I've played final fantasy 10 many, many, many, MANY times and I just noticed in macalania right before the Al Bhed attack you with the anti-magic anti-summon thing, in Rin's travel agency there is a polar bear skin rug.... when the hell did final fantasy x have polar bears?!?! I mean you never see any actual animals from our animal kingdom but all of the sudden theres a polar bear! =[ I wanna battle a polar bear ;^;

Well... we do see dolphins and butterflies, and seagulls and fish in the game... And a dog... There could've been a bear around somewhere...

The Al Bhed hunted them to extinction. Either that or excessive Machina usage is causing Spiral Warming.

It's just a polar bear monster that never dissolved because they put it in a coma so it'll live on as a rug forever.

No no the Polar Bear is a hidden boss, its the strongest monster in the game. Thus the hides are rare... you know just like the cows in Diabolo.... Ill never look at the word "moo" the same again......

If you think about it, it makes sense that you wouldnt see or battle a polar bear because you never visit the north or south pole. But i bet some of those albhed have

Spiral Warming? Another attempt by the Yevon Priesthood to scare everyone about machina and Al Bhed terrorism!

Now what other world does that remind me of? (Oops was that too political?)

Well, most likely Polar Bears would live somewhere away civilisation. They wouldn't hang around humans - especially if they were hunted to make fur rugs. >_>

Plus, I suppose the presence of fiends would put them off entering certain areas.

You are confusing monsters and animals with fiends. Fiends are creatures born of pyreflies. They are not the only creatures in the world, most other creatures are simply not as hostile in Spira, likely due to the presence of fiends. Since fiends dissolve into pyreflies once destroyed, they cannot be used for food, so animals are likely hunted for meat and skins but are otherwise entirely unimportant.
