Don't know if it's old news or not, but this was announced on Gaia Online about a week ago and I just think it's funny :p

Sick of walking? Ride around in style with the Wild Things! Choose from three different modes of transport: the friendly golden Roc, the fearsome wolf Fenrir or the regal tiger Khan.

I sort of want a Roc :exdee:

Have you seen other chocobo copies? Someone on these forums said a while ago that the chocobo itself is a knock-off

Kyoro-chan (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FPXi0A6vZlw) - This little fella used to be the mascot of a Japanese confectionary product named "Chocoballs". Although this anime opening only dates back to the late nineties, it was on the Chocoballs packaging long before that. Either way, if you listen close you keep hearing a "ku-e, ku-e" in the lyrics, aka "kweh", or to a lesser extent "coooc coooc".

There are also Chocobos in Final Fantasy Tactics with a "Choco Ball" attack.

Anyways, it's been theorised that chocobos are at least named after all this (Chocoball in Japanese is "cho-ko-bo-ru") Odds are they designed the creature and were having trouble giving it a name.

I heard that the Chocobo was based on those birds in Nausicaa, I can't remember what they were called. I actually noticed that when I saw it and had a poke around on the internet. A few sources said they were based on those birds, but I can't be bothered to find them. Watch it, they are strikingly similar.
