The first three are some of my favourite PS1 titles. Mainly the first two. Nemesis was great but got boring near the end of the game when your playing as Carlos. Code Veronica was ok. Resident Evil 4 was good but Im a RE traditionalist and prefer the first three titles more. While Resident Evil 4 had superior gameplay it lost the atmosphere that was present in the first three titles. It also pissed me off that half the game was you escorting a useless human being.

Im such a loser I did a speedrun of the first game. I was proud of it but it was decimated by other speedruns online.

yea, i would agree that, although it has good gameplay, there is nothing spooky about number 4. its just a regular action game

I enjoyed RE4 more than the previous games in the series. If atmosphere has to be sacrificed for a game I want to come back to then so be it.

They're different kinds of scary. The originals are more of a "Oh, Jesus, I hope there isn't a zombie hiding behind this corner" kind of scary. 4 is more of a "HOLY :skull::skull::skull::skull: A GIANT TENTACLE JUST CAME SHOOTING OUT OF THAT GUY'S NECK" kind of scary. :P

You've got it all wrong. Resident Evil 4 is a comedy (http://fromearth.net/LetsPlay/RE4/chapter1.html).

I love the main RE games. Well, and Code Veronica. Though I have a hard time going back to the old ones after playing 4.

But, you know... Okay, I never thought I would agree with anything X-Play ever said, but they once stated "There is no reason this game can't be twice as well written as it is." It was about a different game, but it's true. What's with all the hammy dialogue. I could write better :skull::skull::skull::skull: than that.

I own RE1, 2, and 4. All awesome games

Like roto said, comparing 4 to the others isn't going to get you anywhere, but in terms of 'FUCK YEAH I JUST KNEECAPPED A MONK WITH A MOTHERFUCKING SHOTGUN THEN SUPLEXED HIM AND HIS HEAD SPLATTED OVER THE FLOORS' value RE4 just snuffs it as my favourite one.

RE2 was similarly awesome and my second favourite, but giving you a small army's worth of handgun ammo right at the start made it a bit too easy.

RE1 is the only game thats ever given me the chills (I haven't played silent hill yet lol), probably because it was so damn hard. I got as far as the catacombs before realising I'd missed getting the DOOM BOOK I at the start of the game, and had to run the half mile back to the mansion and look through every single room for it, being forced to kill every monster that was in there.

So yeah, I feel like getting RE3 now

Resident Evil 4 is the best game in the series in my opinion. I still have yet to buy it but I've finished it countless times...like 5.

The remake of the first was amazing because it played up the tension so much and added amazing graphics to it. It was one of the few games that was hard for me to play just because I felt like a nervous wreck the whole time - I knew the layout of the original game, but it changes that up a lot (especially with scripted events), and you really have to dodge the zombies actively or else face a crimson head later in the game.

Resident Evil is a brilliant series. Still gotta play CV, though. It's the only one that's evaded me all these years.

It used to be a great series, The game died when they shoved out 4, they should of left it at CV, with UC tieing up the lose ends.

I like RE 1 and 2, 4 not so much I'm not really sure why though I just didn't like it like the others. I own 1, 2, CV, 4, and I also own outbreak and outbreak file #2. Outbreak and outbreak 2 were kinda pitiful compared to all the other games really but hey it gives me something to do and the levels are short so I kill time quickly.

No. Really. It's immensely popular. Whether you like it or not is up to you. The fact remains that it's the most critically acclaimed and highest selling entry in the series. So successful that the next Resident Evil game is continuing to use the formula. You and your friends can keep on disliking it. The vast majority of people say otherwise, and no amount of whining is going to change that.

Where are you living? Fairy Tale land? Have you ever listened to anyone? The critics loved alot of crap, And yet RES4 Is slated by the Resident evil fans, Its often dubbed as not a actual Resident Evil Game at all, so you can your friends can belive whatever you want, it wont change the fact that if you get off your butt and actually READ other peoples views, its really not that popular.

B) There not the masses
C) Some critics praised FFX-2, You are NOT reading people posts before demanding everyones wrong but you, really READ peoples posts threw.

