Alright, I'm officially back into Diablo II, and will stay this time.

I plan to make a Poisonmancer and a Blizzard Sorceress

My Sorceress uses Orb more often just out of convenience, but her main kill is Meteor. I think hers are at ~4.5 or ~4.8kish right now with very little +skills. Obviously better gear would make her more standout. I wasted 1 point in Warmth with her (base 2 instead of 1) because the original Meteorb guide I was following recommended like 3 points (instead of base)... no idea why, but that could be in Fireball instead T_T.

My Hammerdin is just trucking along. Until I get that Hoto though, I'm kinda stalled.

My Fury WW Druid just got to Nightmare but with some of the gear I've got I can imagine him being very good. This is the first time I've ever had the old 1.09 "Damage Reduction" trifecta - Shaftstop, Vampire Gaze, and String of Ears. I'm going to up the Shaftstop and put in a Pruby. It should have like 1500 Defense and 100 Life, yeah yeah.

Question: I have a Superior Scarab Husk, 508 defense. Obviously that's very good given the str requirement (95), in fact it's better than the best of plain Archon Plates. The problem is I can't run the socket formula on it because it's superior. Would it be worth spending a socket quest on this to give it 4, allowing for Chains of Honor (I wouldn't make but could trade it off) or to make a Stone for myself? Or if I'm going to do stone I should probably wait for something bigger and eth because it'd be an obvious Merc armor.

Is the Conviction on Infinity strong enough to break immunities?

For Lightning Sorcs, yes, it is strong enough to break every Lite-immune regular enemy in the game, with the exception of the Cow King.

Mmm, I'd have to do the math, but I'd say on average a lv 12 Conviction will break a good 70% of the immunities in the game. Some immunities go up to 150, and lv 12 Conviction will only do -17 to the immunity when it's trying to break it. They probably have the immunities at intervals of 5, so if you have anything with an immunity of more than 115, then I don't think it will break the immunity.

However, if you are wanting to use this for a lighting based character (i.e. your ZappyMulley), then I don't believe there is a lighting immunity on a none unique that is higher than 115, so it would be a very wise choice there.

Man, perusing the Rune Word list again... there are SOOOOO many equally great and viable runewords for many builds. It's crazy how many of them get ignored just for the standard BOTD, CoH, Enigma, Hoto, and various others.

But most of them require so many high runes which I'll just never have :(

Well, actually I spotted a pretty cheap one I want to use my 5os Cryptic Axe. I'd just need to get a Fal rune for "Obedience". I could put this on my Druid's mercenary - the Enchant would definitely help him & I take on Physical Immunes, and the other stats are just beastly to begin with. Guaranteed 370% ED? 40% CB? Those alone make it worth it.

Most likely ignorance is a result of the extended length of Season 3. By that point, people weren't looking for items that merely "sufficed," it was necessary to obtain weapons that were at the end of a build. Since BotD and Hoto were the "uber weapons," their existences as the only weapon for a class were solidified. Cookie cutter builds were the only items that one could trade for. People don't realize that they have to find the build that works for them as a player.

Of course, since I've suffered the poor syndrome for every season, I know how to make use of everything. Frankly, BotD is too costly for what it provides. But then again, Diablo II is all about self-sufficiency and riches.

I'm guity of usually starting with cookie-cutter builds (though not necessarily equipment setups - usually because I'm too poor), but only to get the goods necessary to finance and support the more interesting characters I do towards the end of any Diablo 2 addiction. I want to do 3 kinds of other Druids (other than the WW druid I usually do) I haven't done in a while. I've gotten an Elementalist (Hurricane/Tornado) all the way to high level but it wasn't that fun/interesting. I'm going to try a pure Summoner (with WearBear & Shockwave to back them up), a Earthshifter Druid (if I can get the weapon) who uses Armageddon while transformed, and either a Hunger or Fire Claws WearBear.

