Penhall to Adapt Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' - Cinematical (http://www.cinematical.com/2007/04/02/penhall-to-adapt-cormac-mccarthys-the-road/)

I LOVE this book. I recently read it for my English class. It is the first and only book over which I've wept.

Please, dear God, do not let this movie suck. I'm afraid of what they may cut from the movie for the "sake" of the viewer. Particularly the headless, cooked newborn food in the refugees' fire., or the naked prisoners huddling in fear from their cannibalistic "owners."

Although the book doesn't explicitly explain the destruction of the world, I think it may be the works of a supervolcano or maybe a meteoric collision. My friend mentioned a nuclear bomb as a possibility, one that hadn't come to my mind.

Anyone read the book? How did you feel about it? What do you destroyed the world? Any idea how you would like to direct certain parts of the movie?

As far as I know Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron are going to be in it, which is a very good sign. Both great actors that make smart choices when it comes to movies.
