So how good are you at using your computer without a functional mouse? (As in the mouse doesn't operate at all and it acts like it's disconnected)

Compared to other mouseless computer users I'm probably somewhat better than average. However, I do get stuck on things like the login screen and trying to add a table to a Microsoft Word document.

I can operate adequately without a mouse if the need arises.

How do you live without a mouse? That's just awful!

Keyboard shortcuts win hard. So, basically, almost everything, outside of RTS.

Why even bother? You can get a USB optical mouse for, like, $10.

I can just about manage, but it's not pretty.

Oh it's wonderful. It's annoying to reach away from the keyboard even if it's just to a touchpad (this is exacerbated if the laptop is in my lap).

When I have the exquisite opportunity to use Microsoft Office 2007, I find that since it's freaking weird that I do most of the basic actions by long-remembered keyboard shortcuts and flail when I have to do something that I don't know a shortcut for (center and merge anyone?).

mice and pointing devices are handy for pages with a million links. I get tired of holding down tab pretty quickly xD

Now for the converse; how well could you guys survive sans keyboard?

If I use my Wii, I don't need a mouse or a keyboard.:p

I didn't even know you could :jess:! I'm quite inadequate that way.

I'm awful without a mouse. I can shut down the computer, or flick between already open windows without and that's just about it. Luckily, I use a laptop so if my mouse decided to die then I could just use my touchpad. :jess:

The Wii-Mote acts like a Mouse anyway. The difference is that when you stop using it, the cursor moves. :p

The keyboard is for the command line you Neanderthals! I can do fine with the keyboard, but I'd much rather use a mouse to navigate through the gui.

I wouldn't be able to get past the login. Apparently, the mouse doesn't show up at all, and I HAVE to hit Enter in order to proceed to my settings. So, yeah. That's what I get for using Microsoft's OSes.

yeah and you couldn't use the onscreen keyboard either :O that's what you get for using a login screen!

Actually, it wasn't by choice. My cousin was trying to install a wireless card on the computer, and he never finished. For some reason, it permanently disabled the "skip login screen" function for single profile computers.

And it's not even the profile screen, with the "choose user names" or anything. It's the big black screen with HP_Admin login. My computer has been, and is being treated as though it were part of a multi-computer network, which it isn't.

I would get by well without either, although I wouldn't exactly enjoy it xD

On my laptop, I have fingerprint login, so I don't need the keyboard there. On my desktop, I have screen keyboard software that came with my drawing tablet which is visible on the login screen.

As for no mouse, if there's a shortcut I don't know I can always use Mouse Keys or whatever it's called, where you use the numpad as a mouse. :)

Pretty well I suppose. I had to get used to my laptop's touchpad for a few years before I got a mouse.

I have had to function without a mouse, and believe me, it's preferable to not having a keyboard.

I once had my computer break so in the mean time I reset up my old computer which hardly worked, but would give me internet, so I managed to navigate online by use of key board for a full 3 days. Getting around this place was insane on key board I tell you!

I'm pretty good without a mouse.

In fact, I read this entire thread, posted this post, and then edited it using only my keyboard.
Go me!

Well I'm viewing this thread from a Linux terminal in Links. :p

Most of my time at work I'm either SSHed into a Solaris box, or just writing code in Vim, so I spend a lot of time without a mouse.

I rawk at it! My computer back at my Mum's doesn't have a mouse and I could still listen to music and do my homework. I got use to it after a while but woudld still prefer a mouse, much easier. ^__^

I've had to go without a mouse many times and, for a while there, keyboard as well. The keyboard is hardest to be without because if the mouse dies, I can just use tab and such to get windows open. But without keyboard, I have to draw pix in messenger windows to let people know my keyboard sucks D=

I'd probably have to do a lot of copying/pasting to be able to make posts here. I'd probably also have a hard time finding some letters to copy like Q, Z, and other rare letters.

I'd be awful. I'd get by, just about, but I wouldn't enjoy the semi-struggle I'd have with it and would just find myself opening notepad and writing the sentence "I want my mouse" repeatedly. I'm useless with keyboard shortcuts beyond the basics because, put simply, I've never needed them.

I would rather have a keyboard and no mouse than a mouse and no keyboard. Over the years of computer and Internet usage, I have learned a lot of keyboard shortcuts which, potentially, make the mouse obsolete in some ways.