Also, my current Druid is gearing towards a high-end Maul as his end-game weapon but I think if I back off points into Str before it's too late (I already have like 170 or 180 base) I could turn him into a Ribcracker Druid who could challenge Ubers :D

edit: Grats on trying a Melee Sorc, sounds fun. I've never had the guts to make one.

I've just discovered the joy of low level runewords for when you don't have much to be working with. You're going to have to settle for Swords for now. Monarchs have about a 50some level requirement, and 156 Strength to carry. Those are the lowest non Paladin shields that can have four Sockets.

Heh. I guess I'll never be making a Spirit Monarch then. That STR requirement is too high for any sorceress (and I can't count on having sorc gear that provides +50 or more to strength) and there's no point in making a Monarch Spirit for a Paladin.

Also, I took a gamble and traded a Pul I found for 40 Pgems. I got about 10 Amethysts and a bunch of others - I used the others to re-roll a late Hell grand charm a bunch of times and got jack :( But so far I've made 2 decent crafts with the amethysts. I actually feel gipped - I got a +2 [i]defensive[i] Auras ammy with 10 FCR, 12 Resist All, +18 Dexterity, and plus life and mana as well. I also got another insane level requirement +20 STR (with other stats) ring.

I actually use a Spirit Monarch on my Sorceress from the previous season. With a 15 Torch and Anni, that covers 30 Str right there. Monarchs are also frequently used to max out Facets.

Hang onto it. If it has certain mods I may be able to use it.

EDIT: It would seem I have acquired the need to expand to a second primary account. Add Tyalieva. As a result of my second accountage (only?), I have found it desirable to want to entertain a host of other builds. First up will be a Poison/Corpse Explosion Necro. Items relevant to my interests are relevant, and if it is not bad, you should not feel bad.

I was just tombing. I was simply in one game, hadn't gone in and out of any or whatever. Just playing. Only game I've even been in for the past few hours. I got a connection interrupted (fair enough, sometimes that happens when a game I'm in gets really busy or lags) but then it kicked me off B.net entirely and now I can't even log back in. Not fair! Those were the days. It was nice to at least be able to outfit all your casters with SOJs since they were so common.

Crafted a caster ammy that has 85 lvl requirement and could probably go both ways in terms of what kinds of builds could use it (caster vs physical)

8% fcr
+22 strength
+15 resistance to all
4% mana stolen per hit

I forget the rest, it's a mix of mana, mana regen, and some other useless stat (probably attack rating).

Between this ammy and a couple rings I have, I could totally outfit a sorc w/ low base strength with a Spirit monarch :choc2:

I just started to play D2 again and first time i logged on, i noticed something that has been bothering me for years, yes im talking about the in-game goldspam. Since it cannot or wanted be fixed by Blizzard, i can show you how normal players can beat spammers in their own game. I have also posted this in AoC forums and some players already started doing that. I hope we gonna see some results soon, we just need more people who are willing to use few minutes on this matter. So here are the steps:

1) Take a note of spammers website name, don't visit it.

2) Change the link into an IP address. In Windows you can do this with command prompt:

start button -> run -> write: cmd
In command prompt type: nslookup stupidgoldsellingwebsite.com <- The website you saw in-game. (without http:// and www. parts)
press enter to get an IP address that looks something like this:


C:\>nslookup stupidgoldsellingwebsite.com
Server: xxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx <- ignore all these
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <- ignore all these

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: stupidgoldsellingwebsite.com <- address you looked for
Address: xxx.xx.xx.xxx <- here is what you need to look for, an IP address


3) Copy the IP address from the command prompt and go to the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) - Home Page (http://www.arin.net) , this is also pretty nice site, it shows the map about the IP address location What Is My IP Address? - Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more... (http://www.whatismyipaddress.com) so if you live near, you can pay a visit (just kidding, you dont want to do that)

4) Insert that IP address into a search field and hit the search button, after you get the results, look for the e-mail address that starts with abuse@... or something similar address to report network abuse.

5) Send them a short e-mail about the spammer website and what they are doing. Tell about the problem in-game, how its against game Terms Of Use (ToU) and dont spam them, one e-mail is enough per player.

