I mean, for Christ's sake! It says Quin in the bloody avatar, you bunch of twazzocks!

Have you ever been named incorrectly? Like spelling it wrong, or saying it wrong or summat.

People frequently spell my name and surname incorrectly, and also say the latter wrong too. It annoys me. Both are spelled fairly obviously, unless you're saying it wrong. In which case, shut up and leave me alone you dumbass.

Yep. My IRL name is uncommon where I live so it gets pronounced and spelled incorrectly, every day.

I don't think there is any other way of saying 'Amy' then the obvious, perhaps "Ah-me". Once a relative wrote 'To Aimee' on a card, pfft!

What are you talking about Harle? :p

People are always pronouncing my first name wrong. McLovin' always does that. >=(

Breine
12-02-2007, 06:54 PM
It hasn't happened with my real-life name, which is pretty easy to pronounce. But, everybody seems to think that Breine is pronounced like [Brain], when in actuality it is more like [Brei-neh]. But, whatever.. it's a common misunderstanding, but I'm pretty fine with it. Mostly because of the phrase "Breine the Dane", which rhymes

.. and because of the nifty rhyming my user name is now officially pronounced like "Brain"!

one time in class we were talking about people who mispronounced last names, and like four of us were like 'omg that happens all the time' then I realized we all had five-letter last names, so obviously that was the reason.

You'd think that by-rum would be all too obvious, but I have to spell it often and correct pronounciation also.

My first name is pronounced incorrectly all the time. If I care enough I'll correct, but most of the time I don't even bother, especially if it's with people I'll never see again.

Madame Adequate

It's rare that my name is mispronounced, although there are occasional difficulties in spelling.

陳 is romanized as Chan instead of Chén or Chun or however your local azn dialect pronounces it.

I don't care, personally.

Quin For The Win!

and ...someone added a jim to my name once.

...is your name Sunny?

My last name (aka surname) is Tryson. I've gotten Tyson (so many times), Tryon, and TrysAHN. It's a schwa sound in the second syllable, it doesn't rhyme with gone, and there's an r and an s in it. Not too hard to pronounce, yet people mess it up more often than they should.

Shauna

A supply teacher once read out my name as "Shaun". I was embarrassed, although I doubt the teacher was more confused than I was embarrassed. Imagine a girl answering to "Shaun"! Crazy.

LunarWeaver
12-02-2007, 07:50 PM
My first and last name are easy...and both only four letters, actually. Kyle and Rudd are pretty darn simple. I lucked out it seems! As for online, I doubt anybody says Lunar other than how it is said.

But I sympathize with you Quin, and if you want to march around holding a sign in the name of anger I will help you :holmes:.

People spell my name wrong all the time. It's a minor annoyance a lot of the times but sometimes I do need to emphasize the correct spelling - such as when my boss was ordering engraved nametags and still kept spelling my name Stewart.

I often get "Schlup." Whatever that's about.

My last name is M.. It's not phonetic.

My real name is hard to mess up, unless you're French or an idiot. Though, my university refuses to acknowledge my second middle name, and the Chinese department just uses an entirely different one, so to them I'm Richard D Wright, instead of Richard J Wright as my university calls me, and Richard J E Wright, which is correct.

Aerith's Knight
12-02-2007, 11:08 PM
you know that JE or je means you in dutch.. so it would say Richard you wright :).. which is wrong.. because your typing :p

how can you mispronounce richard.. i mean we've all watched friends

Have to spell out my surname to people most of the time despite it being, in my view, fairly straightforward. I don't mind because it's better that they know rather than it being spelt wrong, isn't it? As for my first and middle names, well, people usually don't have much trouble with 'Thomas' or 'Samuel.'

I'm already jumping for joy.

People call me Samuel too often. I don't see why anybody in their right mind would want to add an extra syllable to a name, but whatever. It's not my unnecessary effort.

But they do now that I'm called Harle-Quin. Even though it's clear that the Quin is what's highlighted. It's not like a majority call me it, because the majority of EoFF have some form of intelligence.

It's like when ReloadPsi gets called Reload. His sig even states that he wants to be called "Psi" not "Reload", but people do it anyway because they're bastards.

Besides, I'm not whining in a whiny way. I'm merely using it as an excuse to make a thread.

My surname is also a first name, so people are forever calling me James instead of George. I ought to change it to Ampleforth or Hyde-Rawlinson or something to avoid any further confusion.

None of my names are difficult to pronounce, but my first name is the same as my dad's but I go by my middle name. I've been called by it by teachers and profs and anyone else who doesn't know better for years. I got so tired of correcting them that I stopped in University, but this lead to other problems as my first and last names are the same as a former Prime Minister. Somehow my profs still thought they were the first to come up with every joke they ever made regarding that fact.

People never ever ever say my last name correctly.

You know the people at the super market, why the hell do they feel the need to address you by your last name? It's like, just say "thank you for shopping with us" and leave out the damn name. They never pronounce it correctly, and it pisses me off because they don't NEED to say the name and yet they insist on reading the name off the receipt and then butchering it.
