Just curious, did anyone ever use the option in the menu to divide up your party between the 1st and 2nd controller? I did this when the game came out and it was alot of fun, especially cause FF usually seems like a solo thing. I noticed it was in V and VI anthologies (haven't done it yet) and I kinda wished it was spread into other games. I know they were planning it for XII, that would have been cool given its MMO feel.

I didn't know about this.

It might be fun to make the two halves fight each other, if that's possible. =O

I always teamed up with my brother. He had control of Vivi and Steiner, I had Zidane and Freya. Makes those hours of levelling up on disc 4 a little more bearable.

God yes! It's so fun! I took control of Vivi and made him immolate himself repeatedly We'd alternate control over the melee classes and the mages, and sometimes had to discuss what moves we were gonna make in advance.

Not enough games support co-operative play these days, it's a hell of a lot more fun than playing competitively. Lord knows DOOM was good that way.

I was dead-on counting on them doing this. They didn't. Very disappointing; imagine the potential a multiplayer mode would've had.

Me and my cousin did this before

This option is available on many of the games in the series. I never really found it all that fun.

I've always preferred to just watch and verbally help someone through the game, rather than physically controlling a couple of characters in battles.

I did it with my sister, but she kept being too slow and so characters would get seriously hurt. I gave up.

I did this a few times. The novelty quickly wore off.

I did it one time with one of my friends, who is basically as good at Final Fantasy as me.. It was pretty neat, but we'd always get into fights about who we'd control and stuff. We haven't done it since :)

I sometimes did it with my friend. But it kinda sucked because he always would forget who he was controlling and waste like 10 seconds and we'd be taking damage :P .

I think I tried it before, with me on the first controller and perhaps my brother or cousin on the second.

My girlfriend and I decided to play through FFIX together (her first RPG), and this is what we used some of the time. Lots of fun.

I did a couple of times with the SNES version of FFVI, but it isn't really convenient. I prefer to play alone.

I played like that with a friend of mine, she's a member of this forum too actually. Ezellwen. She had only played FFVIII and the first half of FFVII. So then we decided to try out FFIX, her playing and me watching, as I had already completed the game. Which is fine, I'm one of the people who enjoy watching other people play games, but it can get pretty boring to watch other people fight random encounters over and over again, so this 2 player in battle was a good way to make that more fun. She only plays FF's for the story and side-quests too, so it was more fun for her too not having to battle by herself all the time.

I think I tried it once or twice but it was never really enjoyable enough for me to carry on with it. I enjoy co-operative modes in other games but I just didn't feel that such a mode was suited for an RPG really. It was a nice feature for others as this thread shows, but it wasn't for me really.
