Yep, you read it right.

The newest installment in tri-Ace's flagship Star Ocean series, Star Ocean 4, has been confirmed to be in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The newest addition to the critically acclaimed franchise is apparently too big for one game, so developer tri-Ace decided to split it up into the following three episodes: Star Ocean 4: First Departure, Star Ocean 4: Second Evolution and Star Ocean 4: Till the End of Time. Series fans should recognize the subtitles as being the same for the first three games of the series (the first and second subtitles being newly added for the PSP remakes).
Star Ocean 4: First Departure will be available in Japan sometime next year.

I guess that's the new deal of Square Enix now.

Three discs? Sounds ridiculously epic. Either that or the damage cap is so high they need three discs just to contain it.

As long as each game doesn't have 1/3 the content it would if it was one game, whatever.

From what I hear Square Enix hasnt officially said it yet, but this is the most likely outcome. Lets hope they don't botch it up like Star Ocean 3.

I can't remember a time when spreading a game across multiple installments has ever ended well for an RPG. I just hope they don't completely mess it up like Xenosaga and end up with 3 20-30 hour games.

Also those subtitles are stupid.

EDIT: Apparently the news is fake anyway (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=215997&page=5).

Oh, man!
I hate those fakers. :(

I didnt like the idea anyway. Much rather just have the one game, rather than pay 3 times the price and get 3 average games.

Gah, more fake news. I wish tri-Ace would at least release what console it's going to be on...
