Hansen's disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae.[1] Leprosy is primarily a granulomatous disease of the peripheral nerves and mucosa of the upper respiratory tract; skin lesions are the primary external symptom.[2] Left untreated, leprosy can be progressive, causing permanent damage to the skin, nerves, limbs, and eyes. Contrary to popular conception, leprosy does not cause body parts to simply fall off, and it differs from tzaraath, the malady described in the Hebrew scriptures and previously translated into English as leprosy.


I'd hug everyone. And yeah, it'd suck. Isn't there an island for them or something?

I'd tell lepper jokes. People always seem to be shocked when you joke about your own illnesses.

My uncle had CF when it was all deathly and stuff, and he had a coughing fit in a restaurant once. The waitress said something along the lines of "Ooh eee, that's a bad cough!" (Geordie accent please), to which he replied "Yeah, it'll be the death of me." The family was shocked, but I find it hilarious.

I'd probably make a living out of giving high fives to people. I'd make a contest out of it so that if someone took my hand off by giving me a high five, they could keep it.

I'd probably travel to Tibet and live a humble life amoung the monks tending delicate flowers and contemplating the simplicities of life and teachings of Buddha until I died.

I'd just start on the WHO-MTD multidrug proram/treatment for leprosy with a high rate of effectiveness and low rate of relapse.
