A decent amount of people expressed interest in this, so I'm going to start planning it.

First off, I'd like a head count of people who would be willing/able to play in this.

Secondly, I need dates that people would be best able to play. I know the game isn't out everywhere yet, and I'd like to take that into consideration.

Some people also said stuff about a singles and doubles tournament. I think I'd like to just start off with FFA then maybe do teams later in the summer. That would also be convenient as it'd give others who can't get the game yet a chance later on for another round.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

well... it's a little over a month til everyone has the game
I think we can wait that long to actually hold the tournament.

As for times I'm available, idk. My work schedule will vary every week. I will say I'm busy for the entire 2nd week of June.

This makes me regret not having my Wii WiFi working even more :(

I don't know if it makes a lot of sense to start planning a tournament now that you can't have until the end of next month. Maybe you should have a North American tournament in the meantime.

I can't take part, though. I have really crappy luck with my internet connection.

An NA tournament would work, at least for the meantime.

Here's a quick question - is it possible to take demos of online games? That'd be nice for this so people could watch what happened in the games.

But yeah, we could get a bunch of NA people playing this month, within the next few weeks, if everyone is cool with that.

I'll be in as long as the wifi agrees with me. :p

I'll join the tournament.

As for when I'm available to have tournament matches Friday to Sunday on most weeks are good for me.

Just bumping this again.

So for everyone who wants to be involved: Please post your FC in this thread. I know I could trudge through the other thread and get them, but I'm lazy!

Also, we need to discuss rules. Do we want to do it "official"-esque? (Final Dest, no items) or some variation on that? I mean, I think it'd be fun to just have it be crazy, but whatever the majority of you think is best.

I'm all for with items. As for the stages, I think we should take out Rumble falls, Wario Ware, and even though I love it, Spear Pillar.

Okay, I'm going to set a deadline for signups as sometime on Sunday, 5/18/08.

And so far there's a vote for items and player-chosen stages. Any other input?

Roto13

All items? Because some items aren't really appropriate for tournament play.

Shoeberto

True. It'd probably be hard to really weigh the pros and cons of which are worth turning off, though. Plenty of them can turn the tide entirely. It's probably going to have to be fairness vs. funness. The only item I can think of for turning off definitely is the fan, because it's such a bitch.

But yeah... if we're going to be completely Fox News about this (fair and balanced), it'd have to be no items. Otherwise we'd have to spend pages debating the merits of certain ones and how they'd affect stuff etc. Except the fan. No fucking fans.

Basically, I think there are three sets of items.

1) Any item that people automatically run away from when someone picks up is a good one to turn off. :P The hammers and the star, specifically. The Home Run Bat can be cheap, but only if you suck. xD

2) Random items like Pokeballs and Assist Trophies. Some of those are overpowered and can really lay down some hurt. You're more likely to get something balanced or just plain weak, though, so these aren't so bad.

3) Everything else.

I think turning off the type 1 items is a good idea in any tournament.

Still need FCs from Nominus and Evastio, I didn't see them listed in the other thread.

I'd like to be considered as a maybe. As It's not my Wii, it's not definite that I can get on the exact time or even day, so I'd only be able to clarify when a time and date is decided.

I have a video capture card, but afaik you can't spectate on games when you play with friends, only on random ones with anyone.

If we could get demos of online games that'd be tight, but I don't know if you can do that, either. Does anyone else know if that's doable?

Can you save replays of online matches? Cause you guys could send those to Hsu.

EDIT: Oh, I guess that's what Demos are. xP

Shoeberto

I just found out that we can save online replays. Just press Z during the results screen (after you've pressed start to get the kill/death totals) to save it.

And you guys will need my Wii code as well, because apparently you need my FC and Wii code in your message board address book to send replays. So here it is:
5616-1273-0134-4931

I have a SD card so I can host them so everyone can get an idea of how the matches went (well, assuming you have an SD card). If you don't have an SD card, hook me up with both your Wii code and FC and I can ship it off to you that way.

This is important for all those competing!:
Once signups close I'm going to work on the brackets. Once the brackets are determined and posted everyone that's competing will need to PM their opponent to set up a time. I'm thinking the first round should be done by Sunday, May 25th, but if there's a special circumstance I'm willing to extend it. When you have a date and time determined, PM it to me.

The rounds will be best two out of three, 2-minute time match. Players can choose the level, with some exceptions (I'll list later). There can be items, again with exceptions (will be listed). Once you have finished all of the matches, please send me the replay within 48 hours.

I have some stuff I have to head out to do, but I'll get a list of disallowed maps and items either tonight or tomorrow so everyone's cool. I may also send out a batch PM with these rules just for people who don't check the thread :) Like Evastio and Nominus who still haven't posted their FCs~

Oh man I'm pissed that my family can't afford internet connection right now or I would be jumping on this tournament. I'm a monster with Metaknight and Zelda.

Nope! But signups are hereafter officially closed.

Tonight I will work on brackets and banned items/levels. I'll make a new thread when everything is ready.
