I recently read the Wikipedia entry for the FFXII characters. In the section on Balthier, it states that he changed his name. I've played the game through (almost a year ago), but I don't remember the game explicitly telling us his real name. I was just wondering if it was during the cut scene at Phon Coast where Balthier tells Ashe that Dr. Cid is his father.

His name is Ffamran, it even says so in the Wiki entry.

I know - I read the Wiki entry. What I'm wondering is where in the game it tells us that.

Jules calls him that when you go to Archades. Cid might actually call him that, too.

Wow, you should of been more attentive and listened closely. They mention his name at key moments in the story, you don't forget those things.

I played through the game twice(once in original, once in International)and I never recalled that name o.O

Balthier has a lot of backstory that comes up in dribs and drabs - like Dr Cid having his son made a Judge, a role that he held temporarily before fleeing Archades. Taking on a pseudonym might be a fairly common practice for Sky Pirates, since Reddas did the same.

Dr. Cid and Jules call him Ffamran, the others call him Balthier and Fran never uses his name in the game, so maybe she calls him Ffamran or Balthier? who knows,

I was so busy grinding that i totally forgot it.TOO... MUCH... INFORMATION!

Oh... level grinding, I assume. Chugging through battles and side quests... yeah, it can be easy to forget snippets of FFXII's plot if you get diverted from the main story by protracted adventuring.

I did not seem to catch this part of the game. Balthier Bunansa is truly named Ffamran Bunansa, or was his pseudonym without a last name?

He was born FFamram Bunansa and changed his name to Balthier after he decided to be a sky pirate. I also doubt he kept his Bunansa last name as it would be a dead giveaway as to who was his father... I think his pirate pseudonym was just "Balthier"

Ouch!

Balthier's middle name is Mid? Wow, I didn't catch that one. There's alot more FF references in this game than I thought the first time. I remember hearing one of the airships in the final battle being called "Galuf-Val" last time I played.

I didn't notice his real name being mentioned either. Probably shouldn't have turned the subtitles off - the Olde English was laid on so thickly, it was very easy for a "Ffamram" to slip through unnoticed and dismissed as part of the usual unintelligible babbling.

Maybe he changed his name because "Ffamram and Fran" sounds a little odd :D

The subtitles are a big help, and FFXII has some of the most amazingly beautiful game dialogue ever written. It rivals Vagrant Story for its poetic value, and surpasses it at times too. The titles make it a whole lot easier to follow....
