View Full Version : The Quiet Period

Generally surrounding 5am PST, there is a period of time where most AmeriCanadians drop off the internet while all those in Europe are out at work. This got me looking at the Who's Online list today and noticing who is and is not online around this time. A lot of people from East Asia, Australia and New Zealand are online during their peak hours which exist around this period, but I also notice the odd person living in Europe or America still around. So, to those Europeans and American individuals: What are you doing online at this time? Do those living in Europe go online while at work (like me!) or at college? Do some of you Americans just never sleep? Out with it!

EDIT: For reference, 5am PST is around two hours before this post was made. I think.

Well, for me, I was sleeping. I'm only up right now because I have spare time and I didn't feel like going back to sleep.

I start work between 6:00-7:00 AM several mornings during the week. This thread was created around 6:40 AM for me, so that's why I am on during The Quiet Period.

Mulley: Do you work from home, or take very little time to get to work, or do you go online while at work?

My usual online time is while I'm at work. 3 PM to 11 PM. I'm up now because I can't sleep. For more information, you can visit Rantzien's usernotes.

My normal sleep period is somewhere between midnight and 10 am PST. Then my activity is simply up to my responsibilities for the day.

This thread is confusing. Would it kill you to use GMT +/- xyz ? I'm GMT-5 for example (when there's no DST)

Right now at this moment I'm at work. In about 3 hours I am home from work. I started work about 5.5 hours ago.

Yeah, idk about anything but GMT. Not a criticism but I'm confuddled XD

The quiet period would cover...

2am PST to 8am PST. That's California.
5am EST to 11am EST. That's New York.
10am GMT to 6pm GMT. That's the UK.

There we go.

I might have still been hear in the early part of the quiet period this morning. I went to bed late. :P

I've been going to bed around 3-5 am a lot the last few months, and I've pulled a couple of all-nighters recently, so I'm sure I've gone on EoFF at least a few times during the quiet period to relax/procrastinate a little.

10am to 6pm? From 10am to 4pm, I'm at school and I can't access EoFF at school dammit. :( And from 4pm til 6pm I'm usually here - or doing homework, or playing the PS2. Whichever. :D

I've been out of class since the 29th, and classes don't start again until the 9th of January, so I either rarely sleep, or always sleep.

5am for some Americans isn't that early. Blue collars wake before this.

If I'm awake at 4:30, it will invariably be because I haven't gone to bed yet. That's way too early for me to ever wake up.

All quiet on the western front...

It is nice not having a lot of activity right now, because it gives me a chance to browse over the activity from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am (-6 GMT or CST).
