View Full Version : [A] Geisha (incomplete)

This is the latest drawing I've been working on. A friend of mine (who likes to be called by the name of Charlie) drew the geisha in pencil and I inked it and colored it in Photoshop. It still misses a background though.
So, any comments and/or suggestions? ^_^

Your colouring is impeccable. Hats off.

I think it looks really good, though I have one major problem and that is the neck. It seems really wierd and makes her look quite strange. Colouring is really good though.

The inking seems decent, and the coloring is practically professional. My only real complaints are with the line art itself.

This is fantastic. And you made Kishi post.

That's lovely, Kosher.

The only thing is that the eye makeup looks a bit off. I don't know how to explain it, but it doesn't look quite right.

The work on the hair and kimono is absolutely stunning.

Beautiful coloring. But yes, the neck seems too long^^

so pretty!

something to think about with the colors is making variations in saturation to pull the shading together, but it's not necessary at all for this picture :)

Great colouring job, but i think the lips look sort of strange.

It's a great pic... but i think the hand can be slightly large and the neck shortened.. good luck with the next pic you make!

I actually really like the make up. The lips and red eyeliner are really accurate for a geisha, and is the type of make up they do wear, you did your research. <3

The lips are perfect, but I've never seen any image of a geisha with eye makeup like the one in Kosher's work. But realism isn't the issue. A person can be as creative as they want with their image.

There's just something off about the way the pink extends from the purple area of the makeup. Awkward I'd call it. But other than that, I can't place my finger on why the eye makeup doesn't work for me.

The lip makeup wasn't what i thought was off, but the lower lip itself. I can't put my finger on it.

The length of the neck is what makes it cool. The lower lip could be moved a few pixels to the left though. The hand is a bit awkward. The coloring is glorious though.

Maybe for the background a sakura tree in moonlight? I dunno.

She's not supposed to be an entirely realistic geisha. Have you ever seen a geisha with a brow piercing? :P
Anyway, the hand was supposed to be fixed. My fault, I inked it by mistake before my friend could intervene. é_č
As for the lower lip, hum, yeah, the shape leaves me slightly dissatisfied, too. I never was good at drawing lips. But I like her neck. I't a little too long, sure, but I think it gives her some kind of elegance.
The makeup... I don't know. What's in it that doesn't work exactly?

It's really good. I like your style :)

Hmm... Would the eye make-up look better without the outline? It looks fine to me as-is though.

I considered getting rid of the outline in the makeup as well, but then I decided against it. Why? I can't remember, actually. ^_^'

I think the makeup is fine, but she is missing eyelashes!

Good job, KoShiatar. :jess:

Yeah, Japanese girls are not famous for their long eyelashes, tough. ;)

I think that your hand may be too small. Hands can cover a whole face , I do not believe your hand is large enough. Other than that , the coloring is very well done. I do not have the image in front of me on this page for a more detailed review
