That's right everybody, it's time for another forum-wide Final Fantasy Challenge! For the rest of June and a couple of weeks into July, the Staff would like to invite you to participate in the Final Fantasy III competition.

We've developed a variety of challenges to whet your competitive appetite; everything from the beginner-friendly completion challenge (in other words, beat the final boss) to the gut-wrenching, heart-burn inducing Sour Cream and Onion Challenge.

BUT. We do have a few rules we're pretty insistent on. I'm stealing those from Azar.

Eyes on Plays Final Fantasy <strike>I</strike> III Rules
When you begin the game, please post a digital camera picture or a screenshot in this thread of your game that has your party clearly visible on the screen. You MUST do this to be eligible for participation in the Challenges; we have to be able to see the names, classes, etc. of your party so we can compare it to your finishing party, and make sure you don't just stick in a memory card or load up a save state without putting in the effort.
That's right, you must also post a picture from the END of the game in this thread with your same party being displayed. This way we can confirm whether or not you met the criteria for any/all of the challenges: what level your party is, what class they are, etc.
You CAN play the game on an emulator, and you CAN give us a screenshot of that. Just don't go talking about where you got the rom, mmkay? ADDENDUM: Also, don't go using frameskip on us. That's just plain wrong.
You can achieve as many challenges as you want, and yes, you will be able to show off your winnings in some manner once this event is over.

And now with the boring stuff out of the way, on to the challenges!

Gold Star Challenges
The Sour Cream and Onion Challenge: To complete the Sour Cream and Onion Challenge you MUST finish the game with a FOUR Onion Knights FULLY EQUIPPED with Onion Knight gear. That's right, you have to finish the game with all characters in the Onion Knight job class and ALL of those characters must have a full set of Onion Equipment.

Onion Kids Only More onion goodness, this requires that you play and beat the entire game with all characters job class as Onion Kids.

The One Character Challenge This is pretty cut and dry. You must play the entire game using only one character. The job class and character is up to you.

All Characters Level 99 Again, pretty easy to figure out. All of your characters must be level 99 upon completion of the game.

All Characters Primary Class Level 99 All characters class level must be at level 99 before the completion of the game. The characters themselves do not have to be at level 99 (if it's even possible to do one without the other).

Initial equipment The game must be completed with the starting set of equipment for all characters.

And finally ...

All Character Classes Level 99
In any combination between your four characters ALL job classes must be represented and ALL job classes must be maxed out at level 99. This challenge is for those who are crazy, masochistic or have WAY too much time on their hands.

And for everyone else who doesn't have the time or the gumption to complete our grueling gold star challenges, we have the following:

Silver Star Challenges
Onion Knights Only Related to our first challenge, this requires that you finish the game with all characters job class as Onion Knight. To complete this challenge you DO NOT have to have complete sets of Onion Equipment.

Same class for all characters All characters must be of the same job class. While you might think this would merit a gold star challenge, it'd be pretty easy to complete this challenge with certain classes.

Completion Challenge Do you have zero time for additional in-game goodies? Join me in a simple completion challenge! I promise I won't upstage you. :greenie:

Funniest names The funniest names or the funniest naming theme! This will be decided by staff selection and member vote!

Funniest Walkthrough Approaching this game in a way different from anyone else? Develop either a full or partial written walkthrough, complete with screenshots, for any part of FFIII. Please keep Eyes on's forum rules in mind when creating these, but otherwise feel free to be a zany as you want!

Quickest Walkthrough Time the game and compete with other members to see who can beat the game the quickest!

Lowest Average Level to Beat the Game This will be a forums-wide competition to see the average level at which we can all beat the game. Consider this both a personal and community goal!

Girly-Man Challenge Complete the game using only the "weak" classes including (but not limited to) Scholar, Geomancer, Evoker, and Bard!

