INFINITE UNDISCOVERY | SQUARE ENIX (http://www.infiniteundiscovery.com/)

Square-Enix/Tri-Ace, September 2 in US and Japan. Xbox 360 exclusive.

I guess to play it up a little bit... the game is said to contain 10 years worth of ideas Yoshiharu Gotanda, the man who created the original Tales of Phantasia and later co-founded the Tri-Ace studio. I had no idea this game was so close to completion, since Squenix appears to have been giving much more exposure to The Last Remnant, its multiplatform (and still TBA-release) title.

Trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34279.html?type=) (HD also available)

Something interesting. The dialogue (as well as Last Remnant's trailers, for that matter) is all in English, while the menus are all in Japanese. Both InfinUndi and Last Remnant were earmarked as titles aimed at the west from the very beginning. This leads me to believe that, at least in terms of spoken language, English will be the original voice track for all releases (despite the lip-sync). Which means that there may not be any Japanese voice tracks, for those of us who usually prefer such things. The excuse that most of us use for putting things in Japanese is to 'hear it in its original language, as it was intended' yadda yadda, so it looks like this time...English is the original language.

That does look interesting. I know I'll be turning off the voice-overs announcing the attacks and special moves as I was already tired of them by the end of the trailer.

Voice acting being lame + Me no having Xbox 360 = me not giving a damn

I'll admit the scenery and story looked quite interesting though. And what the hell was up with the lip synching? It was terrible.

Since the text was in Japanese in that video I'm guessing that they did the English voice-overs without updating the FMVs to sync with the English dialogue.

^Yeah, but are they gonna correct that or not?

It sends out the wrong vibes for a game when its like that.

The game has a nice look to it but the gameplay looks very shoddy, like it should belong on the PS2. I guess I was just expecting more from this generation of consoles. And the trailer to this game makes me cringe, why so serious?

I've actually heard more about this game than Last Remnant. And I like the sound of the plot better. You're not the main hero. I've always wanted a game like that xD But yeah. I've been craving JRPGs lately. I gave away my PS2 for an electric guitar last year. And all I have is a 360 so my pickings are slim. But apparently I just have to wait through the summer. I can survive on the DS RPGs until then. Might splurge on a PSP in a month or so to get me by. But I am looking forward to this game

Ouch!

More quality RPGs on the Xbox 360 is always a good thing in my book.

Just finished this and it was an awesome game. Anyone else play it yet, and if so what do you think of it?

Playing it right now. There's so many little unlockable things. It's crazy. I'm enjoying it though, but I don't think I'll purchase it. Not yet, anyway :D

I really suggest doing so, because it's Tri-Ace.

I got this game after about 10 sessions of Reine's Praises via-MSN and #EoFF.

The Connect System makes it fun~ I'm lost atm, navigating the world map is a little tricky for me...

I'm still getting use to using the right connect abilities/character traits at the right times, but I have mastered Aerial Combinations!

I was actually pondering to create a IU topic while playing it just a moment ago, it's really great :D and will be yet another great game that no-one played.

I merged Apocalypse.Origin's new thread with the existing IU thread. So uh, yeah. Carry on. :D

I really think the extreme Tri-ace love on this board needs the stop. They have belly-flopped so dramatically after the PS2. Did any of you play Radiata Stories? That game was awful! Star Ocean 3 was also lame in every aspect (especially the story and voice acting, just horrendous). Infinite Undiscovery looks very meh from what I've seen now. I'm not trying to start an argument but I really don't see what they're doing these days which is so great.

Eh, whatever floats your boat :p

I'm actually suprised with the english voice-acting in this game... it's pretty good for Tri-Ace :o!

That and the storyline so far is pretty solid/interesting (took me awhile to get into it mind you..), which they haven't really done since the VP games o.0

Eh, even if I had a 360, I'd give this game a pass. The plot seems interesting (although the 'the planet is bleeding' reminds me of FF7's lifestream).

The game has a nice look to it but the gameplay looks very shoddy, like it should belong on the PS2.

That too, it reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy XII.

Well if you were to stick a bunch of giant chains in the ground to bound a moon I suppose it would be just a tiny bit wounded.

How ridiculously hard are Gabriel and Iseria this time around?

>>> I have to agree with that, specially in the Radiata Story part, I was also kind of disappointed with SO3. I admit I am a Tri-ace fan but thats only because of Valkyrie Profile.

It's not a bad game so far, I wish they had fit voices better to the characters, but it's not too bad. It's a funny game so far. xD

this was a different team from tri-ace than the guys that did the star ocean games... is the rumor on the street, anyway.

star ocean 2 > star ocean 3.

enix > square
before merger.

Wasn't really the biggest Enix fan. :p

They DID make Ogre Battle though, so that makes up for it.

Anyway, I REALLY want this game. But I won't have a 360 until January most likely. ;_;

star ocean 2 > star ocean 3.

enix > square
before merger.

Pretty sure it's the same tri-Ace. And why would they be better before the merge? It's still the same tri-Ace/other third party developers that develop the Enix games.

well, now that they're merged, i don't really see a point in comparing the same producer to the same producer.

i liked old school enix games better than old school square games.

... except for chrono trigger.

Wow... the very first Boss Battle on the Second Disk is... so very atmospheric and an epic battle, it's an epic I haven't felt in a long time.

So is it true that the Japanese version of Infinite Undiscovery has no voice acting in the Japanese language? This would explain why the English voice acting has such strange battle dialogue: "Dimunendo Dive!"

Diminuendo Dive, like all of Capell's non-SP attacks have a musical meaning somewhere within them.

–adjective, adverb 1. gradually reducing in force or loudness; decrescendo (opposed to crescendo).

3. a diminuendo passage. Symbol: >

Hohohoh guys, I am finally up to final dungeon (Darkstorn has confirmed this) and alls I've been is impressed with the overall epic feeling of the entire game.

Some cons I've discovered:
- Minor Camera issues in-battle
- Capell had inconsistent acting in some parts...
- Couple of Voice-Acting issues (Pretty good otherwise though :D!)
- The sound files of Capell's Skills can get a little repetitive.
- Totally off with the English Dubbing, not a big issue for me but w/e :D
- Secondary Characters should have totally been completely usable T_T... 'specially Dominica.

Tips I can give?
- Completely pass up doing easy mode, you'll want the full experience of the game, you might struggle at a couple bosses at the start but I've actually never strolled off on my way to "grind."
- You should be able to be completely sparse with a certain medicine the game will suggest you aquire alot of in Disk 2.
- Crescendo Spike and Diminuendo Dive, use them :D
- Writing, Enchantment and Alchemy will yield extremely large amounts of useful-ness if you train in 'em.
- Play through at least until you've crossed paths with the first chain.
- Roses have thorns, enjoy a certain weather effect while you can!

edit: Beaten! ... I totally didn't know what to expect from Seraphic Gate, so I ran out after getting kicked in the face to much... and am now working on Rico's Writing quest :0!
