Old FF6 desktop theme

I can't find a certain old Microsoft Plus! desktop theme I once had in 1997 (and no later). It was entirely FF6 based and the wallpaper was the phantom train iirc, and had icons like Terra in esper form as the network neighborhood, and there was a VERY LONG shutdown sound of the phantom train departing. I'm really fond of this theme (especially the color scheme which it was dark purplish colors) and the internet doesn't seem to have it anymore. Whatever turns up in searches is a unrelated 1999-2000 FF6 theme based on the CG artwork from the PSX release.

It was also a theme apparently made in america, since it was titled "Final Fantasy III Desktop Theme" so it couldn't have been done by Butz who by the way made once-popular FF desktop themes in 97-98 which are also all long gone.

This is more for nostalgia and dressing up my older machines rather than for the sake of dressing up Windows with ludicrous eye-candy.

Anyone knows where to get it?

Also, I wonder how they ripped the sound effects of spells and such without the music before SNES emulation matured to that point in time? Wouldn't have been possible with emulation back then anyway since full duplex sound cards were very few and unpopular as well as emulators lacking WAV dumping features.

I got news for you

1997 internet != 2008 internet

Sites expire (especially short-lived personal sites on university servers as web portals, which were all over the place back then.)

Therefore it was just another theme on just another website. sites expire everyday. Thats something you HAVE to get used to.

Now my question is, why don't we reconstruct it. Its not hard to change all of that stuff in Windows. The hardest part will be finding that wallpaper. If you listed the sprites and stuff, I'd be willing to hunt them down. Same with all the noises. You'd have to find the wallpaper, since I don't know what it looks like.

As much as I hate thread necromancy and how annoying that is in general forum common sense, today I did eventually find it (http://wayback.archive.org/web/19970415205339/http://www.sqla.com/unofficial/files.html) through random follow-the-old-linkpages which reminded me toward this thread here.

- It dates to January 1997
- It DIDN'T have the phantom train as the background BUT!! It did have phantom train startup and shutdown sounds as I have mentioned.
- The busy cursor is animated and turns into an imp

EDIT: Unfortunately sometimes robots.txt gets detected from the squatter of the domain and causes the link to not display. Try another day if it doesn't.

EDIT2: Andrew Vestal (https://twitter.com/avestal) ran the original Unofficial Squaresoft page (where those themes were hosted) so maybe there was a newer FF3DT zip with the phantom train lurking on one of his backups. but that's probably asking for too much for something rather trivial. The archive only goes back to April 1997 at the latest. His own backup only goes up to 1996 and lacks the programs and themes (http://www.thegia.com/uoshp/files.html).