And that's all she wrote, folks! Get started as soon as you want, participate in as many challenges as you'd like BUT BE AWARE that the final date for completion of challenges is JULY 13, 2008. This is to give us ample time to rest and prep for our next Final Fantasy Challenge.

I myself will be playing along with y'all this time, and I look forward to some great threads about the game. Remember, if you're ever stuck in-game, avoid GameFAQs and other walkthroughs; make an thread here about it and get involved with your fellow gamers.

Good luck y'all!

Once I get some more free time I think I shall be joining in this time. Been wanting to play through FF III NES for quite a while now.

I'm going to try for Onion Knights with all equipment on DS. Or maybe I'll be lucky to just finish the game. :)

Well, time to delete that file I started last week... :(

Ah hell, whom am I kidding, I was stuck anyway.

Also, can I keep mine in a blog format or some other similar method? That way you can see my progress all at once rather than jumbled with everyone else's here. :)

I'll be joining on my DS! Just beating the game will be enough for me, I think. :D All these new challenges look very exciting, and I can tell you've spent time developing them. :up: I will definitely try one when we reach a game I've actually beaten before. and I also like the trend that a new staffer introduces each game. :D

but yes, DS. starting up later today.

To pseudo-quote some random Final Fantasy flash that everyone seems to love: "It's time to save the world again from my own den."
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/2.jpg" />
"Shucks"? You know we're living in the sticks when the kids talk like this. But that's okay, because heros always live in towns in the middle of nowhere where the enemies are weak whenever a game starts.
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/3.jpg" />
"Time to fight"? Sounds like foreshadowing to me...
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/4.jpg" />
Gah! Goblins! And against our heros, who apparently are identical triplets. My guess is they had to dress them in different colors so people can tell them apart. And did I say triplets? I did. That's because the fourth one is the first one's stunt double. So, how will they fare?
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/5.jpg" />
Victorious, of course. If you lose the initial battle in the game then you were dropped on your head several times as a baby.<br/><FONT SIZE="1">I didn't replay this part...twice. :shifty:</FONT>
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/6.jpg" />
With this awesome loot I shall rule the world!! Actually, it keeps the Goblins from poking me with their pointy things.
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/7.jpg" />
Great job, Sherlock! How did you deduce that the only two rocks in the cave are special?
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/8.jpg" />
Ooh, stairs and a door in a cave. This must lead somewhere good. But where? Stay tuned to find out!

Also, you probably don't want to do this as the Phantom! xD

Our heros enter the next room and what do they find? An altar with fuzzy orb things. They approach apprehensively...
<br/>
<img src="http://www.homemade-websites.com/eoff/EyesOnPlays/FF3/10.jpg" />
And find what they have quested after. Mustering all of the simple-minded charm and rapist wit they can muster, our heroes launch their attack. But nothing could prepare them for the counter-attack that awaited them...

Wait, aren't Flying Mullet, Roto13 and Avarice-ness Final Fantasy VI junkies? Yes, but when the casting call for Eyes on Final Fantasy III went out they didn't read the fine print that specified that this was for the <i>NES</i> Final Fantasy III and not the SNES Final Fantasy III.

I so agree.

All I get is a PM that says I'm a star! And then when I read it, I said allowed to the computer "I AM A STAR!"

And now it's even more epic because my BABY'S A STAR!

You make me want to play this now. XD

Don't worry, while I ---... NEVER... --- change names in FF6, you seriously have just got your slot in FF6.

Yeah, cheating isn't allowed to get the Onion equipment. You're supposed to get it the old fashioned way via enemy drops at the end of the game.

EDIT: if i'm doing sour cream, does that mean i can never change jobs?
No, you can use whatever jobs you want. To complete this challenge you have to find four sets of Onion equipment and equip your party with it.

OK, I need some help. I want to make a recorded video walkthrough. But I've tried using the in-built video recorder for my NES emulator three mother smurfing times now and each time it's either not recorded or messed up entirely. Can someone help me out here? That would be because you're on the floating continent at present. Once you're done there you'll eventually open up an entire world that will be five times bigger than the one you're presently on

Also Advance makes all your party attack at once with increased attack power I believe.

