So my mum was watching some 'I'll do anything' program with people auditioning to play the role of Nancy in Oliver Twist the musical. The presenter guy wore a red jacket, and I was told he was gay. I was also told that the judges were also gay.

So, on British tv we have loads of gay presenters and loads of gay people in general. Shows how far we have come. It almost seems like its an advantage to be gay. ;)

So my question is, are there many/any gay presenters on American tv? Are they as common as they are in Britain?

EDIT: Lol, it was so funny. One of the male panelists on the program was going 'You know, Jesse, you just dont excite me.' So Jesse says 'What can I do to excite you then?' And he goes 'I dont know. Believe me, a lotta women have been asking me the same question.'

If you happen to be a gay stereotype who works in a stereotypically gay industry, I think you have a better chance of ending up on TV these days. Like those Queer Eye for the Straight Guy guys.

Gay TV? :o Could they not be pretending to be Gay so they get more views?

That could also be true. :P

^Well, the presenter guy looked slightly gay. The panelists who were gay didnt really. Although Im not the best at spotting gay people.

John Barrowman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barrowman)

But most gay people on tv are the stereotype. I used to think all gay people were like that originally.

Omg gay tv would rock  I would watch all their cooking shows and design shows  Here in Portugal we don't have many tv presenters that are gay but we do have one humorist who presented lots of shows, that was gay! We also have literarly tons of girls presenting shows far more than guys so :rolleyes2

Most of the gay guys on TV are either acting gay, or secretly hiding they are gay. Actually its not easy to find gay actors/performers. Most are either in theaters, in fashion or in the closet.

I thought this was going to be a thread knocking Will and Grace. That would make me :mad2:.

But no, not to the extent you seem to be explaining.

Graham Norton used to be on here. It was canceled. That made me :(. He was so funny.

There are plenty of people on TV here who are gay. Some are like Ellen Degeneres, though. She's a lesbian, but she rarely brings this up during her program, nor lets it define her. She's just a funny lady who likes to dance a lot, that happens to love the ladies.

Also, I didn't know there was a difference between being British and being gay. *zing!*

I like that the UK's got something of a tradition of honouring performers regardless of their sexuality. Sir Nigel Hawthorne and Sir Ian McKellen are just two of the openly gay men awarded knighthoods, and this kind of thing even happened back in the '80s.

Oh please. Everyone knows Spain is the gayest country ever. They were even mincing around the Spanish Inquisition like a bunch of nellies.

They were even mincing around the Spanish Inquisition like a bunch of nellies.During the Italian Renaissance, it was occasionally quite fashionable for guys to have boyfriends. The trend continued for some time, until the Pope got annoyed by it:p

Point being, Italy beats Spain in the early modern gay stakes:)

Though the Conservative government of the 80s wasn't terribly keen on it. What with Section 28 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_28) and all.

In all honesty, I don't mind it sometimes. I find the mannerisms to be very irritating at times, but I like people based on how they act rather than their sexuality of course. For instance I don't like Graham Norton, but I happen to think Stephen Fry is fantastic.

To be honest I really couldn't care less if someone is gay or not. Provided I'm entertained by it it's of no concern. "I'll do anything" is boring and rubbish, ergo I don't care.

Ryan Seacrest is gayest of the gays, but he just won't flat out admit it. Who does he think he's fooling?

It's so funny when he talks about being attracted to women. Yeah, right!

Graham Norton is also pretty funny, and yes Ryan Seacrest is secretly gay. He's gotta be.

True Karen and Jack often stole the show, but I also found Grace and Will to be hilarious. The show's deliciously over the top, and it had a special kind of humour in my opinion.

I'm posting in this thread because, coincidentally, the metrosexual episode of South Park is on atm.

Karen is really about the only thing that Will and Grace has going for it and she's not enough to carry the show. Everything else is lame predictable sitcom fare, just with more gays.

I've always found Will and Grace refreshing because its topic hadn't been much discussed on TV. Its "sitcomness" seemed atypical. I found myself "roflmao"-ing more in it than I had with shows like Frasier, Friends, Home Improvement, etc. Its writing was also very nice.

Oh well. To each his own, I guess. :(

I fully agree. It's probably the sitcom that's made me laugh out loud the most.

Also, John Barrowman auditioned for the role of Will, but apparently he was "too straight" :P But meh, Eric McCormick (sp?) is a great Will, so I really don't care that Barrowman did not get the role. I guess it worked out for the best.
