it cannot be espers because they appear 13 times throughout the game. for this same reason, guest characters, hunts, allies, and spells can be basically ruled out. NPC's dont fight with you, so they are out. Bosses only apper once, cannot be magiked away, and dont fight with you, so they are out. Quickenings can appere over and over, the same goes for concurrences and esper special attacks. Perhaps there are exceptions, or some kind of semi-rare occurence?

Appearing in 1, no wait 2 others- It's a stone that holds espers right? FF IX and VII have summon stones and materia so that kinda works except I don't know if other games had summoning stones too.