Well I finally got started and here's some pics.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0000.jpg

Here our heroes come forth. Since none stepped up for my naming idea I just picked some people I've recently chatters with on PMs and would more then likely see this thread. It looks to be the start of one epic adventure!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0001.jpg

It's not long through the cave before the party is assaulted by an angry turtle! Luckily not of the teenage mutant ninja kind or else we would have been doomed. An epic fight ensued...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0002.jpg

But in the end a giant turtle with spikes is no match for a swarm of kids wielding butter knives! It just wasn't your day Mr. Turtle.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0003.jpg

So after some crystal talks to us (how a crystal can talk nor be alive is beyond me, but ok) we get some cool jobs. Rantz becomes a rad Monk, f-o-a decides to pump iron and picks up some huge swords to swing around, Sagsyg decides to blow things up, and GoBo is sadly picked to be on healing duty. Our group of heroes decide to work hard to save the world from the darkness never taking a moment to goof off...

After *ahem* resting up our heroes are now ready to venture forth to the mysterious cave to the north and find this Jinn.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0005.jpg

Our heroes do battle with many an enemy, and plenty of mummies, all the while wondering why mummies are in a small cave in a fantasy kingdom and not near any form of a desert.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0006.jpg

Regardless our heroes trudge forward and find the missing Princess Sara. After much discussion the 4 decide to allow the super sexy Princess Sara to join their party. Really now, who wouldn't want this in their party?

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/sara.gif

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0007.jpg

Listen lady I don't know what this B-Button is you keep spouting about!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0008.jpg

After traversing this mighty dungeon our party encounters Jinn. Lucky for us we have the element of surprise while he is apparently doing his aerobics exercises.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0009.jpg

Gee for a guy who does so many workouts you'd expect him to be less fat. Regardless after a long battle we win out against the evil Jinn. Now to get out of here.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0010.jpg

Why can't we have more of these items in the series? After we return to Sasoon Castle, we release the curse of the evil Jinn and go to the king for our reward...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0011.jpg

A CANOE? THAT'S the best Sasoon has to offer? Geez I remember when back in the day saving a whole kingdom would net you a castle's weight in gold and jewels or a small army of fair maidens. Royal standards have really been slipping.

Before leaving Sasoon forever to continue our quest we decide to say one final goodbye to Princess Sara.

These "skills", someone tell me more about them, please? :D

Basically skill levels in a jobs makes it easier to change back into that job later. For instance if you have a skill level of 10 as a fighter but your currently a monk, you could change back to a fighter for 10 less capacity (or however the math work with it), if you get your skill high enough it's possible to change jobs at no capacity charge.

Oh and yay I got named in someone's game. You could have just named me B2X or B2KX though since that seems to be the shortened (lazy) way to type my screen name. Hoqever I can forgive you since you made me a monk. :D Now you gotta have a huge epic fight with solo Bahmut vs Bahamut. Battle for the true title. :cool:

I would post up some more picks, but I would probably get yelled at for spoilers again since I'm power leveling through a little too much XD.

I just unlocked the second set of jobs and are playing around with those while I build up and prepare for the assault on Hyne.

Though in the mean time of not showing how far in the story I'm progressing it's giving me time to just goof off and find more lame jokes to fill this thread with soon enough. :monster:

Well, after (sadly) not being able to finish FFII in time, I'm now going to attempt the third one. Although the previous two were the NES versions, I'm going to attempt this one on my trusty DS.

When we last left our heroes they had just defeated the evil Jinn and saved the Kingdom of Sasoon. Now our party heads off to search for more adventure.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0013.jpg

And along the way they let Cid join their group. Look at the little guy, ain't he a cute ball of fluffy beard?