Well thats about it, this game or any other mmo game have pretty huge player database so if even every 100th player will send this e-mail, it will greatly harm goldselling websites if ISP's that hosting those websites receive a huge amount of complainings about them they will surely investigate whats going on. Trust me, they dont want to see those complains, its more work for them.

Edit: Another nice thing is when you see google ads offering gold/powerlevel services on some useful website, you can report them also by clicking Ads By Google text at the bottom of ad, scroll at the bottom of page and click Send Google your thoughts on the site or the ads you just saw. This will take you on a short webform which you can fill out in about 15seconds.

I just recently picked up the game again to play on U.S. West with a couple of my friends. Last time I played the game, I was a barbarian halfway through nightmare before making an assassin and taking it to Act 5 Nightmare before losing interest and putting the game down. This time I want to make a Hammerdin, at the advice of one of my friends. Only problem is, I don't have any experience with paladins but I think it might be kinda fun to try out. My Meteorb Sorc and Paladin both have Normal and Hell Andy bugged but not Nightmare, while my Lightning Sorc has Normal and Nightmare Andy bugged but not Hell. Argh. I'd like to just have one single Sorceress, with dedicated MF gear, tanking Merc (for act bosses), and all Andariel's bugged. I fail miserably.

Back to that Hell rush... I got to A5 and then did some Chaos runs, went from like lvl 49 to lvl 60 in 2 runs lol. So now I have to find somebody for Hell Ancients.

My Lightning Sorc from last season never bugged her, and she seemed to be fine. Of course, I refused to MF in anything but Baal runs after Infinity, so. I also had about 380% MF and awesome items up the wazoo.

I wouldn't be so upset about lacking Nightmare Andy on my other chars, because face it, anybody would rather do Nightmare Mephisto or Diablo, BUT, quest Nightmare Andy has the highest chance to drop Stone of Jordan in the game. And SOJs aren't exactly in big supply in this ladder season, yet at least 3 of my characters need them... and they're always great trade value of course.

One message popped up before, but the server wasn't hot. Mine was the second SoJ. Since it was a random MF game, I couldn't remember the name of the game, and SRL was also on at the time, but he left his game, so we couldn't check the message log for information. The password was f, though. At least I got the 3k gold for it.

I just think it's bogus that Uber Diablo still has to spawn because of SOJ sales. Like, why not sales of high runes or at least something that's mildly plentiful?

The whole reason for using SOJs back when it switched to 1.10 was because there were countless duped SOJs all over battle.net. Many accounts had stashes just chock full of them. They were the currency and at one point were so duped and dirt cheap it would take like 8 SOJs to get something decent (we're talking mid-level uniques here). So it made sense that Blizzard was giving incentive for people to "destroy" those SOJs in order to clear the dupes off the realms and get them back to normalized levels. So for a while on non-ladder SOJs were plentiful and each time a selling message came around, you could bet Uber Diablo would spawn.

But nowadays, say on a Ladder where everything is fresh... SOJs are so damn rare, nobody can so easily give them up. They're almost as rare as the Annihilus charms themselves, and even if you sell yours there's no guaruntee it'll lead you to an Anni.

They should come up with a new way for Anni-dropping Uber D to spawn.

The problem with the whole system is that it encourages people to continue duping SoJs in order to summon DClone. Though it did clean up some SoJs, it only provides a stronger incentive to make more of them.

Yeah, as Dragon said, SoJ sales on NL also affect Ladder, since they both use the same server IP addresses in determining which server DClone spawns on, and in such a case where 100 SoJs are sold at the start of the counter, DClone will spawn on all games using that server.

I've been been building a Smiter, which is a lot of fun, considering I've never played a Paladin before. I also did half a dozen Hell Countess runs yesterday for runes. She never dropped above an Ort, but she did give me another Tal's Ammy and an Ali Baba, so it wasn't a total waste.

