dunno if any of you have noticed or disgussed this yet but here goes
who thinks final fantasy 8 and 3 are set on the same planet?
the geographical layout is spookily similar and then theres the creation myth of the great hyne
could that be the boss from ff3?
any ideas anyone?

probably
like 7 and 10 hae been confirmed as the same planet
but 3 and 8's world map layout is verry similar no?
7 & 10 have not been confirmed to be the same planet, the only thing remotely confirmed is that the people of 7 & 10 share the same lineage, originating on Spira and migrating to Gaia...
most FF's may take place in the same galaxy but not on the same planet, though several planets may share simmilar geographical formations...

Yeah they were probably two different planets :p
The name Shinra would have long been forgotten by the time the continents moved around like that!

I think that the developers for the games take some stylistic inspiration from previous titles. Final Fantasy IX was the biggest example of this because it drew from concepts from all of the previous Final Fantasy games.

I'm in the camp of 'do you know how freaking hard it is to draw landmasses?'

Really the only FF that has any REAL connection is X and X-2, and the whole Ivalice/tactics franchise. The rest are separate worlds and any references to others are just nothing more then just nods to the past.
well IX was more of a tribute to the S/NES & PSX(PSone) generations of FF anyway, so naturaly it drew from all the past titles prior to it... basicaly one final game for the whiny old-school elitist that complained endlessly about how futuristic styles like VII & VIII were destroying the franchise, though honestly VII was more of a different spin on steam-punk than being futuristic... though it did turn out to be a decent game (despite it's many flaws) that turned a lot of people onto the series, and hopefully by knowing it's a tribute they will seek out the inspirations from the previous titles it drew from... anyway designing landmasses can't be that hard considering Maxis has made a game engine that allows people at home to create any landmass they want in a little game called SimCity4...

i think they could jus draw any old random lookin sland and call it a continent
3 and 8's layout is jus too similar not to be the same place

erm... did you not even read my previous post? yes he said Ivalice that does not mean to say he meant XII like I said before I thought he meant Final Fantasy Tactic's/Advance and War of the Lions

The Ivalice Alliance includes the following games:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Vagrant Story
As you can see, mentioning Ivalice includes all of the above titles as a part of the marketing campaign of the Ivalice Alliance.
At the topic at hand, I am certain that the developers only sought to provide references to previous Final Fantasy games rather than interconnecting the worlds or else this would have been addressed in one of the Ultimania guides or it would have been marketed when Final Fantasy III was released on the Nintendo DS because of the affinity that Square Enix has for franchises, lately.
