- The only member of ZZ Top without a beard has the second name Beard.
- The phrase "rule of thumb" comes from a law in England stating you couldn't strike your wife with anything larger than your thumb
- In a similar vein, giving someone the "cold shoulder" refers to when knights had the right to shelter and food from any house or manor they visited. If the host wanted the knight to leave, they would leave the meat portion of whatever food they served cold. Hence you literally gave someone the cold shoulder