Once I'm done recording my items, I'll be sending an Excel Spreadsheet with my items to Mulleybear. I'll be focusing more on my DotAness from now on. I have found that the only time I had real fun besides getting drops, was the first week of Ladder. Me, SRL, and Mulley were just roaming around, getting as far as we could. But now that we're in Hell, all we do is MF. Not fun; it's fun on my Lite Sorc from NL, but not this season.

I created a Dragoon Barbarian the other day for a novelty build. I don't know how strong he'll be later in the game. Due to the agility requirements of spears, I'll have to figure out what type of charms I'll need to hold in addition to my resistances to even stay alive. I have a feeling that life steal is going to be crucial. I might need to upgrade my Bloodthief so I can keep it's 11% life steal for now and maybe socket it so I can put in some more life steal.

Cheap, efficient, and deadly; an Honor (Amn + El + Ith + Tir + Sol) in a Stygian Pike or Ghost Spear; the next cheapest would be Passion, and after that, the only thing I can think of next that goes into a Spear in the first place would be an EBotD. The Stygian is probably easier to manage, due to having the traditional "more Str than Dex" requirement. Once you get to level 81, I can offer you my Arioc's Needle I was going to save for my Artsin's mercenary (155/120). You could also try crafting Safety Spears (Magic Spear, PEmerald, Jewel, Sol Rune) and hope for a sick, 300% ED weapon, IAS, +Max damage based on cLvl, and +AR based on cLvl. No guaranteed 60% from Blood or Hit Power for you.

I also have an Arreat's for you, a spare Shaftstop, and other goodies, which I'm sure you've got your eyes on by now. Either way, you're either going to have to pump Str and Dex for large damage bonuses, or Vita for the life you will desperately need. As far as your Skill build goes, it should be obvious: Leap Attack, Leap, BO, Shout, and Mastery. With no block, you're going to actually need to be able to survive hits.

The Skullder's has been nice, and decided to try out a Hammerdin as well so most of your goods came in handy at one point or another.

In other news, I upgraded a near perfect Skin of the Vipermagi to an elite so now I have an 880 def, +1 skills, +30% fcr, mag dam red by 13% and 32% all res armor that's quite lovely on my hammerdin or lit sorc. :love:

I like making themed builds that make the game more interesting.

Melee Necromancer, Axe-wielding Sorceress, Dragoon-like Paladin, Sword-wielding Amazon to get the Battlemaiden theme, and the most annoying character of all time, the Totem Barbarian with ridiculously low calls.

I can't tell you how many times I was hostiled when using this character.

Huh, that was a first for me. I was doing a Baal run and he was frozen when I killed him, so he shattered like other enemies when they are frozen. No dying and puking animation. Then, after about five seconds the animation where the souls are released fired off.

Tyrael has decided to open Destruction's End OFF the pathway - a place I cannot possibly reach. Not really a bad thing, since you can still beat the game without going through it, but odd nonetheless.

I've also seen Baal teleport near the upper left edge of the pathway (towards the very center of the Worldstone Chamber), die, but then had his body shift slightly, so that he died in midair.

I've also seen Mephisto just outright fucking disappear rather than go through his animation.

Or you can get a BaalBot, make a Hammerdin, and have one of the preset speeches to ask people not to Summon (especially Necromancers), use Meteor, Traps, Frozen Orb, Amazons, Torches, any fire spell, Blizzard, Necromancer Bone skills, use Sorceresses, Hurricane, Armageddon (not that anyone uses this one anyways), or Poison Nova.

Fox Paladins only, Final Destination, no items.

Barbs are useless because they are replaced for their worth by CtA and Enigma, thus removing the need for an HP buff or the possibility that you'll be getting hit. By anything.

Yeah, that tends to be how things work. It'll be a matter of time before they turn off Warden again, though. I believe that they were sweeping for Baalbots in this instance of bans after D2Loader.

You would think that after all of this time, my keys would get banned, too. Fortunately for me, however, I am permanently barred from playing Diablo II online; I had to uninstall, and then reinstall just so I could backpatch to 1.10, for which I could find no other cure to get from 1.12 to 1.10. Now, I can play Dark Alliance, Median, and not have to worry about half of the programming flaws that were introduced into Diablo II with 1.11 (from a technical perspective).

