What did you all think of him? I thought he was a dent in an otherwise perfect game, so much so that I hated him. He was such a goof and his role as headmaster of the school was comical IMO.

Headmaster Cid is teh sex.

I thought he was a decently believable and likable character. Wise, but not unrealistically sage-like.
However, he definitely falls into the game's category of "lol, stupid old people are too stupid and useless to do anything, thank god we've got mighty teenagers like Squall to save the day!!!" which I find highly annoying.

Big D pretty much summed up my opinion too. I'm pretty indifferent about Headmaster Cid overall though.

I think he's a cute ol' guy! He's like a damsel in distress.

Yeah maybe he was cute when he was young just think why would Edea married that man if she didn't get attracted by him.

looks aren't the only factor of attraction, she could have been attracted to his goofy charm, a person burdoned with the powers of the Sorcoress may want to laugh from time to time don't ya think? Cid may actualy be a very funny man in a domestic setting... i kinda liked him myself though he was not the best Cid ever... as for him handing the controll over to Squall, i believe it's because him fighting his wife whom he clearly remembers could be a conflict of interests, besides, it's what he was training/raising him for anyway...

Cid Kramer is a very realistic character in action and appearance. I thought that he was one of the better presented characters in the game, and I wish that his role had extended beyond his first actions as Headmaster, as he loses relevance later on in the story.

Elton John? He looks more like Robin Williams! lol

I did NOT like his attitude towards Squall: "'But, but, but' That isn't something a leader should say." As the first hint of troube, i.e the conflict with Galbadia Garden, he turned tail and fled, so he's not really one to comment on leadership.

And I agree, Robin Williams, although he has been compared to Elton John as well. :D

I just wish he had a bit more energy, like a lot of the other Cids have had in past FF's.

I agree. The resemblance to Robin Williams is uncanny. I wonder who the character designer, Tetsuya Nomura, based the character off of. Is this information available through an interview or something?

I agree with Tallulah, when you first see him he looks all big and mighty explaining the dollet mission, then he puts Squall incharge of Balamb and later just runs off during the galbadian attack!?
And yeah he looks like Robin Williams:p

I liked him. He was no Cid Highwind, but I still liked him.

He was alright. I quite liked how despite having a hard decision to make (doing what is right versus saving his wife) he was able to do what was best, even if he didn't do it himself. However, I agree entirely with what Big D said about him falling into the category of useless old people in contrast to useful youngsters.

Yes, the game was adamant about the player seeing that Cid could not effectively take action like Squall, Zell, Selphie, and Quistis. It would have been nice if he had taken some action about something at some point in the game — after all, you don't necessarily have to fight to be considered helpful, right?

That was pretty cool. He also remained fairly calm during the 'internal conflict' episode, and his knowledge of Balamb Garden's Centra origins led to it being saved from the missiles. Overall, I'd say he's a strong and capable guy - the game just did its best to discredit his non-violent approach to things, same as with the people of FH.

This big piggy didn´t like him. Why? Well I find very coward, when things get ugly in school, headmaster just packs his money suitcases and runs away and leaves school to be run by teens.

I was pissed to see him during final video celebrating with because he had just runned away and things calm down and then suddenly he is the man again.

Only sympathy comes when he has to give order to kill his wife. Maybe he gave that order so he can get younger wife?

I thought he was fine. If you're going to criticise a character in FFVIII, there's no reason why you'd start with Cid.

or more importantly the raw deal she got in the game
obv the best character in the entire game and she gets pushed to the side by squall for the feckin laughing stock that is rinoa

Hahah that was great...

I do think that Cid was an essential character in the game, but he is was not as dynamic as some of the cids in previous ff's or ones that came after

Both, but mainly Quistis being shoved aside for Rinoa.

Quistis> Rinoa

I feel Quistis was too insecure to play lead female.

And Cid I imagine is mainly disliked because he came right after the cigarette smoking, spear weilding, airship pilot.

i find this part of the love story hard to believe though
cause like 9 times out of ten any guy would choose quistis over rinoa
and i couldnt even see a guy like squall saying a word to rinoa if he didnt have to

He gave me a rare card!!

<3 Cid..

but no, he's seems too much of a bookworm to pick up after the greatest Chain-smoking foul-mouthed spear-wielding rocket-scientist on this side of gaia.. ^^
