Silly-ness.

People should learn self control (I mean, as if it was playfighting or Imatation of "Mortal Kombat" type move (what, 2 frame kicking?)... it was a DRUNKEN Assault).

It's lacking absolutely everywhere and it sucks.

I wish they would specify which moves, though. Not due to my liking Mortal Kombat vaguely, but because any moves that aren't in the super-natural in MK aren't really all that specific to MK. I wonder if it was part of the witness's explanation, or an observation of the author.

As for her death, I feel sorry for her, that she was killed by two fools whom didn't even want to kill her, it seems. I can't help but think that the two were in an odd mental state. After all, the baby sitter WAS drunk.

I feel awful for chuckling at this thread...

Guys, this ain't /b/. Let's try to maintain at least a little class here.

Not that there's much point to this thread anyway. We're all saddened and outraged that the little girl was killed, and we're none of us going to say videogames had anything to do with it, the thread will probably degenerate into poor taste or petty bickering, and it'll eventually either fall off the front page or it'll get closed.

So I'm going to hijack the thread segue into a somewhat-related thing I wrote a few weeks back: Here's a paradox (http://uk.gamespot.com/users/HuxleyHobbes/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25202922).

Is it fair for us to act like games are nearly meaningless in one moment and claim they can be the equal of the finest in film and literature the next?

Roto13
12-21-2007, 07:03 PM
Sure it's fair. Movies, music, sculputres, paintings, etc. don't cause otherwise-sane people to kill each other either.

Well... if the article is trying to say that the fact that they play MK made them kill the girl - they are stupid. They would have killed the girl either way. The way they killed her was impacted by MK, obviously. And for all of you who are making jokes about this - shame on you.

Anyway, 48 years, blah blah blah.
Who knows the actors that were in the original MK games? Perhaps a demonstration on those teens is in order?

Evastio
12-21-2007, 10:01 PM
I can't believe that those teens would be dumb enough to kill someone by acting out moves from a video game, even if they were drunk. 48 years in prison for those boys is more like a reward for them. They deserve much harsher than that. I don't mind it at all when people injure and kill themselves when they're drunk, (I'd actually encourage them to do that. It'd lower the amount of bad and useless people we have in the world) but killing others in their drunkenness really infuriates me.

And I seriously can't believe that you people actually made jokes about it on EoFF. It's one thing if it didn't actually happen (although it'd still make me mad) but it's just sick how you're enjoying this. Would you be laughing if the person killed was someone that was close to you? At least show a little respect to the death of the innocent people.

The actors from the original game will be remembered but thats in the past, man. I want to play the Mortal Kombat game on the Ds, too. It would be like bloody gaming on the move, you could be in the presence of kids and beheading imaginative characters.

I actually like spam, as long as it's funny. But a 7 year old girl's death shouldn't be joked about.

Also, wouldn't this thread fit better in EoEO? I mean... there's no way MK actually has anything to do with this. >_<

"Should" is an ugly word. I think it should be stricken from the language. If the death of small child is considered humorous then fair play to all who find it humorous. Individuality and all that.

Admittedly though, I don't find anything funny about this. It's stupid as hell, the kids involved were idiots, and considering how terrified that little girl must have been while she was being beaten senseless, it's sick. Those kids deserve everything they get, and probably more.

I don't usually want to push my opinions on others, but if someone can humour on that, then it means that person's really really sick, in my opinion, and I believe in the opinion of most people too.
Besides, in these forums the general rule is not to post stuff that could be offensive to the sensitivity of someone else. And joking on a small child's death was extremely offensive to my sensitivity, which I'm sure is shared by many others here.
