The Chinese New Year starts today. 2008 is the Year of the Rat.

What is your chinese zodiac sign? I was born in 1989 which was the year of the snake. :jess:

and if you're Chinese, Happy New Year! :)

I was born in 1989, but before Chinese New Year, and that makes me a dragon.

Now I'm going to celebrate Chinese New Year by listening to Enjoy Your Rabbit.

Tiger, rawr!

My family celebrates the New Year (Korean customs, not Chinese ones) on January 1st, even though a lot of people in the Korean community wait around for the Lunar New Year to start.

People get dressed up in traditional Korean outfits, eat the traditional rice cake soup, do the blessings, get gift money, and then we all sit around and play the traditional New Years games. New Years is probably the biggest Holiday for my family. It trumps Christmas and Thanksgiving and any birthdays. It's the one time everyone in the family gets together. Plus, it's when I get fistfuls of cash. I love it. :p

dragon represent 8)

I totally called it as year of the mouse like a couple of days before I knew it was the year of the rat. It came from being exposed to a million references of mice in books I was reading/etc though.

PG doesn't recognize his asian heritage. I know it, in the sense that I also know Pagan rituals. Incidentally thanks to a sort of societal chauvinism I see both as the same thing. They aren't, but that's my problem.

I was born in 1979 and thus I is are a ram.

Oh, horse? Okay. When it comes to the personalities, the snake is better fitting for me, but whatever. I guess it isn't always correct. :p

I am a dragon, that means if you mess with me I will crush you.

And if you are a chicken I will fry you and then eat you... if you could bread yourself first I would really appriciate it.

Year of the Fire Rabbit.

For the Lunar New Year, my Pure Land Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism profs got together and got the classes treats. :D (This works out since both classes are in the same room right after each other).

Gong Hay Fat Choy! (or whatever...)

I am an earth snake (89). Last night we had a nice celebration and pot luck, with a movie, at the kungfu school.

We were supposed to do a lion dance, but i think that was postponed.
