A person named Tomas Hobbes said we were,
and personally I have to agree.
So what about you?

I am most certainly a selfish, wicked person. I'm one of the most self-centered people I know, and it makes me kind of sad, but I won't lie about it.

I'm so unselfish that when people talk about me, they cry due to knowing how generous and thoughtful I am.

I try not to be selfish or self centered, but for a long time I was very depressed and unhappy with my life and didn't realize how much I had to give to people so it's kind of hard to break out of that mindset. I try to do as much as I can for everyone I love/know, but self pity is always there lurking in the back of my mind. ;__;

I would say I'm not as selfish as I use to be. Wicked, well that's a different story.

I'm talking about
1) We're on the internet when we could be helping people
2) We probably eat more than what's neccesary for us to survive
3) We probably live with more luxuries than we need
and so on

Ouch!

And those are all terrible things because if one's not a saint who is willing to devote one's own life completely to the aid of others one is obviously a bad person.

1) Not my problem.
2) I'd eat twice the amount I'd normally eat if people complained to me about me eating too much when I could be giving food to people in need of it.
3) The day they want what I have, it shall be over my dead body.

I don't really have too many necessities though, I live pretty plainly but I guess you are right. I just don't know how to help more than I already do. I don't have the money or time really to do anything but here and there.

As far as eating goes, I eat like a bird. So honestly not wasting any food.

And here I am making excuses.

If we were inherently selfish and wicked we wouldn't be sat here talking to each other right now, since no scientific progress would be made if we were all stabbing each other in the back. On the contrary, scientific studies show that the opposite is true; that we're naturally altruistic and caring to one another. The only reason we appear selfish and wicked is because altruism is the norm, hence the assholes stand out more.

1) Even the simplest of words can help someone in need. For a person lost in depression and fear, or pain, encouragment is the first step towards optomism

2) We dont nessisarily eat more. If people want to do so much about it then they should grow thier own. I mean the goverment is always like 'yadda yadda we have to help these people this and that' when the reality is if every MP gave up a 1/4 of thier years salary and put it towards national help in Africa it could cure poverty and set up much needed medical treatment stations, contribute to the rebuild of a once proud nation.

3) We do live with more luxuries than we need, but then again, so do alot of people. Again, read above.

Selfish, yes. Wicked, no.

Being concerned with the survival of oneself and the things most important to oneself is selfish, and it is also good. We wouldn't survive otherwise.

Pure altruism and the denial of self is as great a problem as not helping others. If you actually can't, no one would fault you. If you could, you know you could, and then specifically decide NOT to help, then you'd be wicked. But who doesn't have their own share of problems to deal with?

So, no. I just think we are all idiots.

I saw a safety vest lying in the middle of the road today. It was crumpled, but fresh and new. I had just passed by an abandoned car in the middle of an intersection.

No doubt I was in little Havana, but my mind took me to the concept of the rapture where each Christian suddenly disappears, leaving the world wrought with the havoc of empty and uncontrollable planes, trains, and automobiles.

Suddenly, even my religion seemed selfish on a level, and so therein lies the answer.

We are as we are told to practice. First, we must save ourselves, and only then can we presume to try to save others. And, of course, it is ultimately up to the others to determine whether or not they will save themselves, because salvation (and I'm using these terms not solely for religious meaning here, btw) is a choice based on the degree of a person's selfishness.

Are you selfish enough to go to heaven? Or are you selfish enough to go to hell?
Are you selfish enough to steal your friend's girlfriend or are you selfish enough to deprive her of you for the sake of friendship?

Whatever.

Nobody is wicked. Wickedness is simply the name for when another person's normal, healthy, selfish decision negatively impacts another.

Selfishly, I treat this like the eoeo forum.

The first of those three is an easy generalization, but honestly, why aim it directly at us? You could tell that to just about anyone you walk up to. Someone going to their job could be trying to find someone who could use some of the food in their fridge instead, but instead, they're out getting money for themselves which will be spent on luxury and food, allegedly. Someone who's dying of thirst could be looking for food for another person rather than getting water for themselves. I could be looking to help others rather than defend myself on an internet forum simply stating you can say the same claim for others, leaving my actions unjustified. In truth, we just don't care. :monster:

everyone deserves to die...humans are pitiful creatures with selfish and evil natures :)...and if they arent selfish and evil then they are either mexican..or the kind of person that does anything to make others happy....and thats idiotic...be yourself

All the worlds probloms can be traced back to three simple words, People-are-stupid. And yes, we are very selfish, but as we act selfishly we dont always have the worst intentions of others at heart. To be wicked you must activly want to cause others pain. We in fact often times have the best intentions at heart... We are beings with the best intentions yet we are to selfish to act on them.

I'm going to be a bit of socialist about this and say that I don't necessarily think that we're all selfish and wicked people, but that due to the nature of the society in which we live, we are somewhat corrupted by it and act in bad ways. Ultimately, I think most people are good people at heart, though certain situations and events push people to act selfish and wicked. Obviously not everyone is a good person, but I think everyone has the potential to be one.

well i care about a lot of people more then my own self. so in that sense i wouldnt be selfish but since there happiness makes me happy does that make me selfish? its a kind of paradox really. i do not however think we're all wicked. jsut because we try to make ourselves happy instead of tohers at times doesnt make us wicked in the least.

Not everyone is selfish and wicked. At times, maybe, but not always.
I am selfish sometimes and do terrible things ocassionally but I always do my best to help people whenever I can. Heck, I raised $3000 for charity over the course of 5 years. And I'm only 15.

I am selfish, yes. Callous, I am told, also.

Is it a boast? No, but if it does happen to be the truth, I don't much care either.

Thats my attitude to life...you stole it! Give it back! :mad2:

Well, not all the time but sometimes...:p I have to confess that I'm selfish/self centered.;) You can't be selfless all the time. Sometimes you just have to be selfish- - or you get knocked down.:mog:

I firmly believe that absolutely everything you do in life, including supposed selfless acts, is for a selfish reason. There's always a way you can manage this. The easy one is "you want to gain approval in the eyes of others" or "you want to feel less guilty".

I'm at work right now because I selfishly want money. I am posting at a forum because I selfishly want people to talk to in order to make my time go faster. Everything and anything you do can be put down to selfish reasons, even if you don't like them or believe them, I can probably come up with them. :) I've had a lot of discussions about this one in the past, it's always fun coming up with the selfish reasoning for things such as people sacrificing themselves to save others and whatnot. xD

But in all seriousness, selfishness is not always a bad thing.

Screw the wicked bit, though. You can't tell me Ghandi was evil.
