In Pandemonium, Disc 3, after Garland tells Zidane his true origin, and after much self-loathing, Zidane wakes up in a room called "Mind Control" (i think) in Pandemonium, on a chair, with a circular...thing on the wall behind him. I just realized that the scene looked alot like this:

It also parallels how at the start of the game, Zidane is going to kidnap the princess (real name Sara).

Any other uncommon references you've found while playing this game? I read recently that due to the english translation, alot of references didn't make it over here. shame.

Side note: I finally beat Ozma after 7 years!

Congrats on the Ozma win!

I like how FFIX's references are both obvious and subtle. It's a nice gesture to the fans - some of the tributes are glaringly obvious, like the Buster Sword lookalike in Lindblum, while others are deeper and less self-evident.

I agree with Big D i like the way many of the references are hidden quite well and there are many of them:)
And congrats on beating Ozma:D

i enjoyed the subtle allusion to Matoya's potions in Lindblum, and how you had a black mage boy and a white mage girl kinda like pollum and poron in IV.

I like the thought put into the characters. There was some awesomeness in Thingfish's description of his riddle. It made me all moist.

Yeah. Each key item has a description which is a quote by a character and I think it's Matoya that one of the quotes belong to. At least I think that's the reference anyway.
