What does your first name mean and what country and/or name does it originate from?

My name means "daughter" in Hindi which is pretty lame, but true. Of course, the country it originates from is India, but I always thought it originated from a Russian name.

Dennis is a male first name derived from the Greco-Roman name Dionysius meaning "servant of Dionysus", the Thracian god of wine, which is ultimately derived from the Greek Dios (Διος, "of Zeus") combined with Nysos or Nysa (Νυσα), where the young god was raised.

My parents just picked it cause it was short, and I have a tricky last name

When used as a first name instead of a nickname, Gaby is, according to most naming sites/book, a masculine name. It is short for Gabriel, which means "strong man of God" in Hebrew.

Since my brother is the one who suggested my name, he is to blame for naming his little sister with a guy's name. I have considered changing it to "Gabrielle" legally, but it's expensive, there's too much paperwork involved, and one of my mother's brothers is named Gabriel.

I'll go look that up, but I think this is some kind of ploy to get everybody's First Name. Here's the specs on it according to 27,000 Baby Names, Meanings and Origins at Baby Names World (http://www.babynamesworld.com)

Nicolas
Origin: Greek
Meaning: Victory of the People

Nico (My Nick-Name)
Origin: Greek
Meaning: Victory of the People

I honestly don't think this site is very accurate. It claims Nico is normally used in Dutch and English speaking countries, but I distinctly remember my Father telling me "Nico" was a very common name in Spain and Italy.

The boy's name Dominic \d(o)-mi-nic\ is pronounced DAH-ma-nik. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "lord". Saint Dominic was the founder of an important monastic order. Appropriate for a child born on Sunday, "the Lord's day"

What wikipedia said:
Kristian/Christian is a popular first name and surname in Northern Europe. The use of Kristian/Christian as a personal name derives from its use to describe followers of Christianity. "Christian" can also mean "Christ Believer". [1] Today in Europe—though not the United States—it is almost exclusively used as a male name, but in the 17th and 18th centuries it was a popular female first name in Scotland. Female versions of the name include Christine, Christina, Kristen, Kristin, and Kirsten. Holders of the name Christian may go by the nicknames or shortened forms "Chris," "Chrissy", "Xian" or "Kissa" (in Norwegian).

I personally think it's cool that my name is unisex.

My name is Indian, and my parents have said it means "as delicate as a rosebud" :Oo:

Wikipedia says this:

"Komal is an ancient and traditional Indian and Pakistani name, most commonly taken to mean 'delicate' or 'gentle'. It is a popular female name as it contains many of the qualities Indian women so admire. This name is increasingly a unisexual name, with lots of boys using this name in recent years. However, its meaning and qualities remain typically feminine. Pureness, innocence, beauty, sweetness of nature and gentleness are a few of those qualities. The name Komal is also used in some parts of India to name a flower. The English counterpart of this flower is the Lily of the Valley. Komal is now more often used in northern or western parts of India, the name taken by remmenants of the Aryans. The name was brought over from Persia and is a popular Persian name also. In the discarded caste system of India, the name Komal was considered to be a high-class name used by the nobility - Kshatriyas and Brahmins. Komal is a very rare name. Only a few people have that name in the world except India."

Andy Warhol girl called Nico, anyone? She probably popularised (?) the name for a while in England and America at least, possibly in Europe.

I'll give you a hint to my name. I don't like to use it on the interwebs because it's very unusual. When you look it up on wikipedia, you don't get the name, the page what comes up is A TYPE OF SNAKES, THE GENUS OF WHICH IS MY NAME. THOMAS

Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, French, German, Dutch, Scandinavian, Greek, Biblical
Other Scripts: Θωμας (Greek)
Pronounced: TAHM-as (English), TOM-as (English), to-MA (French), TO-mahs (German, Dutch), tho-MAHS (Greek) [key]
Greek form of the Aramaic name Te'oma which meant "twin". In the New Testament this is the name of the apostle who doubts the resurrected Jesus. According to tradition he was martyred in India. Famous bearers of this name include philosopher and theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas, philosopher Thomas Hobbes, inventor Thomas Edison, American president Thomas Jefferson, and novelist Thomas Hardy.

Though they did miss out the Welsh version; Tomos.

SAMUEL

Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Biblical
Pronounced: SAM-yoo-el (English), SAM-yool (English) [key]
From the Hebrew name שְׁמוּאֵל (Shemu'el) which could mean either "name of God" or "God has heard". Samuel was the last of the ruling judges in the Old Testament. He anointed Saul to be the first king of Israel, and later anointed David. A famous bearer was the American author Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the pen name Mark Twain.

I'd rather not reveal my surname here, but it's apparently something that was given to people who made red and purple dyes.
