A friend of mine gave me their old laptop yesterday. It is a Lenovo 3000 c100, Intel Celeron, 76GB HDD, 512mb RAM, etc. I've read on the internet that it has "built in Broadcom WLAN".

This shows up in the Device Manager, but I don't really know what to do with it. I was wondering if there is any way to use this to connect to wireless networks around my house (I know there are a few, my Wii finds various ones), because I don't currently have a WiFi card.

So ya, can I use wireless LAN to connect to WiFi networks?

You can connect to networks with your wireless card if the network is unsecured or you know the password. It's stealing though. :p

If they leave their wireless network unsecured, it's their own fault. :P

Unsecured network = invitation to use.

Only illegal without express permission :D Unlike if the SSID was named "iamfree" or "ucanuseme" :p But then I personally wouldn't use unencrypted wireless unless I could tunnel another layer of security over it :p
