The board for FFII seems pretty inactive, which leads me to believe FFII isn't one of the more popular titles in the series. I find this odd, because I absolutely love the way characters and their abilities progress, especially if you take the time in fights to do some exploiting and just attack yourself non-stop, spam your spells over and over, etc. I'm barely about to re-take Fynn and my characters have over 4k life. My cure spell on every character is 10-11, fire is 10 I think, most of my spells are around 10 I think. Sometimes I feel guilty for cheating and exploiting the faulty game mechanics, but oh well. I guess it isn't as bad as duping items on FFIII for DS.

While I do love FF2 immensely and still play it through every so often (one day I will finish it in one sitting), there's a lot less to talk about in it compared to the other FF's. For it's time it was years ahead, but now shows its age. It also doesn't have the "unique factor" that FF1 has. All of this doesn't stop it being a fine game, but in terms of discussion it's somewhat dry.

Well, the FF's that weren't initially released in America typically get overlooked.

II's probably tied with V for my favorite of the first 6, I liked the ability system, it had great music and the way your party changes over the plot (guests) was real cool.

Consider yourself in the minority. FFII is almost universally reviled for its awkward and punishing gameplay.

I'd agree, I'm not quite sure whether it's exclusively because they weren't released, but I'd certainly agree that excepting FFV, they do tend to get overlooked.

I think FFII is a great game but, if I'm to be honest, it never really jumped out to me as being a great game like some of the others, for instance FFVI or FFVII, did.

Anywhere there are reasonable people, I imagine.

The reason I'm not here often is that I haven't played but a couple hours into the game as of yet and elect not to be spoiled. I used to have this problem where I'd start one game, get in the mood to play another and switch, then get in the mood to play another, and somehow, I forgot where I was in all the games and had to start over. This is why I'm now playing them one at a time just to prove I can beat them. It's not my fault that Final Fantasy II ended up last. That's just the way the dice landed.

But I really do think, based on what I've played so far, that it's going to be a good game. I'll find out soon enough, though.

Umm Yeah...FF2 is cool because its a FF and all but for me its EASILY the most unmemorable. In that regard its probably my least favorite and as many have already mentioned, there isnt really that much to talk about.

((Besides of course that smokin young pirate gal who may very well not be that young but still catches my eye regardless of being an 8 bit pixelation of a female party member you dont even get to fully appreciate for all that long))

Ten reasons why Final Fantasy 2 was both revolutionary and unique;

- First example of an open-ended, complete character customisation
- Changing characters in your party
- Your characters weren't just blank slates of classitude
- Chocobos!
- Cid!
- Ultima!
- True scripted cut-scenes rather than the couple of text boxes in FF1
- Dual-wielding
- First official female lead character
- Is the only Final Fantasy to have a map that loops around off the edges in a continual landmass (FF5 doesn't count, that was just a circle).

You forgot to add:

- First game that had appearance of the Dragoon class(Richard)
- First and only game with a male White Mage(Minwu)
- First and only game that you can level your Magic and Weapon skill
- Game to introduce the first FF Pirate(Leila)

Those are all valid, apart from the last one; FF1 had Bikke. Still extends the list to thirteen.

Bikke wasn't playable though:p

Final Fantasy 1 didn't have a Male White Mage? hmm...lemme take a look.

**opens DS, turns game on, loads game file**

Yeah, just as I suspected! my white mage is a male!

you didn't contradict yourself, you contradicted maxx, albeit after half heartedly agreeing with him, "First official female lead character".

Bad wording on my part. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the FF1 WM is supposed to be male despite appearances in the NES version. The WW seems slightly "masculine" to me.

The WM for the PSP version looks feminine though

I thought the original white mage for ff1 was supposed to be male though. I know that all your characters for ff3 were originally supposed to be male, and you could make them white mages, and you could make your male characters from ff5 into white mages, meaning that ff2 definatly wasn't the ONLY game with a male white mage.

An OFFICIAL male white mage. That's what I meant

Agreed. Look at 4, 6 and especially 7. O.o

Also, maybe WM is a female, but WW is a male? XD

I didn't enjoy this game all that much, although I LOVED Minwu, Hilda and Leila. I did managed to almost finish the game, however, but I lost to last boss and then my game somehow wiped. :(