Well that's good and all but the party is still trapped by a giant boulder. If only there were a way to destroy it. Say by...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0014.jpg

...RAMMING AN AIRSHIP INTO IT! That's right. We rammed our only vehicle into a massive mountain sized boulder. Now I know there Cid from FFIV got all his guts and insane ideas from. This little bugger started it all!

Anyways we make it Canaan and Cid leaves the party (geez what a mooch). We explore the town a bit and eventually check out Cid's place.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0017.jpg

Ya I got nothing to even explain what's going on here. Use your imagination.

Eventually Cid let's us check out his storage closet for some free goodies.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0016.jpg

Egad man! This isn't some storage closet, it's a freaking Bat Cave! How did you manage to hide this in such a tiny town?!

We decided to spend the night at the local inn to rest up for the next day.

I wish EoFF had decided to do this a month earlier, because I oh so conveniently happen to have exams this months and have to study for school. And thus, I cannot even play the best Final Fantasy ever. Sucks.

Also, why didn't this month happen earlier, back when I started my second NES playthrough I eventually beat with non Ninja or Sages? *sigh*

So I'm having trouble figuring out what sort of drama happened in the Dwarf Cave. Can anyone decipher these messages for me?

<img src = "http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/robinhoody/dwarfcave4.jpg">

At first, I was intending this to be humorous, pointing out that four dwarves are saying essentially the same thing. Then I realized that the fourth guy is actually saying something different, and the only one speaking the truth! Only one horn was stolen, right? There's one blatantly sitting in the middle of the cave. What are those other three smoking? And why are two of them saying the exact same thing?

Oh yes I have. I've just finished my second NES playthrough and no matter how much I like FF III, 2 playthroughs so short after each other isn't a good idea, me thinks. The NES version requires patience and it always takes me more than a month to get through it.

I could play my DS version again, if I had a way to take screens of that.

Well then I think it's time for another chapter of the story of our heroes Rantz, Sagsyg, f-o-a, and GoBo.

After leaving Canaan our heroes found themselves in the worst of places, a nest full of dragons!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0000-1.jpg

Ok well maybe their not entirely fearsome dragons. However they do make the same noise as a chocobo, so it's very well possible their some kind of Chocobo/Bahamut love child hybrid.

Our heroes continue on and eventually make it to a Viking Base. One of the coolest places EVER!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0002-1.jpg

Namely for this nifty cannon you can fire.

Of course it isn't all fun and games for our heroes.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0003-1.jpg

I mean ew. I wouldn't go through the eye hole of a dragon even it meant saving the universe.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0004-1.jpg

Eventually our heroes fight the most unmenacing boss of FF III. A big rat. Which is just a recolor of past enemies, I mean seriously, at least early bosses have enemies recolored after them but a recolor of a normal enemy is just embarrassing. He's not even that big honestly.

Well that's all for this installment. Next time the fun dwarf caves and fun with fire jobs.

I have some tips here for people playing the NES version.

If you want an easy Garuda, train to lv 30 with 4 Masters. But don't botehr doing in in Salonia. No, you have to do this before you enter Salonia and loose your airship. Fly a bit to the west of Salonia and find the Ancient Ruins (where you'll later pick up the invincible). Enter, but stay near the entrance and run around a bit. The most common enemy you'll fight is a Pyralis. 4 masters can take it down in 1 turn but you've gotta be lucky he doesn't get you first. If he beats you, restart. If you beat him, congrats, very easy EXP early on! Sometimes you'll encounter a Zombie Dragon, or worse, 2. One you can handle at that lv with 4 Masters, but 2 is crazy. Train like this and you're lv 30 and ready for Garuda in no time.

I guess this was probably common knowledge, but I still felt like saying it. ^^ And 4 Masters is also obvious: that way you get the best HP boosts.

Oh yeah, for the Temple of Time, lv 40 there in the NES version is handy. You could go and train in the ancient ruins again, but actually, I advise the undersea cave in the south-east of the worldmap. Easy exp, great treasure and a village with an inn nearby. Lv 40 in no time.

