Dose anyone here have UT3? I got it when I still had Vista and the graphics were nice but the performence was not realy good. I got fed up with the problems on vista and installed Windows XP and at first the game lacked the quality it had on Vista because it was using DirectX 9.0. Just recently I found a DirectX 10 driver for XP so I installed it...Now Unreal Turnament 3 plays realy well with DX10 graphics! So heres my big question do any of you guys have the same problem with DX10 on Vista...and if this becomes more popular will Vista die?

Discus.

Heres the screen shots of the game running on XP with DirectX 10

Since when did they release DirectX 10 drivers for Windows XP? I was certain it was Vista only.

I have UT3, but mainly use the editor. I can assure you though, that I run it in DirectX 9.0c and it looks far more detailed than your screenshots (but that might be because of my resolution being 1600x1050).

DX10 is definitely supposed to be Vista-only, but really, it's just a matter of time before people figure out a work-around to get it running on XP.

There's already a workaround. I think. I know people can play Crysis with DX10 on XP, so there has to be. And he said he had DX10 drivers.

Answer: UT3 just didn't get a very good launch. It wasn't hyped nearly enough or advertised enough. Shame, really, since it's such a great series. I'll almost certainly buy the Xbox 360 version. Not big on purchasing PC games, really.

People can play Crysis with DX10 effects because those aren't really limited to DX10 ... you can activate most of them with console commands ...

As far as DX10 XP drivers are concerned I only heard of Alky Project (http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/) and they stopped working on it. So I don't know what DirectX 10 driver the OP got his hands on.

I think your right. those screens were taken with 1060x680. But the game looked bad in DX 9 on my PC.

Maybe you need more RAM to get better results for Vista because Vista uses more RAM than XP, it's not that a lot needed though.

When my PC had vista, I upgraded to 1.5GB of ram,an Nvidia 8500 GT card and still had problems.

I'm posting some more sreens in JPEG format so you can see the actual size but the quality will be a bit less because of the format.

I have the same graphic card as you :D which is a good thing. So far I have never had any problem yet.

What's the spec of your processor?

What kind of Vista are you using? (Home, Premium or Ulimate).

Is your computer based on 32 bit or 64 bit?

I've heard that DirectX 10 is not 100% accurate as it may can cause minor errors.

Post your problem on the UT3 site, I'm sure you will get better solutions from the tech guys.

And no, Vista won't die. It's getting stronger and stronger every month. I used to have XP for years, but I changed to Vista and so far I'm loving it.
