Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile is a new story following Magus's turbulent experience in Zeal as he dons the guise of the Prophet, curries favor with the Queen, and prepares for his second attempt at exacting revenge on Lavos. It's full of graphical, level, sound, and design polishes and surprises, reflecting the cutting edge in Trigger hacking. About two or three regular Trigger chapters long, it's the first Chrono Trigger hack with a new story.

A patch? I can never get these things to work. Screw that.

Looks interesting but I can't even get translation patches working.

I can do patches, but not with the one they give.

Also, the patch doesn't run on SNES9x, so likely you would need ZSNES, which I can't be arsed to download right now.

Though I'll check it out later.

I don't have the ROM or this patch. You hear that Square? I own no ROMs. So this is theory.

But I bet if you create a copy of your Chrono Trigger ROM, then run the program called Lunar IPS, click "apply patch", and then click on the copied ROM, it will patch it for you. It is irreversible and should not be used on an original.

I also imagine it's pretty cool, but since I have not played CT in so long I'm a bit confused as to what might be going on. It is still fun to run about and read new text nonetheless. And Magus flies when he runs, and really, who cares about anything but that?

For anyone who may be on the fence as far as trying this out, here's some videos that should give you an idea as to what to expect from the hack:

I must admit that the entire premise of the thing is rather interesting and the extended preview does make me want to check it out. I always found Magus' backstory (in relation to Zeal in particular) to be rather interesting. 12,000BC was the most interesting time period in my opinion and I've always wondered how Magus reacted when he realised he was thrown back to his childhood and how things unravelled before Crono and the gang get there.

Thank you for posting that, Zeality. It is always a pleasure to hear about news on the Chrono series from you.

I will take a look into this ROM hack when I get home. I'm glad that that ROM Editor that was unveiled at your web site was put to good use. What was it called, again? Crimson Echoes? I remember the speculation about what it was before it was revealed as a ROM editor program.

Are there any other ROM hacks on the way? Let us know.

Thanks; I apologize if those posts sometime seem like spam. It's a problem I've run into at other forums.

The editor is Temporal Flux, and the next Compendium project that's been in development far too long already is Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes. There are now 2 coders working on it again, so it's 25% done. Once the skeleton is done (all the basic maps and events), things will get really fun and development will speed up.

Anyhow, today's criticism of PG equals tomorrow's quality for CE! So don't hesitate to tell us if we got something totally wrong.

I am looking forward to playing this a whole lot and you will probably get criticism from me since I am not a big Magus fan and felt he always got way more fan attention than deserved.

None the less, I am a huge chrono trigger fan and can't wait to see what is in store. I would expect for him to travel around with Dalton as a companion as well as some other people. Should be interesting what you guys have come up with.

How can you like chrono trigger and not like Magus???

This seems really interesting, I'm not sure when i'll get around to patching and playing it, but I downloaded it anyway for safekeeping in case Square-Enix gets all anal about this. Props though Zeality, i look forward to playing this and checking out Crimson Echoes when it comes out.

Cuz he isn't a team player. Chrono Trigger was all about working together and he doesn't.