And finally, the ultimate lv spot in NES ff III is arguably Bahamut's lair, but you'll need the Invincible of course. You can easily train to lv 60 here. And with that lv ypou're stong enough to beat the final dungeons even if you don't use Ninja and Sages (which I recommend, way more fun!)

Oh well, all things people knew already, but I still felt like saying it. I did tehse things on my latest trip through FF III nes and it worked wonders. First time I beat Garuda it took me 4 months, second time I played through FF III nes it took me 2 hours thanks to leveling in Ancient Ruins.

Elpizo, you don't gotta be that power leveled. Heck I'm only 33 and I'm already outside of the Final Dungeon. And I managed half the game with either a scholar or a thief in my party at one point. :p

And at Relapse, great Garuda finish, mine was similar only I didn't do the full Dragoon set up this time. I have one boss pic that will top everyone's though but that's for later (probably next update) all I will say is....god I love f-o-a in this game (and possibly outside too :shifty: ).

He's been equipped with the two best swords I've gotten my hands on ever since becoming a Warrior. :( Occasionally he'll get a great hit but usually he does less than half the staffs' damage.

I'm not doing the final dungeon at 33. I'm in my level grinding and ultimate gear obtaining stage of my FF play through period now. I just meant it was easily possible to get up to the final dungeon before level 40. :)

I probably won't even attempt the final battle being less then 60. I'm still planning my final party's set up without ninja or sage.

EDIT: So here goes the next installment of my play through.

We last left our heroes, they had saved the world from the evil of a recolored "big" rat.

They continued along eventually coming across some form of a tower. They pushed to the top of it and on the top a most amazing secret was disc....

OH MY GOD WHAT THE SMURF IS THAT MONSTROSITY?! It's...it's the most hideous monster I've ever seen!

Eventually the combined might of f-o-a and Rantz bring this evil looking thing down and the party continues on. We find a cave of dwarves which apparently is full of sexual innuendo talk involving "horns".

Eventually we end up fighting one of these horn craved dwarves...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0006-1.jpg

Ok scratch that last boss as being horrible. This guy takes the award. I mean it's a NAKED DWARF. I never quite understood the snake though. I mean I guess it shows how tough he is that he's basically wearing the snake as underwear. That's gotta be one tough mofo to go around WEARING a snake as underwear. Regardless the team makes short work of this Schwarze-dwarf and continue on...

I like to think the dwarf cave was the prelude to the porn magizine in FF IV.

Well we continue on and end up in the fire cave. It's well....a cave....with fire....and rivers of lava.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0012-1.jpg

Funny enough though rivers of liquid hot magma do nothing to your HP, but walking through a waterfall of lava will.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/bahamut2000x/FF%20III/snap0013-1.jpg

[edit-ooh! I think I know what was wrong now. I had all my dragoons in the backrow xD No wonder they were missing so much! The game mechanics faq at gamefaqs indicates that when one is in the back row, your hit% is effectively halfed.]

[edit- that was easy :]]

c'mon guys, surely you are all still playing this?

Anyways, i want EoFF to be the top result for Zehapid muh kaine. I saw that and was like 'lol, dorga speaks german?'

Screenshots:
This is my emulator bug where the dragoons stayed invisible. I mean you can't see them, but that's the point 8)
Zehapid muh kaine!
I started trying to get screenshots of the summons to put on the front site. I stopped summoning chocobo because I was mad that it escaped me from battle when it finally succeeded. Also ifrit is hard to catch because he's so fast xD *patpats the cute little conjuror* it's too bad I haven't found any places that sell Rods; he's kinda bare handed atm, which is fine, because he has these big ol' summon beasts xD

So uh, this 'two pronged cave' is where, guys?

