So, I am faced with a short-essay question for university, to explain in technical detail why we use texture resolution sizes that are multiples of 2 (e.g. 512x512px instead of 500x500px).

I know what I need to write, and I know a bit about memory tiling and how a video card works to process 3D objects and what is ultimately displayed on screen. But I am having a hard time finding where I can reference such statements to fully back up my claims.

Does anyone have any ideas of where I can look?

Have you tried the computer section of a bookstore or a library?

I actually have a few books on texturing and digital painting, and I am unable to reach a library this week. None of the books I have go into much detail about the specifics and technical reasons as to why, apart from the typical statements about binary numbers and computer efficiency. And yeah, it's all just for reference.

I guess I am really just looking for books and authoritative resources that explain memory tiling.
