View Full Version : Which version are you on?

Let's take a poll on which version of the game everyone is playing. I think I included them all, unless you actually own a WSC and are playing it on that. But if you are doing that then you are probably too hardcore to vote on polls anyway.

Also, which your favorite?

I'm playing Origins on my PS2 and it is my favorite version.

You should participate in our event (http://forums.eyesonff.com/final-fantasy-i/114364-eyes-plays-final-fantasy-i.html). :monster:

I'm playing Origins, also, and it's my first time through so I suppose it is my favorite version. I have to say, though, I kind of miss not seeing all the 8-bit sprites. No RSL for me. :(

I've completed it before on a NES emulator, but right now I'm playing through my Origins edition on my PS2. I think I prefer it, although the character graphics in FF1 are definitely classics.

Currently, the DoS version, emulated of course. But I've played the NES and PSX versions.

Played Origins, NES, and DoS. Beat only the DoS and NES versions.

As for which ones I prefer the classic feel of the original NES version. But DoS is nice when I don't want ineffectives and a faster paced game.

I'm playing the original on NES. I have the rest as well, but the NES original is the only one that I have ever played.

I've only beat Final Fantasy I with one version, and that was suprisingly Origins for the PSX. However, I'm currently in the middle of the Dawn of Souls version. I plan to buy Anniversary sometime in the future, because the FFII Anniversary edition was pretty awesome.

Dawn of Souls, of course. :D

Dawn of Souls, on the GBA, though I'll probably get around to Origins sometime this month. I don't do emulators-not because I have anything against them, mind, but because I can never get the hang of playing an RPG on the computer.

NES emulator. Wishing I could be playing on my NES, but alas.

Also, that's my favorite version as it's the only one i've ever played.

I just played the GBA version Dawn of Souls. I actually played it on my Gameboy Player for Game Cube but it's the same deal.

I've played it on NES but I can't recall ever emulating it. Weird, because I was hooked on emulating for a looong time. :Oo:

Anniversary edition, am I the only one? The only time I've played through it...i should probably get my head in the game.

Well, I just changed it.

Right now.

Instead of playing on an NES emulator with a playstation USB controller, I'm now playing on a playstation emulator with the playstation USB controller!

So, NES version to Origins! :D

I'd be playing the DoS version for real if my SP and games weren't thieved. So emulator for me. I really wish I could find a NES and play the original. I don't feel complete xD

I notice there's selections for emulation. I can only hope this isn't some attempt to catch everyone with ROM's and get the po-lice 'round there crib.

FYI I'm playing the PSP version.

I'm playing Dawn of Souls on an emulator. I wasn't sure how much time I'd have to dedicate to the challenge so I thought I'd go for the easiest one available that is still a cracking version of the game.

NES version on an emulator, because I wanted the original experience. Too bad Squaresoft didn't release this version in Europe, I would've bought it along with a NES. Oh well, maybe one day it will come to VC.

I voted Origins, since the GBA and PSP remakes are easier than Origins' Easy Mode is known to be.

Also, appropriately speaking, it's the 1st FF I've played.

I like the DoS version. I actually didn't think it was that easy, contrary to what everyone says. But that could be just because I suck at that game. :jess:

i play the NES version because i love old games, but i actually really like the DoS version, it's more fun i think because it's more enjoyable, it isn't as hard, and everything works correct(THF,Luck,Elemental swords/armor) also i'm just not a huge origins fan, they could've done a lot more with it

I've got games going on both Origins (PS) and on the WSC (emulator) versions right now. I still play this game multiple times a year... I'll never get sick of it.

I think I've finally retired the NES version, though. I only occasionally pull it out for kicks. I've been through the game on that one more than enough times now, and with other satisfactory versions to play, I think I can move on.

Beaten the NES and DoS versions (both on emulators) and I own Origins but have yet to play it properly, I recently aquired the Anniversary Edition for the PSP this christmas, so I'll do that one first before Origins.

PSP version.
Its the first time i play the game and i really enjoy it so far.
I have just arrived at the Lifespring Grotto. The PSP version of the music theme that plays in this place is one of the best themes in the whole series.Imo it describes the definitive feeling and mood of a Final Fantasy game.

I actually own the Wonderswan Color handheld version and play that.

Seriously though, Origins on my trusty psone. But the NES version will always hold a special place in my heart. Ah the first time I met Warmech as a mere youth.

you should really add the iPhone version....its guaranteed to draw more people as the userface for itunes is alot bigger than any single console ever was. Therefore giving more people the chance to experience this game!

Original on an NES emulator.

I own and have played the Origins version also. There's a simplistic charm to the original that isn't quite captured by the Origins version IMO. One of the things that made the original great is that it didn't aspire to be more than it could be with the technology available, which is why the original still holds its own against the remakes IMO. It's kinda like Tetris...you can dress it up to appeal to different subsets of your audience, but it's hard to make it indisputably better.

Is the 20th anniversary out on a different console than PSP? If not, there's a liar among us, because a PSP emu is impossible to get your hands on. And if it isn't, i demand to know where you got it.

I've played FF1 on a NES emu, on my PS2 (Origins), and on a GBA emu (what i voted for), and I couldn't get through it on any of the consoles because it sucked dick :(.

I had recently given all my consoles and games away, and kind of missed FF1, but I picked it up for my iPhone today. FF1, FF2 and Richard Garriot's Akalabeth: World of Doom - a phone full of retro RPG goodness. I lost interest in new games, anyway.

I seem to think (For one reason or another) That even though the graphics in DoS are far more superior, The original is better, Just because its... well... Original. But maybe thats just me? I dont know. Ive talked to a lot of people who say they would take the Original over DoS.

I recently discovered I could buy FF1 as an app for my phone! (Not a smartphone, just a normal Verizon phone with access to their applications downloads.)

It looks like the first remakes, though I'm not sure. Graphics are nice.

Anyway, that's what I'm playing now. It's great for killing time! Especially since I haven't played FF1 in YEARS.

Playing on the PSP at the moment... anyone know what the differences are between DoS and 20th Anniversary PSP? Aside from graphics, obviously.

I played it for years on NES as a kid but never made it further than the Temple of Fiends revisited; kept getting my butt kicked in there and eventually it got too depressing having to start all over again after a horrible death on the final floor. Beaten the DoS version dozens of times, mostly with weird challenge parties. Although I was sad to finally kill Chaos with one white mage and not be able to screenshot it. I play DoS on a GameBoy Micro the size of a credit card, hehe.

This is my first playthrough on the PSP and I just got slaughtered by Lich with a party of four BBs (edit: oops, they're apparently called Monks in this version). Ugh. I actually found this site the other day while Googling for his (its?) stats. Apparently bosses in the PSP version have insanely kicked up defense... my party was absolutely stomping on everything, killing monsters in a single hit, and I'm thinking I must be over-leveled. Then I get to Lich and suddenly I'm getting: 6hits! 6 damage! while he's hitting my entire party for 150+ each with LIT2 and FIR2 every other turn.

It's going to piss me off if I have to level grind to the point where every single monster in the game falls in a single hit just so that I'm big enough to survive the bosses. WHY is there such a huge defense discrepancy?!

I have the Game Boy Advance version somewhere. I should drag it out and actually finish it at some point, since I don't recall ever making it past, say, about halfway through the game. And that was a loooong time ago.

Not gonna lie, the main reason I was playing the game in the first place is cause of 8-Bit Theatre