Bahamut2000X
06-15-2008, 01:11 PM
There's 2 places with a set up like that. I forget where one is, but I do believe it's on the same continent at Salonia. Of the 2 little prongs that come off the bottom of a continent, it's the less square one you want to go underwater for.

I've actually beat the game, so I'll probably get around to posting up some pics later today after work.

I think I'm at the grinding part of the game. I just finished the part where you have to be Mini and find the Dragon's Eye and I finished at Level 9. The Walkthrough I'm reading tells me I have to be at Level 12. . . :(

Eh, my screenshots haven't been interesting, so I'll put up the next boss fight I do, or something.

Edit
I have a question, I have two Nunchakus for my Monk, but he hasn't been getting in as many hits as my Fighter, so will he get in more hits if he is unarmed?

I dunno weather to be happy that I'm a winner, or sad that I'm such a dork I beat this game so fast. XD

Also here's my "The End" pic so I got some evidence of my triumph, I'll hold off on my final boss image since I don't want to ruin anything for those that haven't got that far yet. :)

Mine is unarmed and doing good, but mine is at level 38. I'm not sure what level he was at when I took his weapons away though. Try taking away his nunchakus for a fight and see how he does.

Just tried it and I did get more hits, but I did less damage than when I got the usual two hits with 3-Part Nunchaku and Tonfa. I may change his Class later on though, so I don't think I should worry about it anymore.

this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/file/563415/27853) could be your best bet if you're playing the nes version, otherwise this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/924897/46045) would be.

As far as I've played:
"You should wait to use jobs until you start getting equipment in the game that mean they're worth using".

The game HEAVILY influences this by making it impossible to buy any equipment for your jobs until a certain point of the game. This means you have to use the dumb classes you've had forever while you wait for the plot to advance.

Geomancers are pretty good with big groups using Terrain (just watch out for the failures!), Conjurors are also pretty good, if unpredictable. Vikings start off pretty strong, but they seem to get a little more useless as the game wears on, knights stay pretty relevant and also white mages. black mages not so much, monks can pretty much be discarded once you get the master/karateka, bards aren't too bad, but they're a lot more useful ifyou want to run away a lot. I like their battle animations :) hunters are pretty good at the beginning due to their white magic, but you hang them up after a while because their magic isn't sufficient and you stop getting bows. looking at the weapons list, I'd say they'd be worth bringing back once you find the yoichi bow, but I'm not actually looking at the weapons list, just imagining.

and that's about as far as I've played!

for salamander... make sure ur not wearing any fire armor... ice equipment is very good for you. have the theif and warrior attack with ur best weapons... if they dont do well.. try using antarctic winds if u got them. put the two wizards in the back row... have them casting ICE2/Blizzara w/ the red mage casting CUR2/Cura when needed.

as for kraken.. make sure u level a little bit more before going to him. same strategy as salamander except you wanna cast the lightning spells and zeus' wraths.

BONUS: if it wasnt already obvious... when u fight garuda... you want dragoons dragoons and more dragoons... with wind spears if u can afford them... Any other strategy questions... just msg me or ask the EoFF community.. try to stay away from gamefaqs or other walkthroughs

Tower Of Owen | Chapter 1

Well, as I entered the Tower of Owen, I was greeted with a warm welcome. Can't you feel that love lurching out at you from the sewage pipes?

So I proceeded further--but only because I have a death wish, mind you.

You know, I don't know what they were thinking when they wrote this. The dungeon is a tower with about 20 squares of movement and a straight path leading to a staircase on every floor.

Oops! Uhh . . . lost in transla混乱。:erm:

Flame Cave | Guzco
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a318/Sagensyg/Final%20Fantasy%203/FinalFantasyIII_009.png
I really have no idea why I'm helping a bunch of Dwarves, but killing you seems like it's the right thing to do.

Flame Cave | Chapter 1

After that minor inconvenience it seemed appropriate to venture into the Flame Cave. If you will notice, I am underleveled I have switched out the Red Mage for a Fighter. He was a Black Mage earlier, so here me out: BLACK MAGES SUCK.

