it's an excuse for bad commercial writers who dont know how to make a commercial a short enough for the amount of money paid.
I also have never seen one of these comercials however.

To everyone who has never seen one of these commercials:

From now on, you'll see them so much it'll make you sick. That's how it works. Someone tells you that there's a bear crapping everywhere. You say, "Oh, that's ridiculous." And then, the next day, the bear is following you around.

uhm the idea is to get you to want to go to the site...

It's like during the superbowl one year, there were a bunch of commercials for this website, but you had no idea what the website was actually for. So, tons of people went to it, probably more than the company expected because it was slow as hell. Yes, even I went to see what it was, because everyone in my family was curious.

It seems sorta pointless to me. I can't imagine most people being so intrigued by a comerical that they're going to stop watching what they were watching to get on the internet and see the rest of the commercial. Fortunately/unfortunately, I am pretty confident I won't be seeing any of these any time soon.

I don't watch tv and neither should you. I think that solves the problem.

Also get an adblock plugin in firebox. Problem solved.

the only commercials i see anymore are geico (not gecko) commercials. they want you to go to the website as well but not to see the ending but to get you to buy there car insurance. me and my friends counted 7 different gaico commercials in an hour of watching tv.

i saw another insurance commercial a short time ago that had 2 animated people fighting idk a monster or something and it said to see then end go to blah blah blah .com. i dindt go to the site.

eSurance. Yeah. I'm gonna trust a car insurance company that's completely online with no paperwork and no phone numbers.

And while I'm trusting them, I'm gonna sign up for a car insurance company that saves a lot of money for bad drivers by not penalizing them enough for accidents yet makes good drivers pay more by having higher initial premiums.

You know. I don't need car insurance anyway. I don't get in accidents. Car insurance is for people who get in accidents. I should apply for a car insurance exemption (if such a thing exists). That would save me loads of money.

Uhh... This is completely off-topic. I blame Lynx. He led me there.