What have you been doing in XL, Nom? I myself have made a 120 Javazon, who can get through most of the little uberquests (Butcher, Creature of Flame, K3KBA, Island of the Sunless Sea, Infernal Machine, and Death Projector). My next builds, I was looking for a Summoner Barbarian and Crucify Assassin, but they are still at level 33. I might have to resort to a SorcDruid again for the rest of the uberquests; it was the only way I could do most of the uberquests last time.

I just started, but I've been playing it as a Necromancer that hops around everywhere using Angel of Death. It's a very safe build, but not very fast about killing monsters - have to do it one at a time basically. Going through on /players8, I've yet to die. On my way to Andarial at the moment.

You probably extracted a couple of files from the PlugY incorrectly. Also, Atma and Median don't get along well together. Remember not to accidentally load M'08 characters or any XL characters from before the .21 patch; those too were wiped. Also remember that all of the .dll files are the correct ones for the patch; you might possibly be using the 1.12 modified d2gfx.dll to run multiple instances when you should be using 1.10's modified.

If you already have 1.12 and did all of the necessary things to make it run without the CD, then just save a copy of the original d2_patch file into a folder somewhere, and copy/paste the Median XL's version. Otherwise, if you need anything from the CD, such as running the game from any version pre-1.12, or you didn't copy the right files over after you upgraded to 1.12, you might be done for. Alternatively, you can register your CD Key online with Blizzard, and they'll give you the patch; then again, you'll still run into the problem of needing CD files (unless Blizzard also offers the requisite files).

Apparently, Druids and Charm got a massive buff recently. Additionally, PlugY is dead with 1.12. Be forewarned.

You know you can check which version you have just by going into the game, right? Ohh, yeah, CD.

Chances are you have either 1.11b, because we've played with you on Battle.net during these seasons. 1.11b was the longest one, at about 3 years, pre-dating our original attempt at this by quite some time. If you've played at all after June on Battle.net, you've got 1.12. They have yet to change from 1.12. There's no way in hell you have 1.10 unless you have been consciously thinking about mod and advantages of staying at 1.10.

Try running Diablo II anyways. If you bothered to do the things to allow you to play without the CD, you should be okay no matter what. Just run the damn thing. You can't even remember what patch you're on; am I supposed to expect you to remember which files you copied from a CD because a bright shiny thing on a screen told you to?

You can also check Bnetlog.txt or bnupdate.txt for the latest patch you received. You can even check patch.txt and look at which stuff is at the top.

I believe that they recently banned all CD-Keys that appeared to have been used from the same computer, under the argument that any multiple CD-Key instance for any single IP was being used illegitimately.

It's a stupid argument, because anyone who even looked at Warden at Blizzard would be able to tell you the differences among anything Red Vex, d2loader, and different installs.

At this point, I'm just waiting on DIII, which apparently, is slated for a release before SCII, from reports that I have heard. More people at Blizzard are working on DIII than SCII. Not a smart move, because I know for sure that even with my Blizzard-rage, I am more than happy with anything that they'll come up with for SC. DIII has to be good from the start; SC has a larger room for error thanks to the near-guaranteed expansion packs.

I was using RedVex (for Slut and Condom), but it was not this that had me banned. It was the blasted edit of gfx.dll that I foolishly and painfully forgot to update when the useless patch suddenly came out.

Warden found me and obliterated my chances of enjoying my slavery any more.

So I decided to start dumping the low-level sets and uniques I find in "free" games. I was in one and people kept asking to trade to give them free when I said I would drop stuff when I felt like it. Eventually I was fed up with it and hostiled them all, and continued to hand out free stuff. After a couple of minutes, once I was out of stuff, I ran outside and everyone followed me, thinking I would drop more stuff. I killed them all and collected the ears. Then I offered the ears as free stuff but no one else seemed amused.