Looks warm and toasty in there right? I went through the dungeon and had my arse handed to me by Salamandr, so I leveled up twice and then the PWNage came.

Bahamut2000X
07-04-2008, 05:13 AM
I'm assuming your playing the NES version? Either way you can re-equip in battle and shurikens are a thrown weapon so they only have a 1 shot use.

But if your playing the NES version you can change what's in your hands in the item menu and hitting left on the control pad to make it go over to the what's in your hands menu, which you just swap out with some new weapon.

Leeza

Just got my nifty shoes in the sewers. Really had no trouble with Kraken. He owned me once, then I got everyone a level went back in, and well Scholar with double Light Books, Ranger with Lightning Arrows, and Knight owned him fast.

Salamandr's fire breath twice in a row however...

arggggggggh, I should spending my time levelling instead of trying to find any possible way to kill DC but that's not as much fun.

I did find out that crystal shield means one of my ninjas only takes 1100 dmg per flarewave instead of about 1400! a good discovery

(bad discoveries: items either are ineffective on her or they do 1 dmg. ugggggggh)

That fight is easy if you wanna be cheap. 2 Ninja, 2 Sages and a butt load of shurikens. Should be won in like 3-4 rounds.

07-07-2008, 11:58 PM
Except you can't buy shurikens in the dark world 8) I have 2.

Bahamut2000X
07-08-2008, 03:37 AM
Well you can still just cure spam with the Sages and bludgeon the boss to death. If you went fully through Eureka you can outfit your Ninja with Full Moon + Masamune, and Raganarok + Excalibur which is still nice.

rubah
07-08-2008, 03:56 AM
Yes, except I die doing that.

cure 3x4 = ~500 hp a person
cure 4x4 = ~600 hp a person (don't have two cure4s)
ragnarok + full moon = 1800 a hit, 2600 hasted or so
excalibur + masemune = 1400 a hit, don't have time to haste him too
hp = just under 4k
flarewave = 1500dmg :( (anywhere from 800 with a shield to 1800 with no shield)

I really think levelling is the only thing for it xD

SwordFighter_Dago

A lot! Like, 2/3 of the bosses are after that xD

Drat, that means I have to hurry, and I generally don't like to rush in my games, but rather enjoy them. The thing is, I have tons of other stuff to do instead of playing FF3 all day, so I really can't tell if I'd make it or not.

Yeah, you still have a ways to go SwordFighter_Dago, but you can do it. There's still time. :cat:

Why, thank you!

I actually beat Kraken just now in one shot, after some serious leveling up. I'm a bit confused now, there are so many jobs and it's very hard to pick the right ones. Especially now that I have dragoons and dark knights etc. If someone would help me with this, I'd really appreciate it.

My party's current jobs are:
-Thief for Luneth
-Knight for Arc
-Scholar for Refia
-Red Mage for Ingus

If you just beat Kraken then I would suggest changing the Red Mage. Red Mages are kind of weak by around this point. Even if you keep him in about 2 dungeons Red Mages are near worthless with their lack of level 6 and 7 spells.

The Thief is a good choice with dual boomerangs and with a full thief/black set up. In the NES version with that set up I had Thief last me until the end of the game.

Scholar's begin to lose their usefulness around here now. They don't get better weapons until the end of the game, and have more mage stats then fighters, but need to be in the front to do their damage with books and lack spells to really be effective mages. I would change the scholar out for something stronger like a Bard or a Geomancer if you want to keep it more of a mage type job.

And Knight is always a good choice.

Also ignore Dark Knight completely. Their worthless until you get them a weapon, and your still a ways off from that. Till then their just naked monks with worst attack power.

Dragoon is a pretty decent job if you want more brute force. And the Viking is good if you want a solid tank, more so then the Knight.

I have a Warrior, Black Mage (he really kind of useless and I don't know why I'm still hanging on to him), Red Mage and a Viking.

