statues on surface world

I am just wondering if any has seen the statues on the surface world.

There are a narrow parthway on the continent, with 2 statues that stand between your path. There are many sets of statues guarding the path.

When I approach them, two sets of statues disappear, but when I try to walk through the next set of statues, I see a red flash, and my entire party gets killed.

So I was just wondering how I get past the statues, and what is beyond?

I won't spoil it to you, but if you go on with the game you'll get past the statues in due time. Just keep on doing all the quests. ;) What is beyond them is also a big spoiler. But don't worry, you can't avoid going through there, so...
