View Full Version : Six degrees of Wikipedia

This is a fun little game I thought up of while I was browsing around on Wikipedia over lunch and is similar to the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. I'll post two random pages from Wikipedia, and the goal is to figure out the quickest way to link from the first page to the second page.

Example
Page 1: Diablo II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diablo_II)
Page 2: Final Fantasy VI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VI)

I made it in 4 "clicks":
Diablo II -> Rock N' Roll Racing -> Super Nintendo Entertainment System -> Final Fantasy V -> Final Fantasy VI

The rules are simple:
- You can only use in-page links, nothing from the left-hand side-bar/navigation can be used.
- You can't edit a page to put a link in. You must use the page as it appears in the browser.
- You can't use dates. This refers to a specific calendar date, day, month, year or any related links, like 1990s or 20th century.

Now, for the first page pairing:
Page 1: Tony Blair - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Blair)
Page 2: Final Fantasy VII - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII)

qwertysaur

That was too easy.

Tony Blair -> 2007 -> 1990s -> Final Fantasy -> Final Fantasy VII

Only 4 clicks :D

Edit: Forgot to add one of the links I used. Oops.

And you changed it from 3 to 4 clicks. :p
Sounded fun until qwertyxsora got it so fast. :/

i got tony blair -> 1997 -> video gaming -> ff7

Ive played a similar game except i get the article on the front page and try to relate it to sex with only clicking the links availabe at the top without scrolling.

Sorry, I was talking to someone at the same time as I was typing, so I put 3 instead of 4 links.

If you can just go to year pages, that'll probably make everything really easy. xP

Good call. We'll add a rule that you can't use any form of dates.

How about:
Page 1: Porsche 64 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_64)
Page 2: Piranha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirahna)

Yeah using years is pretty inane.

Anyway I did it with no years, Tony Blair > Socialist > Japan > Music of Japan > Nobuo Uematsu > Final Fantasy VII.

Porsche 64 >> Monterey, CA >> Monterey Bay Aquarium >> freshwater >> freshwater fish >> piranha
5 clicks, prolly a way to do it w/ 4 but i couldn't find it

ack, i missed one:
Porsche 64 >> Monterey, CA >> Monterey Bay Aquarium >> aquarium >> freshwater >> freshwater fish >> piranha
so, 6, however:

Porsche 64 >> Monterey, CA >> Monterey Bay Aquarium >> aquarium >> list of freshwater aquarium fish species >> piranha

so back to 5 again

This is how I did it;

Porsche 64 -> Monterey CA -> Fishing -> Fish -> Piranha (The Movie) -> Piranha

That'd be five clicks I believe. :cool:

I also managed this one, but I took a clue off of chionos so I'm not sure if it's allowed;

Porsche 64 -> Monterey CA -> Fishery -> List of Freshwater Fish -> Piranha

There's a link to Aquarium on the Monterey, California page.
Porsche 64 >> Monterey, CA >> aquarium >> list of freshwater aquarium fish species >> piranha

I play this all the time in Programming. Mullet, mind if I set up a challenge? I'll make it extra-bizarre.

For now they are.

Go for it. This was just a fun little diversion I posted.

Would be more fun if it didn't allow for categories, and rather only the links within content. :)

With that said, let's try...

but imho the second and third to last are ridiculous on wikipedia's part because one is just a page saying 'lol this list is too big for this page!' and the second is the list on that page.
