Lately I hear people calling the Final Fantasy VI advance for gba a remake.
Am i the only one who doesnt think this is a remake?
I think its more a port than a remake, at best maybe an 'expansion'. All thats happened is there are a few extra dungeons and a retranslation. I wouldnt even say the graphics got updated, just a few brighter palletes. Thats not to say its not great and all though

To me a remake means that you change a majority of the game, like all the FFI remakes. Not just have stuff 'added'

Does anyone think this way or do you imagine the music thats playing in Gau's father's house when you read my rambling?

I dunno, I consider it a DEMAKE.

Only because I like the SNES script better and scenes like Celes getting smacked were taken away. Also, Bright colors suck and the music also lost some quality.

I'd call it a slight update at best.

It's not a remake. It's a port with extra features.

It's Final Fantasy 6 and it's portable. Now shut up and enjoy.

Im glad people agree with me, I only wanted to discuss this because of the "All the older ff's I-VI received remakes so FFVII should get one" reason i keep hearing and i thought maybe I was the noob. I was getting abit annoyed and wanted to make sure before i say something dumb

Now i have to go correct people on the internet. It's a tough job but someones gotta do it!

edit: on that note i also assume that everyone doesnt regard the ps1 version as a remake either...

It is not a remake. If it were it would not make use of it's original skin.
It is a port, just like the GBA. Just with slight coding delays. AKA, loading slowdowns.

I wish they had included the completion percentage for each character when you beat the game, like in the PSOne version. I enjoyed having that stat to look over.

There hasn't been a remake of VI. A remake is a game based on another game that's built from the ground up, like the Final Fantasy I-IV remakes. They didn't do that with VI Advance.

^ exactly, V and VI are just ports, but Avarice might be right in calling them "DEmakes" in that not only the music quality a little lower, but I know they cut out part of the battle background to fit it on the screen, in addition to taking out a scene. I saw a few vids of it and the graphics, pixels and such, look a little worse. Then again, those are videos on the web, I'd have to see the actual game running on a GBA/GC/DS. NOT to say it isn't bad, I couldn't compare because I haven't played V and VI advance, but I know that the reaction overall has been positive.

The graphics are alright as long as you don't mind them being brighter than normal. One of my biggest peeves though is that FFVI has a WONDERFUL soundtrack, but the quality of the music is cut down and it makes me feel like I'm listening to the songs through a midi-player on my Windows 98 computer.

Seeing as I'm a Locke/Celes/Rachel fan girl to the max, I felt that the scene where Celes was being beat by the soldiers was like a foreshadowing to what we were going to learn about Locke and Rachel later on in the game. Rachel was killed by the soldiers, and I feel that Celes getting beaten was like a weird "looking back" moment, just as at the end of the game Celes almost falling to her doom to get the bandana only with Locke saving her. The beginning of Celes and Locke starts almost exactly where Rachel and Locke ended, with the military hurting Celes/Killing Rachel, not standing there lecturing.

As petty as that sounds, I felt that scene had more to the story and shouldn't have been taken away.

I-IV have been remade, well IV is almost done being remade. After that we may get an FFV and VI remake. But until then, who knows.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

Almost done? It's been out since December 20th in Japan. I wouldn't call that "almost done".:D

I consider the Gameboy Advance titles for the Super Nintendo era of Final Fantasy to be ports. Of course, Square Enix adheres itself to different standards of Squaresoft, so there are updates to the translation and content as long as they do not take up too much company resources.
