So what's your favourite thing about anime?

Personally, it'd have to be all of the awesome looking male characters and pretty female characters (points to sig) that most anime series/movies have.

I also like how crazy they act at times (crazy angry facial expressions, bursting in anger, etc).

Let's see... the captivating storylines, the beautiful artistic style that is used, the adorable female characters, the badass male characters, and the overall humor. <3

There's a lot I enjoy. It depends on the show though as anime has taken on such a broad term anymore.

Generally though I enjoy the animations. And I love the character designs, be them insane or not, it's just nice to see something interesting that characters wear that you'd never see in real life except outside of fashion shows or anime conventions.

I also enjoy how watching the Japanese versions of the shows the dialog can get pretty poetic at times. And in my opinion the characters and stories are much more developed then so many American forms of media. Anime also doesn't try to be gimmicky or follow as many social norms as American media does. Anymore American shows and movies will just sell out and do something 'cool' because they think it'll get them better ratings or what not. Really most animes are better developed then so many other forms of media now a days.

I also like how sometimes different series' will actually surprise you and aren't as formulated as other shows and movies I watch now a days. I also enjoy how there's a lot of animes I watch to the end and they leave me pondering over it for days, weeks or even years (damn you Evangelion!).

Umm... the fact that is animated? that at least one character has crazy hair and normally contains at least one character who defies gravity! it is a win win if they are the same character.

All the sick yaoi porn it spawns for me involving rape

I think a lot of them have awesome plots that would come off wrong if not animated in that style. Well, some of them. Some anime are boring as all hell. But some are greater than anything :save:

A lot of it gives me awesome music too. Thank you Kanno and Kajiura!

Band-aids fix everything rule(Except broken bones ;p).

Serious answer: the shy girl bibliophile stock character, the hyper active nut girl stock character, and the crazy over the top skills and weapons.

So what's your favourite thing about anime?

When people don't bandy on about it like it's some kind of celestial gift from the Gods of Olympus.

What I like most about anime is how the medium isn't as limited as its animated counterparts in the west are. While I'm sure the vast majority of anime is still kid's stuff, there is always a great deal of more mature shows available. And since they aren't limited to the confines of reality (both in plot and the actors/characters themselves), creativity can be taken in ways that Live Action just won't be able to do justice to.

There are some things that Live Action shows inherently do better, and there are even a few Western cartoons that effectively appeal to mature audiences, but I turn to anime for the wide range of genres and styles it encompasses.

I like anime because of the plot lines and the fact that it's enjoyable, there's stuff of almost every genre imaginable.

Oh God that was so gay! :eep:

I love the way they design characters, even when characters are not pretty we love them! ^^ Also most stories are tough and my personals where the Vatican is bad or has to fight against vampires! Anime is awsome for people who are creative and have a cool mind!

The narratives are obviously what draw me in, but animation and music also play an important role. :)

I love animation for the quality of presentation. Unfortunately, that quality in laughably poor in almost all anime. I just live for the exceptions.

I don't really watch anime anymore, but anime for me is all about the art.

It could have the best story line to man, but if it's drawn horribly I can't stand to watch it.
I also prefer anime's with more realistic tone's in the art over the CLEARLY big eye'd anime one's.

That's kind of hypocritical. No offense.

Usually the starting premise is pretty good and draws me in.

Of course by the end of most I'm totally turned off by how poorly they try to explain it all. But usually it's a pretty intense ride up until then.

The fact that just about all series have a discernable beginning, middle, and end.

In most western series, the creators will keep milking the show until it utterly jumps the shark. In Japan, a show is usually planned out from beginning to end. This allows for more dramatic and unpredictable storytelling as opposed to the whole "lets just keep things going until it gets unpopular, than change it" vibe of most western productions.

But yeah I like how many animes kill shows when they need to die. Some do it too soon though. :(

Dragonball Z DOES have a discernable end, It just takes its sweet time getting there.

As for Inu Yasha... blame takahashi, the creator of the manga for that one. She started inu yasha just after the Year of the Dog on the Chinese calender, and vowed to keep inu yasha going until the next year of the dog. The company that was doing the anime sat down with her to talk about ending the anime, and she was still nowhere near the end of the manga, so they just ended the series in mid story.

:eep: That's a bit superficial...

Anyways, I basically like anything with a good storyline. The art to me is very well drawn in most animes. And I like it in terms of like the "What's gonna happen next?" elements. Because its more enjoyable that way.
