View Full Version : EoFF starts a club in Football Manager 2008 (See new thread)

That's soccer, to you Americans. Not NFL or anything.

I'm gathering interest to see who here would be interested in joining up a football club on Football Manager 2008 which I'll be managing. If there's enough interest, I'll take a random club, rename it to something to do with EoFF that we can decide on, replace a bunch of players with the EoFFers and see how things go. More details if I get enough interest! Go go go. Just copy/paste this and fill in the gaps if you are indeed interested, so uhm... yay.

That's cool - I can adjust everyone's age if need be, but I'll be starting in a low league because it's more fun to work your way up.

Job Preference (if you get one!): Scout. I doubt you'll get to the stage where any of us retire, though. xD
You can be player-scout if it gets to that.

Psy, you can have nicknames (a la Anderson/Ronaldo at United) so it's all good either way.

That's twelve players and I know Danielle is going to sign up later on. Not bad :D The name I'll probably use is Eyeson F.C. (unless anyone has a better suggestion). I want us to start in a lower league, and from my recollection it goes all the way down to Conference North. Would you guys be interested in starting there, or would you prefer to start in Conference National or League Two?

DK
02-13-2008, 11:45 AM
If you start that low you're eventually going to have to sell everyone because I don't think anyone will be good enough to compete in the higher leagues. Which would be dumb.

Loony BoB
02-13-2008, 12:10 PM
Knowing FM2008, I'm probably going to have to sell players regularly anyway. But I've got a few ideas of how to get around that.

1. We could have it so that players are consistently renamed - when they leave, we revert their name back to whatever it was before we 'took over' the club, and the person who 'owned' that player can pick a new player to put their name onto.

2. We have Dan Rai1, Dan Rai2, Dan Rai3, etc.

3. We rig it so they never want to leave and so that their potential is insanely high. Not sure if this will work, mind you.

EDIT: Rocket Edge: Which part of Ireland? Also, Psy already got #7 for a squad number so let me know if you want something else. :)

EDIT: We are currently a group of, on average, Loyal, Determined players who show strong Professionalism. Sportsmanship and Adaptability aren't too bad either. The ability to handle Pressure will need working on, and we tend to lack Ambition and Temperament.

Ah, Republic, then. :)

I've created a town called Eyeson at +53° 25' 23.94", -1° 45' 57.94", and we'll be called Eyeson F.C., locally nicknamed the Chocobos. I'm trying to think of a name for our stadium but all I've thought up so far is "General Gaming Stadium", which is pretty average. If you have a better idea, feel free to offer it. The Reserves have a stadium, too - Namingway's Hood.

Since nobody would know who we are, I found it fitting that our Morale, Reputation, Capacity and Potential Capacity etc. etc. etc. were all put in line with Accrington Stanley. We were founded in 2007, since this is the 2007-08 league we'll be starting off with. We are a Professional side owned by Sean Robinson, common name Cid.

Main Kit: Dark blue
Away Kit: Brown
Third Kit: White

Still need to do: Tactical Attributes, Staff & Players (most of it, anyway). Oh, and that whole "creating of the players" thing.

Oh, and we're taking the place of Dagenham & Redbridge. Sorry, Daggers.

1. kvlt
467 up, 25 down

Epitomising the musical ideals of sub-underground black metal - the kind of stuff that comes out in limited editions of 300 through vinyl-only labels based in a cave in Belarus. The exact requirements of kvltness vary depending on who you talk to, but usually involve icy, impenetrable production, black-and-white cover art, and concepts drawn from black magic, pagan myths or out-and-out nihilism.

Like anyone who takes art seriously these days, kvltists are the target of much mockery even from fellow extreme metal fans.

"This new Nattefrost album is kvlt as fuck!"

Okay guys, I've got the club sorted out. Time for players and staff...

Let me know what player type you want to be. The first people to post will get the best player of their type. The options are (using the best players - current ability-wise)...

Goalkeeper - smittenkitten
Goalkeeper
Defender (Center) - Heath
Defender (Center) - Old Manus
Defender (Center)
Defender (Center)
Defender (Right, Center) - Ouch!
Defender/Wingback (Left) - Cz

Midfielder (Center)
Attacking Midfielder (Left) - blim

We'll be aiming to have a 4-4-2 side with a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Striker and one other player on the bench.

By the way: Feel free to offer up ideas on how we will deal with players during transfer windows. There are loads of possibilities.