If you'll pay attention, you'll notice that each page has two numbers. One that's an average score from a variety of diffierent critics, and one that's an average score from anyone who can be assed to give their opinion.

I'm not saying everyone is wrong but me. I'm saying everyone is right but you. There's a difference.

Also, learn English.

That made no sence, People who have to argue and be right no matter what are just the most irritating people in society, There are MANY other people out there who dont like RES4, So Everyone but me is not right, its you who is wrong, But then I dont think Noobs really get complex things review and reality.

Roto13

Well, try to wrap your brain around this. The number of people who think Resident Evil 4 is a great game is a lot bigger than the number of people who think it's a bad game. This is reality. To deny that it's the most popular entry in the series is deluding yourself.

Wuggly Blight

Thats a common mistake among noobs who just follow the magazines who HAVE to hype up games, some of us who have spent a decade in Resident Evil fan groups know common REAL views much better, and that view IS, its not a real resident evil game, no fear factor that should of had a diffrent title.

Resident Evil 4 was a good game, but I don't think it's of the same genre as the rest of the series. I was never spooked in that game like I was in 2, a little bit of 1, and 3. I have a feeling that 5 will be the same the trailer is gorgeous though, but I don't really agree with controversy among some blacks that say that the game's racist and stereotyping my people.

Roto and Wuggly, stop sniping at each other. Thanks in advance!

I've beaten 1, 2 and 4. I liked 4. I think it can be scary at times, mostly because of those mental monks and their chanting. And the way they'd always, always let out a god damn sinister and evil laugh when they came up behind you unseen to grab you.

4 was probably less scary than 1 and 2, though, probably because it was less restricted. I thought they did rely on too many "jump" moments in the earier games though. After a while I could just predict what was going to happen next. Oh boy, a loose ceiling vent. I wonder if a Licker will jump do- ah yep, there we are. Nice try, punk.

Resident Evil 4 drew in a bigger crowd because it was more action oriented. Alot of the people who played Resident Evil 4 probably hadnt played any previous Resident Evil titles. Its no surprise that most people will say its the best. Go to any Resident Evil message board and ask long time fans whats their favourite title is. Your unlikely to see a swarm of votes for Resident Evil 4 like you do elsewhere.

I really enjoy playing the earlier RE games. Out of all of them, the two Outbreak games remain my favourite. Although I never played them online, I loved being able to play as an 'ordinary' citizen instead of the typical well trained police officer or S.T.A.R.S member.

The fact each character had specific strengths and weaknesses made for very challenging gameplay on the harder modes as well.

As for RE4, I suppose I'll be flamed for saying this but...it is rather overrated. I was very disappointed with it because it just didn't seem like a RE game. That, and it just seemed like a cheap way to draw in people to the series - too much action and too little fear. It didn't even have any 'jumpy' bits, that the other RE games did.

I just hope RE5 will be as good as it looks. I do have suspicions that it will be just like RE4 though - lots of action, shooting and one liners...and little to no scares.

I'd have to say that 4 is the best*, though I have yet to play CODE: Veronica (which I've heard good things about) or any offshoots other than Umbrella Chronicles.

*This represents the above posters opinion, and in no way is an attempt to state truth. If you feel like nitpicking and saying that the poster is trying to say that 4 being the best is a fact because he did not us "in my opinion", you may want to examine your life and change some things. It is implied that it his opinion, so don't get snarky and try to act smart. Some restrictions apply. Void where prohibited.

I just miss the good old days in Raccoon City. A shame Capcom never got around to making Outbreak File 3. I guess the days of RE are numbered though - it's basically just a mix of metal gear solid and alien nowadays. >_>

For God's sake, why did I know this would happen?

This is why I tend to avoid the Game Opinion threads.

I played Resident Evil 4 for the first time yesterday (I'm borrowing it from a friend, because I didn't want it bad enough to buy), and thought it was okay so far (given, I'm not very far). It's the first game in the series that I have played. To be honest, I don't see what sets it apart from other shooters other than the fact that the game is meant to be scarier than most. To be totally honest, I don't like the controls.

BUT...shooting someone in the head makes their head explode. I lol'ed and yelled 'YOUR HEAD ASPLODE' ala Strong Bad. :p
