I don't really agree. There's a lot of mish-mash from future cut-scenes that is irrelevant at that point

its easily the best FF intro
possibly the best for any game ever
anyone else notice usualy the evn numbered games have good intros and the odd numbers are ...welll.....less good?

Maybe they got the idea from the Star Trek movies. Although honestly I can't say FFII was one of the all time greats. Conversely, FFVII had one of the best pull-backs ever.

I found it very enjoyable and epic in scope, especially with the music. I agree it makes more sense if you've played the game before. But I always thought that Squall is somehow experiencing these flash-forwards, so the confusion may be intentional.

As much as I like seeing pretty-boys get their faces messed up by sharp objects, I'm not a fan of "Liberi Fatali" or FFVIII music in general. My all-time favorite opening (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xXfYbXnhM_g) comes from Wild ARMs 2 -- give me some lively guitar licks and brass over some soulless choirs anyday. :p

It definitely gave FE a lot of food for thought.

Final Fantasy XII topped it.

There's something to be said about Lost Odyssey's introduction sequence, too, what with the seamless transition into gameplay and all.

It's a neat wee video, and it introduces the central characters and themes effectively, while ignoring the majority of the main cast:p

I like how it includes, and foreshadows, some of the major events from later in the game - like Rinoa's prophetic dream, and her 'journey' to find Squall after he gets lost in compressed time.

I love it, I pretty much fell in love with FFVIII the moment I saw the intro. The music, the way it's all edited together, and the way it ends - after seeing it for the first time I knew I was going to like FFVIII. Did I mention how much I like Liberi Fatali....

Ouch!

Very much agreed on both accounts.

I think that Final Fantasy VIII has one of the most dramatic opening sequences in a video game. It would benefit heavily from a remake or a touch up of graphics in a future port or remake.

Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec added a lot of weight to the introduction and I doubt that it would be as memorable as it is without that song. There is something about the strange Gregorian chanting and the timing of the full motion video sequences that burns it into your mind.

I still don't think that Final Fantasy VIII's ending has been topped, though.

I like the opening with the credits, militaristic music, and dramatically-framed monochrome still-shots of each character. The one with the pretentious Latin chanting and flower petals morphing into white feathers and "I'll be here...so...if I'm here...you...come here...here...so...I promise" is pretty awful, though.

"I'll be here...so...if I'm here...you...come here...here...so...I promise"This is not similation. Get ready to destoroy the enemy. Target for the weak points of f**kin' machine. Do your best you have ever done.

The promise only makes sense after youve finished the game, so that was weird at first..

but the rest was bloody awsome indeed

FFVIII's opening actually reminds of the opening of Suikoden III (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIpAkXA6I2c), which is my favorite of the series so far.

It's got a great combination of images, words, and especially music, coupled with 'who the heck are all these people?' moments if you haven't played through the game yet.

I think VIII has one of the best intros and endings in the series, if not the best. some of the fmv was cliche and over-dramatic, but those have always been important in FF.

Indeed, FF8's introduction is undisputedly the greatest of eternity.

I love all the knuckle-draggers and mouth-breathers who say, "The intro makes no sense." Of course it doesn't make sense. Yet. By show of hands, who watched the intro and thought to themselves, "OHHH, I get it!!! That sorceress wants to use time compression, this guy falls in love with that chick, and all the characters have a connection via an orphanage." The producers and writers did that on purpose. It forces you to want to figure out exactly what the hell is going on. Hook, line, and sinker. If you knew what was going to happen, why would you continue the game?

But then, they gave us little choice except to be aware of the romantic angle, even months before the game's release...

i want to know any guy or chick if its your thing who watched the intro and didnt think "hey that chick with the dark dress is hot"

Edea is hot. I wish I could look that hot at her age (whatever her real age is) without plastic surgery.

Now, as for the intro itself, I loved Liberi Fatali, and used to think it was the best intro. But then FFXII came out and its intro made me fangasm. But I still love Liberi Fatali.

My second favorite!

My favorite is FFX (...but I count everything up to getting swallowed by Sin as the intro).

Although this opening did give me much hope. But it was dashed by the rest :(

Yes. I agree. It ends up becoming overly dramatic and memorable, and that can end up being a good thing or a bad thing for some people.

I like the opening that you mentioned, too, but I didn't like the music for it that much as it pertains to its place in the game.

Oh yes! And the intro music rocked hardcore, it can totally get even a not-RPG fan to play it.

While no where near the best, it was an alright intro.

FF IX, PErsona 3, Wild Arms 2 and 3, all leave it in the dust though.

I'd list more, but I think thats good for now. :p