The problem, if you're not aware of it, is that if we come to a transfer window we may find ourselves with players who are wishing to leave the club or are no longer good enough to stay. This will obviously include our players. The options are...

1) Allow people to 'move' between players. At each transfer window, we will all have the chance to have our existing player renamed to something else and for ourselves to take over a different/new player within the squad, which will obviously be renamed.

2) New players brought in must be renamed to something such as "BoB-2", almost like a machine being named. This is the 'new model of BoB' or something. :p

3) We edit the existing players so that they are no longer crap or no longer want to leave our club.

4) You guys come up with a better idea.

Let me know what you think! So far I'm thinking I'll go with option #1. It will make transfer windows even more interactive!

DK
02-14-2008, 12:35 PM
#2 is a no for me. #1 or #3 would work fine, but #1 would probably be the least effort.

Loony BoB
02-14-2008, 12:39 PM
If we go for #1, I'm half tempted to rename the old players to banned/inactive EoFF once-regulars.

EDIT: Further updates for those who didn't already know: General Gaming Stadium has been renamed to Aiyonfield. Our NPC manager is Paul Ince, who we stole from the MK Dons. Obviously this won't matter a huge deal because I'll take over the manager position. Graham Souness is now manager of the MK Dons (in place of Ince). He speaks fluent Swahili and doesn't do much else. The reserves are now known as The Failridden instead of the main team. I was considering filling it with banned members, but to be honest it's too much work considering I'd have to create the reserves (they are otherwise randomly generated in FM2008, I believe)...

DK
02-14-2008, 12:41 PM
The only problem with #1 that I can see will be the different stats of the players coming in. So maybe you will have to do a little bit of editing after all.

Loony BoB
02-14-2008, 01:00 PM
Hmm, fair point. Maybe I'll just end up setting it up so that I only change names and leave all other attributes of a player. It would make it less personal, but at the same time it would make things a lot smoother and should hopefully remain just as interesting.

EDIT: Okay, here's a massive spanner in the works for us all. You can't edit a saved game in FM2008. :( There goes that idea. Damn.

blim
02-14-2008, 02:30 PM

I cannot see 3 working as it is very hard to make players want to stay

Eh, can you not just edit it in the database? Works for me when i create a super-brentford. Are you using the right database when starting the game?

Also, i want £1500 p.w. or a transfer to Brentford

Loony BoB
02-14-2008, 02:41 PM
You can edit the database, yes. But you can't edit saved games, and (to my knowledge, I'll double check this using my old game) you can't access databases that reflect the saved game through the editor - you can only access the starting database.

blim
02-14-2008, 02:46 PM
Right, i understand what you mean now. The only option i can see then is to start higher (i.e. Championship) with players that will cut it in the premiersh*t, maybe editing so they all have the club as their favourite to encourage them to stay.

02-14-2008, 02:57 PM

Does our club have any rivals?

Whatever you put there will appear as the player's name in-game, and you can change it any time you like. It doesn't actually change the player's name in the database, but it's to all intents and purposes the same thing.

EDIT: Further updates for those who didn't already know: General Gaming Stadium has been renamed to Aiyonfield. Oh no.

You shut up. It was my idea and it is genius. EoFFC playing at Aiyonfield with the fans in the Wasim Akram stand belting out "AND YOU'LL NEEEEVEEER WARK, ALOOOOONE". There is no better name for our home ground.

Ouch!

Defender (Right, Center) still open?

My brother just came into the room I am in to tell me that on his game of FM, Casey Keller just got sacked as Everton manager.

I...I still don't know what to make of it.

I don't think that's the last point we'll be conceding this season.

Quite right, too. If you knew the lengths I was willing to go to for this to happen, you would love me more than you know!

I have to say I was indeed shocked at how far Dan was willing to go.

And Cz, you are right. <3 Awesome, that sorts everything out. Now I can get back to planning it again instead of going back to my old Albion Rovers game. xD

I don't think there's an option for that, so you're safe. :p

EDIT: Added Cz & Ouch! to their respective positions. Right now our side would look something like this...

Dan advised me to. The whole 'Alan Shearer #9' thing gave him a hint. ;)

Dan is win. Also, back in the day when I used to play football I used to play upfront. ;D

Just so you know, the best strike partnerships shower together after each game. :jess:

edit: or use those bigass baths. I'm easy on it.
