When you look at all the hardships Cloud had to go through, and how he overcame them (not the least of which was a life-threatening disease), and how Zack never had to go through any of them, it makes you wonder whether or not Zack would've choked under pressure had he been the one going through those same hardships Cloud went through.

Which is why I say Cloud's the better hero. Zack had it pretty easy.

Though Cloud overcomes more issues, I feel many of them are his own personal problems whereas Zack gets dumped on. Zack, to me, is just a more likable character than Cloud and besides, I always prefer tragic heroes over regualar ones. :cool:

Im really undecided which i know is a bit of a cop out,
I really like cloud because of his attictude, the struggles hes had to over come but as somebody else has already said Zack is much more likeable. He has a better personality than Cloud.

However since he's not an option, I think Cloud. FFVII follows his development as an individual from someone struggling to deal with his past and his emotions to someone who is able to be confident in himself, to understand himself and to fight for what is right. Initially he fights to keep himself near a link he has to his past (Tifa) and out of revenge (Sephiroth) but eventually he grows and takes those and is willing to fight to save the planet and to save humanity. It's quite an amazing development really. I think that's one of the real qualities of hero, not only someone that fights for what is right, but someone who knows why they are fighting and is able to protect everyone who needs protecting.

I'm going to go with Cloud, like someone else said him overcoming all the crap he did. Most memorable heroes arent perfect, many times they have a flaw that they must either overcome and be lost because of. Clouds flaw was his past, and because he was able to overcome it so well, and not only remain sane, but sane enough to STILL go and save the world... makes him a better hero than Zack

Not really true. Clouds fragile state after the death of Zack really f'd up his mind. In a desperate attempt to stay sane, clouds brain incorporated memories of Zack into his own being. Not that he idolized him, but simply he was the closest person to Cloud when Cloud needed something to grab onto.. Had it been someone else, say Random_Soldier_02, Cloud probably would have incorporated parts of that guys memories/emotions into his own too. Its simply a defense mechanism of the brain- in an attempt to block out a painful and shameful past

I think that Zack Fair fits the role of a hero better than Cloud Strife; however, I think that Cloud Strife ends up being a better hero for the player than Zack Fair because of his longevity.

If you're talking literally, it would be Zack. Who played the role of a run-of-the-mill hero.

If you're talking about in context of what makes a good story, it would be Cloud. His flawed and weak personality is what drives the game, and makes it interesting.

I voted for Cloud. Although I like Zack, I've always thought that Cloud was a better developed character.

Everybody knows, agrees and believes that Cloud Strife is a hero. Yes, i admit that, judging from my experience in reliving his journey in the game and from reading everybody's comments and replies.
However isn't Zack a hero too?
If i were to put it honestly, he was an UNSUNG hero.
He deserves it as much as Cloud, but not many people really let him to. I wonder why...
Remember at one point in the game, after the war in FFCrisis Core, Zack met Kunsel at SOLDIER floor.
Zack wanted badly for the people to notice his contributions however zannen des, the hero (Sephiroth) was choosen by the media. For me it was unfair as Zack's the one who did the main job.
Not only that. He saved Cloud (the people's hero... duh~), Genesis, did all the unwanted things people pushed at him but still, why can't he be a hero?

Zack: Hey, would you say I became a hero?

My answer is a BIG FAT YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like cloud better as far as his story is a more interresting story but Zack was to me the real hero with out him cloud would have never been abile to go on and find the true power to finish the fight!:cool:

Well, Zack is a much better role-model. I don't know how he got killed by ShinRa soldiers whereas Cloud pwnz them real quick in FF7. Cloud also has some random fate/faith in him that makes him strong, like how he lives after Sephiroth stabs his arse (JK) and Cloud just takes the sword out and counterattacks and Sephiroth falls off the ledge/pipey-thingy. But, Zack still kinda saved the world after killing Genesis.

BTW guys...For some reason, I feel like Zack didn't try against the ShinRa soldiers. I think he wanted to die for some reason (maybe relevant to Angeal, wings, and monsters.)

Cloud beause he saves the world. That simple really.

Plus in Nibel he manages to defeat Sephiroth back when Cloud was just your average Joe and Sephiroth was your super solider.

You could argue that Tifa and Aeris are the main heroes too. Aeris saves the world too with Holy while it's Tifa who carries Cloud through portions of the game.