The Warrior is always good and I always have him equiped with a Blood Sword. I really like my Red Mage. He has some decent enough white magic to cure everyone when needed and his fighting skills have been decent enough. Since I equipped him with the Excalibur and Break Blade he is awesome. The Viking is just a good tank...period. I'm happy with my group. I tried a few different jobs, but I'm sticking with these. The Black Mage is good for some higher black spells, but I'm not too impressed with black magic compared to good old hack and slash.

I liked me some mystic knight x2 caller white wizard action for a long time.

The mystic knights are pretty much sufficient for killing just about anything, so the two mages are on the whole, superfluous, but whitey had some nice offensive aero2 he pulled out (not to mention haste and cure4), and I just like summoners:)

(I switched to mystic knight x2 shaman warlock when I got those, but like leeza, the black magic just didn't impress me much. I liked Bio though)

Thanks Bahamut2000X, after just having beaten Goldor I'm already very powerful. I made Refia a Geomancer and Ingus a Dragoon. While Ingus is slowly catching up, Refia seems to have gotten 1337 skillz. Seriously, I didn't know geomancers would be this powerful on a high level. Especially know that I can by proper equipment for them at Duster. On my way to Saronia now, I have still a ways to go before completion.

Depends how much time you invest in playing it. I would think that you do have time. I'm not really sure when our definite cut-off date is. But I think there is still a good week to go. I'm not done yet either.

*finished finally*
I just needed to revise my strategy :] instead of trying to heal my warriors and let them beat away at DC, I just let them die and had my sages pound away with bahamut 8) Much easier.

PS: Is there going to be another competition of this nature? Like for FF4 when it's remake is released?

Yup. We're doing 1 FF every 2 months. So August will be FF IV month. Which is lucky for me since it's my favorite FF.

God I need to really finish posting up all my NES pics sometime.

Though doing good on the DS even if I have gotten sidetracked, just in the midst of finding the lute and waking up Unne.

EDIT: God where's the space button for the message feature, I sent you a poorly constructed message that had no spacing. XD

Just verifying here, but is this like by 11:59PM, July 13th PDT or like, 11:59PM July 13th in Honolulu? Or did I miss the cut off?

I've already got my ass beat by the final boss once (and I didn't save before the mirror room either time) so I could go try again or I could level for another two hours and then try again.

My issue is, Luneth spent way too long as a Red Mage because I thought the hat was sexy, and now he's pretty useless. I'm trying to level him as Ninja but I didn't realise how useless he was (as a Dragoon) until I reached the World of Dark, so he's only a level 15 Ninja. >.>

Get started as soon as you want, participate in as many challenges as you'd like BUT BE AWARE that the final date for completion of challenges is JULY 13, 2008.

Toward the end.

Anyway, I'm going for the boss fight now. <s>If you hear a scream, just know that EoFF was responsible for my death and/or insanity.</s>

ETA: I won! Crappy pictures in the attachments. Hopefully they don't suck too much. ^_^ Also, Luneth died. I would have been sad if he weren't my least favourite character.

Well, I beat the last boss, and then I saved over the file where I last saved, so I can't go back and finish with a real challenge completed. Still, my goal was to finish in the time frame. That being said, I do want to do my best to do all the sidequests.

Mostly that's just mognet stuff. My Friend Code is 232078593186 and I'm going to repost that in the right thread as well.

Final Fantasy IV begins August 1. No reason you can't finish III till then. You won't get anything for it (it doesn't seem like we who did finish it will get anything, but we supposedly are), but at least you can say "hey, I beat it."

Have I mentioned yet how horrendous the communication feature is in FF III yet?

A little late, but I finally finished. Died on my first two attempts at the Crystal Tower. The Black Mage was pretty useless so I switched to a Devout and then I had to go back and get all the spells, especially Curaja and Arise. Then it was a piece of cake. I'll post some ending pics soon.
